This trick will allow you to gain root level access and bypass any login password on Macs
Step 1 : Get access to Terminal
Step 2 : Inside Terminal type "cd /Users"
Step 3 : Inside Terminal type "ls". This will list all the usernames in the computer
Step 4 : For the username you want the password to be removed type
"passwd -d username" where username is the username you want to change the password on
Step 5 : Restart Computer and get login without password :)
Bonus : To change the password to something else inside terminal type "passwd username" and then hit enter it will ask you to enter a new password.
Just letting everybody know that this worked on my 2010 Mac, in two weeks it will be 2020 :)

By the way do you have anything for windows laptops where screen turning on but black can't see anything and then after along time it shows -your laptop didn't restarted properly and gives option for restart and advancr option. I don't want to loose data at all. Please suggest
on mbp 2020 intel why can't it? pressing command S did appear like that but it didn't stop and immediately entered the OS while still asking for the admin password

Hello Can you help me please. My Macbook pro has become very slow.
When I start the computer (Applejack) with cmd + S, the following message appears:
"Unable to discover location of virtual memory directories
Make sur that $wapdir is declared in a standard way.
I think my macbook is so slow because the directorie of the virtual memory is not immediately found.
Can you help me how to reactivate this memory? How too do?

It didn't work on my MacBook pro 2015 on the latest OS. It flashed the terminal and quickly switched to login page. It locked just before i traveled and i have not been able to reset the login password even with my iCloud account that i have been using on the Mac since I procured it new. please any ideas. Hey, so I tried this, but mine does not show me “local host” or “root”. And it hasn’t shown root and I’ve tried it multiple times. It says different letters and numbers, even though my computer does has my account as admin.

Question to all, my Mac by default restarts on macintosh HD2 but I’m trying to reset my password for macintosh HD1. Obviously I can’t change it in startup for HD1 to be my default startup drive as I do not have the password. How do I set HD1 as default in order to reset the password? Or any other ideas anyone has would be appreciated. Thanks.

I can't get it working on a 2017 15" touchbar. The screen is not working so it's difficult to see in terminal but i think i followed all of the steps in the description with spaces. ls (lower case L) didn't list any user accounts though after i tried the command and hit enter. The account i am trying to get past is called Test. Bought this macbook on ebay with broken screen, using it on a 4K monitor but that won't work in system mode.
For me didnt work ,just say me admin and macadmin and when i try to see the paswords the console shows a mesagge like (passwd) illegal attempt -d

I have a 2011 MAC that I have not used in over four years. Since then, I have changed my APPLE ID and APPLE PASSWORD. My MAC doesn’t recognize APPLE ID is it because my APPLE ID is not recognized since it has been over four years and it does not get updated to the Mac since it has not been on? Tried your suggestion on my 2011 Mac a screen flashed up similar to what you had but not as long but then returned to the first screen where you enter the email and password. Is there something else I could do? I tried the COMMAND R I typed resetpassword get to the screen where you type select FORGOT PASSWORD but then went back to APPLE ID.

Have you ever ACTUALLY done this? If so you would see that -d is not a valid operator for the passwd command.

So quick question my wife’s old iMac from her dad who is now passed away is locked because she does not remember the password and her ex-boyfriend broke the screen, so how do I go about doing this with a cracked screen? I even tried screen mirroring with an external computer screen, but the terminal doesn’t screen mirror onto it I wanted to bring back old memories for her thank you in advanced.

For my MacBook Air I pressed and held both the power button and option button for a while and later released the power button while still pressing the option button. It worked perfectly 😊

It did not bring me into terminal. It brought me to start up options. Still cannot get in as it doesn’t accept Apple ID and password. So frustrated. This all started when I upgraded my operating system.
