Roborock has released its newest multipurpose floor cleaner, the dual vacuum and mopping Roborock S7. So what does it take to get this version to stand out? How about Sonic Mopping?
That’s the premise behind this bot, which essentially vibrates your floor clean. I recently received the Roborock S7 model to test out and review in my home. We’ll get into what exactly Sonic Mopping is, what it can do better than other mop bots, how well this home cleaning robot works- and if I think it’s a good investment for you.
    What is Roborock S7?
The S7 is Roborock’s newest home cleaning robot. I reviewed the S4, a simple robot vacuum, not that long ago and you can see that review here on the blog too.
This version adds mopping capabilities to the vacuuming, and with this robot floor cleaner it will actually both vacuum and mop at the same time, an enticing premise.
Let’s take a look at what you get. In the box is the robot unit, charging base station plus the mopping plate and removable, washable microfibre cleaning cloth. A small water tank for the mop lives at the back side of the robot, while the removable dustbin for the vacuum is under the hood.
    Set up
To get your bot ready for housekeeping is actually pretty easy. Plug it in and let it get a full charge. Download the Roborock app and sign into or sign up for an account. You’ll follow the steps in the app to connect to your home’s Wi-Fi connection, which was quick and easy. I was ready to go in just a few minutes.
Once the robot is charged, send it out on its first cleaning pass. This allows the robot to use one of its key features, that will let it be super specific to your home: laser mapping.
The Roborock S7 will go out and using LIDAR navigation it can create a detailed map of you house, floor by floor- up to 4 levels. With that detailed map, you can create rooms or zones and use room-specific cleaning, either from the app or using a voice assistant. (More on that coming up.)
    Laser LiDar navigation: Roborock
So what exactly does this Lidar technology do? This lets the bot ‘see’ around obstacles and in bouncing its lasers off your walls and furniture it can draw a really detailed map of your home; then it knows where it can and can’t go, it knows which obstacles to avoid, and you can delineate specific rooms for dedicated room by room floor cleaning.
You can also set up schedules to clean certain rooms on certain days, so you don’t have to do a thing.
What happens with mopping and carpet?
If you wonder what the mop will do with carpets, great question. That’s actually the second major feature. The Roborock S7 has what’s called VibraRise technology which the company says “enables nimble navigation in challenging environments.
This VibraRise™ technology automatically lifts the mopping plate when carpets are detected. This innovative feature made possible by Roborock’s new ultrasonic carpet recognition technology enables the S7 to mop hard floors and vacuum carpets in one, single cleaning session, without interruption.
The bot did skim over my carpets, but I didn’t see any residual wetness so it seems like the lifting technology is working.
    Customizing vacuuming and mopping
Plus, you can actually adjust the cleaning intensity by room, so if your kitchen or hallway needs more attention, you can get it. I was actually pretty surprised and impressed by this feature, and immediately enabled deeper cleaning on the kitchen and hallway and the bathrooms.
Let’s dig into the cleaning and how well it works:
I put all my robot mops or vacuums through the same tests… with mopping, I’ll spill some milk or liquid on the floor to see how the bot wipes it up.
With the Roborock S7, it did a good job of wiping up small messes, and keeping dust and light dirt and dog prints at bay.
Vacuuming: how well does Roborock S7 Clean
As noted, you can get exactly the clean you want with the Roborock S7; you can adjust vacuum intensity room by room. The robot does a good job of getting at most dirt.
    Carpet Boost
The Roborock S7 has Carpet Boost technology where the bot recognizes carpet and increases suction when it rolls over it. The bot does quite a good job at this and the difference is noticieable.
Different floor surfaces: How well does RoboRock S7 clean
In terms of its ability to get over taller obstacles, I can say the S7 was never hung up on trim, edges or rugs during my testing.
The Roborock S7 was easily able to handle the different types of floor surfaces in my space; I had carpet, rugs, tile and hardwood and it cleaned each one well, and was even able to navigate some taller transitions without getting stuck

I have an S5 and an S6 MaxV. I like them. I use one downstairs, the other upstairs, to avoid carrying them floor to floor. I use my central vacuum's edge tool to empty the dust bin. I found that using the mopping feature ends up soiling the entire machine and I have to do more elaborate and frequent washing of the components. - I use an ultrasonic tank for cleaning them. I was not satisfied with the effectiveness of the mopping. I am firm on having clean / dirty solution tanks rather than just attempting to trap dirt on the mop. I use the Tineco Floor One S3 Cordless Hardwood Floors Cleaner - yes it is a manual task

Love watching your reviews! Your videos are always informative, straight to the point and unbiased. I like how you tell your experiences with both the good and the bad, and show examples to back them up. I have been looking at, and researching robovac's for several months while waiting on Amazon Prime Day (today) to finally get one. With so many brands and models to choose from, as well as different options and opinions, and my budget to say under $325 USD, the process was somewhat overwhelming. Thanks to you and your reviews, I made a decision and pulled the trigger on the Roborock S4 Max today, with much confidence in that decision (great review). Thanks for all the hard work you put into doing all these reviews for us!

Just got my first, the Roborock S4 Maxx! I am a believer now! It's incredible! Had it for 2 days now! Major upgrade from my old Eufy Robovac G30 Edge, which was very problematic, had to get it replaced by Eufy! Roborock's LiDAR mapping is perfect, hasn't gotten stuck once. And, it cleans the house about 50% faster than the Eufy simply because it's mapping is so much better! I got an amazing deal!
Battery life is amazing! So glad I spent a tiny bit more for the S4 Maxx! Amazon always has amazing sales too! I'd love to upgrade to the S7 Plus one day. I don't even care about Roomba anymore, their technology is so dated. LiDAR should be on every robot vac imo.

Great, clear review! It looks like the perfect little companion for my apartment. Ive heard that you can not use any sort of floor cleaner with the robot, which makes mopping with only water not super effective. But have you tried using it with any "natural" cleaner such as vinegar or lemon juice? I've also heard that pre-soaking the mop cloth with a gentle cleaner makes a big difference!

would be good if the app allows you to 'paint' on the map where there are tough stains, so it mops over those spots 5+ times to really get the stains out
