    it's a good rundown. i would also include the chinese jump smash. it's neither a stick smash nor a jump-out smash because your body is turned in preparation but you don't rotate your hips. we saw this one a lot from lin dan and also LCW, and it is used by a lot of players now. also any of these smashes may include some degree of forward or reverse slice, and of course power variations. the trick is to not only master it all technically, which takes a lot of work, but also to develop awareness and tactical skill so you intuitively know how to craft your attack for the situation, which takes even more work

    Hello Greg & Jen, Thanks for this video it has really helped me a lot. If i may ask, I have a question about recovery from injury. I have injure my lower back (piriformis muscle which is affecting sciatica nerve) . I have been in this pain for months , I have been in limited movements due to this injury. Have you or any other athletes had this issue due to overstretching while hitting a smash or taking a hit by stretching yourself to an arching lower back position to the back of the court? have you had a similar injury and what therapy worked best for you? I will appreciate it if you could share some light on this topic.

    • @BadmintonInsight
      @BadmintonInsight  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Non-racket hand up = yes definitely! This helps your timing, balance and rotation. For the legs to be bent to a 90 degree, no this isn’t important! But some players do it when they get a loooot of height on their jump and it helps them to really stretch out their chest!

      All of these smashes (apart from the backhand smash) can be done from the forehand and round-the-head side! 😊

    Hello, I noticed you didn’t include the point that the jump smash can generate more power than a standard smash. If you jump slightly forward instead of 100% upwards. You will be able to generate more power from the jump smash. Let me know what you think.

    • @BadmintonInsight
      @BadmintonInsight  Před 6 měsíci +2

      It definitely can generate more power yes, but we tried to limit each smash to just 2-3 key tips... If we included everything (technique & tactics) about each smash then the video would have been about 2 hours long 🤣
