This just made me realize that the part where sonic does his sonic adventure pose in the dance scene was probably boarded and put in there by a fan and that makes me super happy
I'm an animator in training and I think it's awesome that your worked on the sonic the hedgehog 2 movie. How you best captured the characters and where they go from there.
I usually do this kinda thumb boards to plan story animation, but I haven't started a full blown animation yet. I just mostly draw for fun for video game fanart.
Loved the movie, I just wish that Sonic and Tails showed any expression in ear movement, preferably cat-like one, because you can show a lot in that. When a character looks angry and their ears are in a neutral position, it feels like they're just glued here for no reason, and making them lay back would feel a lot more natural. When Sonic catches the feather and it didsapears, he could have his ears a little down/ to the sides to show more sadness
i saw sonic 2 in theaters on opening weekend and was totally hyped the whole way through this video is a really cool insight into part of that production process now i'm figuring out storyboarding for some music video stuff i may be working on, so that video is helpful for that as well
this literally almost brings me to tears because its so inspirational that you get to work on such an elevated project because of your hardwork and dedication to your craft
Once again, congrats on the Sonic 2 gig! Really awesome work on those boards, and I appreciate all the advice you gave in this video! Also I love that derpy Tails at 9:49 XD Seeing your boards really inspires me to be more loose with my own. Whenever I try to do story art for my own portfolio or whatever I always worry that they don't look "clean" enough... which YES, I KNOW, isn't supposed to be the point! But when I see other storyboards artists and how polished their work is, I feel pressured to make my own stuff look clean as well... like I have this nagging fear in the back of my brain that if I don't make my boards look good, I won't make the cut for any potential story jobs. I really should stop worrying about that and let loose.
This was awesome Toniko! I'm glad to hear and see you're moving up in the industry and it's well deserved! Also the video is so helpful as I'm currently directing and soon storyboarding my first serious animation short series! (Currently thumbnailing) Wishing you much more success to come!! ❤🔥
I'm no professional, but I'm starting a storyboard project for a comic I want to make one day, and your break-down of the whole process really helps! Hopefully I'll be able to work more quickly and consistently now!
Dude this is one of my favorite movies now, I went to see it at theater twice because I loved it so much! I just stumbled upon your channel from this video, this is way past cool! 😁
okay but drop the full Super Bass animation, king (congrats again on this, I've admired your work for ages and I love Sonic, so this is a great combo!!!)
As someone who hopes to work in animation or storyboarding this was soooo cool to see your process!! (Plus it was cool to see “behind the scenes” in Sonic 2 which is like my new fav movie!!) 😁
This was very helpful!! I especially liked when you brought up your process in storyboarding (what you were told in school vs what you actually learned in the field). I am trying to get in the industry so hearing things like this helps me put things in perspective!
12:28 I was working on a animation related to Deltarune and so I was lisning to the soundtrack and I noticed it deffintly helped me be more focused on the animation
I really enjoyed this video! I loved hearing from someone who had a part in the film and how the process went for a storyboard artist such as yourself :)
just wanted to drop by and thank you for your channel! I hope to be an animator someday, and your videos really help calm some of my anxieties down while getting me really excited for what my future could be!
Congrats. Saw this sequel with my family and enjoyed it much more than I expected. And….got you kinda got to work with the great Jim Carrey, right? Lol
What, you animated my favorite scene in the movie? When Sonic hears from hologram Long claw about the master emerald and Wade joking around. Thank you I love this movie so much I’m glad you were part of the team
woah! i never knew you work for the movie, and my jaw almost drop reading the title. also does this mean verbalase is canon on the sonic movie lore since its get you to the mood to made the sequence😳?
yeh it's kind of crazy how a loose drawing that's maybe only 50% on model looks way more appealing than a refined drawing that's like 80% on model but not quite there. also lmao what was that beatboxing super sonic video?
as a Animatior myself grew up love watch paint animations and pivot animations since when I was in 2nd grade in the early 2000s back in the day coming home from school funny animations made by windows paint and watching Xiao Xiao stick fight animation from pivot. Before I got into animating and I used to be in art classes all the time. This animation artwork is really good my friend
Fireblade cause it's obvious that paramount cares, got to respect the people that you work for,if you show something that they don't want you to show to the audience they could see you as untrustworthy and possibly get you fired, always be respectful to the people you work with
I'm currently in a trade school for video editing, And while I'd still love to do that specifically I've always had the idea of choreographer or storyboarder, In my mind as well. Do you think it's even possible, If I have enough of a portfolio of storyboarding and a diploma for video editing, you can make it into a studio like this. Or do these studios entirely hire you based off your school experience? I feel like especially since I'm learning editing, Storyboarding at least for me has an entirely different perspective as I know how a editor could think and pace a scene and speak there language.
I’m not an animator- but have worked on films. The worst thing is spending 14-17 hour days on a scene that doesn’t make the cut.
Do you still get paid for those unwanted cuts?
@@jovision5001 well I mean you put your time and maybe resources into it so you should be technically paid
Yea
damn. that's rough
Oof yea
i cant imagine how good it feels to work on a franchise dear to your childhood, I hope get there someday !
I also hope that! We can do it :]
This just made me realize that the part where sonic does his sonic adventure pose in the dance scene was probably boarded and put in there by a fan and that makes me super happy
And I still Don't know why people hated it so much
12:33 I just love that tiny dance to super bass XD. Someone needs to make an extended version of that.
i need to know if thats a full remix on youtube lol
@@Rosesofblood yes actually, just search for Super Bass x Battery Zone. You'll find it :)
That was very interesting! It must have been a long but exciting journey working with the team.
first
Indeed
Why won't this have more replies
@Sonic The Hedgehog Plays Again huh
I'm an animator in training and I think it's awesome that your worked on the sonic the hedgehog 2 movie. How you best captured the characters and where they go from there.
Congratulations! The movie was great! The Sonic franchise is dear to me too. It's great to hear you were able to work on this movie! :)
That’s so cool that you got to work on the movie! Great work!! 😁
You wanna tell me that you worked on Sonic 2? No wonder the movie's been such a blast!

I would honestly love to see the entire movie in this art style. It would work perfectly for the movie.

So how did you get picked. Did you apply for the job or did they come to you?
Really informative video!
Did the Sonic the hedgehog movie 2 use Blender or Maya for the VFX
Awesome
thanks this so helpful!❤️❤️❤️
Can you post storyboard of Knuckles Backstory
that's up to paramount not him,he still has to respect the people he's worked with, paramount might not want him to talk about the backstory
Nice man
This does take a lot of time indeed
Cool!
I get that you probably can't give numbers, but did it pay well? Or was it "You can put it on your resume - think of the exposure" type money?
Wow I didn't know that
Did you go fast?
OH YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!
Would you have Permission later maybe why you can’t show us maybe he will be in future movies
I HAVE ALWAYS WANTED TO WORK IN THE SONIC MOVIES! TELL ME HOW IT WAS.
Can you please show how you make an animatic from your photoshop boards? Do you make the animatic with photoshop?
Nice! Well done, excellent lesson and demonstration. You put a lot of work into this, Bravo! Do you ever sleep?
How did apply for this role, or were you recommended?
Nice
why showing the censored script instead of not showing it at all?
Wow
Why can't you show story details that were not in the film? I don't think Paramount would care.
because paramount cares. they make you sign an nda.
