      In that particular case L might mean anything but most likely it means locking since truck diff have a locking mechanism . It works with gyroscopic force and locks once a wheel starts spinning. Unlike a LSD that you might find in the rear end of a m3, they don't use clutches, rather weights and springs. They're either locked or open whereas a clutch type limited slip will limit slip more and more depending on load. I'm 99% sure that ford used the locking type since it had it as an option on f250s and 350s.

The 03' I bought with 91k on it and now she has 170k just maintenance. I just finished the timing set last night. Lol. I paid $675 for the 03' from the Miami Police Auction Jan 16'. Best $675 I have ever spent. 80k miles and I beat her pretty badly. The cops didn't do to her what I've done. She was my first. You know you always remember your first Lol. It's time to restore her. This is why I can't enjoy shows like this, so first they check all the rear ends to see that they don't have a 'locker'(not that any Crown Vic even ever came from the factory with a 'locker',only limited slip)by turning one side and seeing if the other side turns with it.
    So then they have the idea of checking data tags,and after finding one with the right numbers just tossed in the truck without seeing if the 'turn the axle thing' is any different,check the fluid inside.(if there is any),make sure that neither of the axles are bent or what the gear ratio is!....nope just trust a part that only god knows how many miles are on it and throw it in the car.

    I'm really surprised that you're going with a dramatically lower spring rate than stock on the rear: I would have expected you to want a higher spring rate, and cutting (as you did on the rear) would have both lowered and increased spring rate. Not saying it's perfect but it's in the rules.
    Pet peeve: a Panther doesn't have struts, it has shocks. Struts are fixed at the bottom (generally with a pair of cam bolts to adjust camber), shocks are pinned at the bottom.

      The have a coil over style strut. It’s just not a locating Mcphearson strut like you are referring too like on a Fox

    • @totensiebush
      @totensiebush Před 2 lety

      @@alanhill5513 They have a coilover shock, not a strut.
      You can get a shock or strut in coilover or otherwise. Obviously there are lots of non-coilover shocks, there are also coilover shocks (such as the front here, or rear suspension on a drag car is typically that way). Most struts are coilover, but there are vehicles with torsion bars and struts - Porsche did that for a long time.

    Why would you want to put a locker in a road race car? You want a differential that works linearly, not on or off. A limited slip rear dif would be a better choice for the road track. Lockers should stay on trucks and drag cars.

    • @jasoncarpenter4116

      What they put in was actually a limited slip, these cars never came with one that was fully locked.
