no, if one does not compromise their being, their integrity and do good then they have already come in "first". by doing this I can look myself in the mirror.
Peace be with you my friend
It depends, people karma is balance, rise and fall, and rise again,
No karma means enlightenment
In the long term goodness will always win. I believe that. Karma has a time lag in certain cases between action and result. There is a verse in the Dhammapada that compares bad people experiencing good to milk. It takes time to sour but it eventually does if they keep on with that. Likewise the good can take time to flower but it does. So keep cultivating those positive habits.

A good metaphor for being a person who is not living a good and honest life is when somebody appears to be wealthy but they are actually just deeply in debt. Being dishonest and treating others poorly will create emotional debt that we carry around. It all comes around and catches up with you eventually.
Benefits: No regrets. It's not really about anything but no regrets. I cared for my mother in law, even after her son filed for divorce. She needed someone. I've done lots of things like that. My big reward has been no regrets.

Nick. thank you. 4 years into a lot of healing. most difficult thing I've done, but no going back now. your vids are so helpful, just at the right time. thanks Nick.
Awww I’m glad they are helpful. Thank you! Keep up your great work 😊
A very much needed answer for why bad people are enjoying life while good people are suffering. Thank you Nick. 🙏
9:38 for me I’ve noticed that the fruit of our merits mostly starts with the mind..the feelings one gets from doing good and the thought patterns that are reinforced from good things, is the start of the fruiting ,for me personally…it doesn’t have to be an outward “reward”…just having a happier, more peaceful mind can be a reward.
It has been almost a year since you first helped me! I have been going to the Pittsburgh Buddhist center for 6 months now and my life and karma is forever changed. I found my family! I always thank you for introducing me to Dhamma and Buddha ❤❤❤ which lead me to my Sangha
I love that answer! That’s so wonderful. Thank you for sharing 😊
And I’m so happy you found the center in Pittsburgh. Please tell them all hello and they are welcome to join our upcoming candlelight event in Lancaster on April 13th.

You are a blessing to the World🌏❤
Thank you so much my friend 😊
Good insight. The more I have seen myself compare the less I can be grateful for what I have and the good things I have going on.
That’s wonderful 😊
Thank you, for your kind and pure service to the world.
Thank you so much 😊
Thank you dear Nick ❤ Yesterday I was questioning myself why do I have to continue on being a good person. And now I have an answer - because I need people to trust me, to be good friends and defend me 🎉
Aww I love it! Thank you so much for sharing. That’s beautiful 😍
My experience has shown me that those who were so popular in high school don't turn out well later in life: drugs, premature death, crime, incurable disease, and host of other issues.
I saw one female classmate who I hadn't seen in thirty years. She was a very attractive young lady in highschool. While I kept my composure, inside, this was my first reaction when saw her was:😳 then😔.
People change. You are only as "good" as your last actions. The question is more "am I putting others first before taking care of myself and my own life?". There is a degree of when that has bad consequences on your wellbeing and its important to learn when its the right time to be EGOISTIC. If you want wellbeing. And egoistic is not necessarily a negative thing like its often portrayed, usually by those people who are feeding of others.
Agree. Sometimes protecting oneself is very important. When oneself is safe then it makes sense to be good to others.
I have been battling with this idea too, venerable Nick. Thanks for sharing your insight. ❤
You’re welcome! Wow I’m glad it resonates with you 😊
Thank you venerable Nick for sharing your wisdom I’ve been taught about blessings and cursing and to make a choice which one I choose to serve
You are so welcome 🤗
I needed to hear this today. I am so frustrated with our legislators and former president here in the United States. They do so many things to hurt people and they seem to have it all while I struggle but I help people. It has.
Good guys don't usually even concern themselves with the race. Even when finding themselves racing, one endowed with Virtue, might not notice coming in 2nd or beyond. Too contented to compare.

I'm always after nuggets of wisdom and I thank you for providing this information. I am very nice but most times people try to take advantage of my kindness and they also misinterpret it as weakness. I teach my 10 year old that the two most valuable things to me in the world are wisdom and integrity.
Yessss I love that. That’s such an important lesson to teach our children 😊
I see myself in similar light as you. But I also see the bad karma they encounter bc they took goodness for weakness. For example, I witnessed another person mistreat them the same way they treated me.
Thank you! It is a wonderful teaching again. I experienced this especially with just speaking the tuth. It cleared up my life completely. And it is like you said, one gains trust and is getting more and more stable and light.
You’re welcome! I’m glad it resonates with you 😊

Usually good guys lose ground but no they don't finish last , not at all. I think in the end they win the race. I see it from my own journey, Im now 51 and used to be so behind from all others and now Im moving more and more forwards thanks to the good deeds I have done and have been doing.
If we believe in karma, it is okay that my bad karmas ripen now so that I can accept them & let it go - knowing that in the future our good karmas would ripen for us to enjoy after we have exhausted all our bad karmas. Not sure if this is right but it is what I tell myself so that I don’t complain too much but learn to accept what life throws at me. Thanks for your wisdom. 🙏🏼 One day, when I have gained enough merits, maybe I would be able to comprehend fully what you are sharing. 🫶🏻
You hit it on the head my friend 😊
You're the kind of rare gem I want to find and befriend, sad that we are often too few to think like that.
@@d.r.656 let’s practice together! 🙏🏻🫶🏻
One exception: Toxic people
If you were dealing with a narcissist or somebody with a toxic personality -
Walk AWAY
You can't create enough good karma or love to change somebody like that.
I grew up believing that I should forgive endlessly and sacrifice myself for others and I am a recovering people-pleaser and codependent.
Robina Courtin (Buddhist nun), said:
"Having compassion doesn't mean being foolish."
Keep being a good person but don't be afraid to walk away and take care of yourself if you are being abused in any capacity!
(Emotionally, verbally, physically, etc)
When will I see the fruits? Well it may happen so that one may never see certain fruits, 'cause our efforts in doing wholesome deeds are just translating into the neutralization of bad karma we may have accumulated in the past, so our wholesome deeds might serve us to avoid bad things instead of gaining good things, according to my understanding. But that is excellent, too, for if nothing else, we are equilibrating our past bad karma with wholesome deeds so that we are stopping a fruit from ripening with bitter taste. By this it is meant that good deeds may yield good results, or instead, they may also stop bad results from materializing, which is also good in the end.
Yesssss! Definitely spot on my friend 😊

Verdad. Verdadera.

Good evening Ven. And sadhu sadhu sadhu for your great teaching the budha's dhamma. 🌹🙏🌹🙏🌹🙏🌹

“they have a good life”, Mmm I wonder what are the parts that are good or great? A person may have a lot of money but are they happy? Can’t take money with you when you die. In my life I know there are friends and acquaintances. True friends stand by you. Acquaintances come and go. Nick speaks so true. I am 71 and I have been living long enough to see karma happen. I have a clear and restful mind, I am in good health and I have a few GOOD friends. I am content in my life. It took some years to cultivate but it’s all so worth it. Thank you Nick.
You are greatly appreciated 🙏🏾🙏🏾

Thank you Nick. When you say do good deeds with good intentions…. Is it not good intentions if we do good deeds to be rewarded with good Karma? For example if we are doing good deeds like caring for sick or elderly and we do enjoy it and it makes us feel ‘good’ inside, but to be honest if there is even a small intention there to receive good fruits???? How do we differentiate if we are wholly doing it for the right/wrong reason? Thank you Nick. Love yr wisdom and advice
Thank You Nick for sharing your wisdom

3/4/24 Wednesday
Wow! I have binge watch this video since morning and there are so many insights.
Sorry for being so lengthy. 😅
One - it comforted me. The lesson validate what I am mindfully doing, deeds and thoughts, is worthwhile.
Two - it clarified my doubt on whether I will be rewarded for being, hardworking at work, treating people kindly and loving myself. It is not wrong to have boundary to people and it is wise to be practise good.
Three - it open my eyes that a Sangha is also human. They have feelings and desire that will arise. Hence it is normal to have desire and feelings. The key is not to cling and as much as possible to have right view in every situation when unwholesome thoughts arise.
Four - Patience and be a trust worthy person. How many times I have for selfish means discounted people. Trusting people is hard. GOOD people is hard to find. Be GOOD Myself and good people will come. Be wise to discern who are good 👍
A lot to learn and practise 🙂↕️
The biggest take away from this video for me is to continue to do Good. Be a good kind person.
Kindness makes the world go round.
Transference of merit to Teacher. Teacher be strong in the path, surrounded and supported by genuine good people.
May Teacher be strong and heathy.
Sadhu Sadhu Sadhu ❤
Such a powerful notion through its way of perception & perspective one has to go by to understand, further more to share knowledge of. Nick, blessing received & your way of compacting natural defilements of what one might become caught up with was out standing. Yet the idea that Peace of mind is Easily over looked was something I was fascinated by, because in truth, that is where growth can than boom from, growth in goodness, growth for gratitude, and seemingly growth in one’s very trust.
Thank you always💌
Thanks Nick.
You’re welcome ☺️
Thank you, Venerable Nick. So true, Karma, I think of it as the Universe putting things right. It's also a wonderful gift and I believe we should all appreciate it. You're videos put it across in an easy to understand way, which is great for a novice such as me! Thank you. 🙏

I think one might have issues with his own expectations if by looking at his life feels that he would deserve more. Let it go and learn to appreciate what you have, what you can give and recognize what is being offered to you (and learn to accept too).

I trusted her that she really wants to go on a date with me. She deceived me, said yes and now ghosting me. Its hurts a lot.

Ven Nick,
I want to feel grateful that I am a human. But I worry that with reincarnation, the fact that I was made a sensitive person, with deep-processing, I find it difficult to understand what I need to learn in this lifetime since so many thoughts enter my head
While I do believe that our past lives affect the present one (usually called wyrd in my own culture but a very similar concept to karma as I understand it), our present society (especially the hyperindividualist capitalist US society) definitely rewards people for being as greedy and selfish as possible. Whether it's bosses paying workers as little as possible, landlords jacking up the rent without ever fixing anything, or just the "bootstraps" ideology, society encourages people to put greed, money, power, social status, superficial beauty, etc above all else. This is the other part of why the richest people are often immoral or dishonorable.
It is of course important to root out these social ills within our own minds and spirits, which I believe you are an expert teacher at Ven. Nick, but I think it is equally important that we collectively work to build a society that places caring for each other and the environment as its highest values.
I feel like pure pressure has a lot to do with it At least from my personal experience I made a lot of mistakes And I admit i still have a lot of growing to do but i really trying to change for the better
😊😊 keep it up my friend
Hi Nick, I am wondering if it would be possible for you to share some wisdom in a video about injustice. Right now I am struggling to get to grips with the humanitarian crisis and suffering within Gaza, and how the politics surrounding it (in the west) are enabling it to continue and even get worse. I find it very hard to reconcile and accept these injustices which affects my state of mind a lot. If you could share any light on this, it would be much appreciated, thank you ❤
I try seriously not to be part of warfare, violence and killing. Not directly and not indirectly. Not in thoughts, in words and deeds. I work on cultivating a peaceful mind and look for help and company.
Hi Nick, would love if you could start a Spotify channel… these are valuable podcasts material
Thank you for the suggestion my friend 😊
I think karma is one of the more difficult aspects of Buddhism to understand. Perhaps I’m misunderstanding you, forgive me, but your definition seems to be the like the lay person’s idea of do good in this life and you’ll reincarnate in a better form next time. This idea always jars with me, for example when I think of babies being born with severe health problems or born into abject poverty. I can’t accept it’s because of misdeeds in their previous life. Instead I prefer to think we reincarnate all the time and our karma is like the baggage (some good, some bad) we bring to each situation.
Overall I try to keep it simple with just this lifetime. Multiple lifetimes can get confusing 🫤
"I'm the owner of my actions, heir to my actions, born of my actions, related through my actions, and have my actions as my arbitrator. Whatever I do, for good or for evil, to that will I fall heir"
That's why we should do the best in our practice to be free from the wheel of life and karma's chains as soon as possible, because karma is not something beautiful, it's not something that should be sugarcoat or seen as divine justice.
❤
How long term are we talking to see the benefits? As in: how many lives ? ;) Totally agree with you though! Thank you!
I think it depends…

INTENTION, INTENTION.
Its not so much doing something, but WHY do u do it. To help, or to harm, or for a "reward", or for "show", etc. Intention is everything.

A good person won’t take advantage of others, but it’s important he doesn’t let others take advantage of him. He knows to stand up for himself. Like Gandhi or Mandela or MLK who fought through non violence.

🍏🍍🍓🍊🍇🍉
I can't see Elon Musk giving in his past life 😅
What are you doing to overcome greed and envy?
Yep, ask any divorce lawyer 😅
😆
I don't know much about Buddhism but it seems the Buddhist explanation is rather flawed. They're doing well because they were good in a past life ---yeah, well...hmmm...the thing is there's no one out there doling out rewards. They're doing well because they're a strong predator and we exist in a predatory system. Life feeds on life. Might makes right. Advantage doesn't care about labels of good and evil. Psychopaths, sociopaths and vicious lunatics thrive in our world. They're CEOs of the largest corporations. They lead countries. They're at the top of the food chain.
Fortunately it's more complex than that. We live in a social system too where being socially functional and compatible has its advantages as well. Once you get past the idea of somebody out there keeping score and giving rewards you can start to understand the system. The system is the only thing there is. I think though, and I could be wrong, the System is dynamic, its evolving just like we are. It's infinitely complex and growing more complex. I think in ways we're creating it, or at least growing along with it....influencing it. Machiavellianism is a reality but it isn't the whole reality. Existence is complex enough that life is a creation....its your creation.
May be you should study Buddhism first and judge later?
@@susannegerber7360 As soon as you see a cult leader getting turned into a deity, that's really all ya gotta know. Any more energy put into it and the next thing you know you're selling flowers at the airport or going door to door with pamphlets.
