To see how engaged the crowd is and to give a standing ovation right as they complete the rotating horse during Zelda is amazing. These are college football fans, not fans at a drum corps show reacting that way. Truly amazing moment.

How the hell did the stick bounce back to him?! 😵
From a physics standpoint, the stick is initially spinning in the counterclockwise direction. Once the end touches the ground, the ground exerts a torque causing the stick to now bounce back to the drum major but now in the clockwise direction. This works since there is enough friction between the stick and the ground, otherwise it would just slip and fall down flat. It is pretty much conservation of angular momentum.

Not very many hours at all. This might be unbelievable, but if you join TBDBITL, you learn a brand new show like that every single week, for every football game's half-time show. What's even more unbelievable, is that these are students from OSU, they still have to study, attend classes, have a social life, and all while being in an amazing marching band.
I"m only 7 years late to your comment but that other person is right. These performances are learned so incredibly fast- it truly takes selecting the best students possible. It's so hard to get into this band, but also brutally hard to have a life outside of it. Impressive as f---- though!

Well I'm in 7th grade, and the assistant drum major and when you never get practices unless youre at home its very very hard for me at least. It takes lots of hard work and education. The problem was this year is I don't even play a marching instrument I play oboe, and had to use flute music and lower it an octave. Now I'm in beginning band again learning trumpet.

I know we played with the highschool a few weeks ago and we already play all the highschool music the highschoolers play and I'm on my second year T-T our band director is fucking crazy!! we had to memorize hard music that just looking at the music I could barely play!!

The baton has rubber at each end so it can bounce back up .but the trick to his performance takes practice, practice,practice.the key for this outstanding performance.

Not an American football fan, not into bands, but I fell on one of these videos by accident, and I have to say it's amazing! How the heck do they do that? And the Drum Major! Love that crazy high kicking run.
Insane amounts of practice. I played football in high school and had some friends in marching band and they would still be practicing for hours after we were done. And that's just in high school, they'd do band camp in summer and the way they described it sounded more like a military boot camp.

Libby Prolo He's using the counter rotation from spinning the baton in a certain direction. Since the floor is a force the baton can't move, the baton is pushed back going counterclockwise and coming back from its original point. Physics is involved in this. Now how he timed it to go perfectly with the song? Well he's just a god because of that.

OSU needs to do something for their returning alumni, they need to do an alumni dance tunnel like those at Howard University, where returning cheerleaders, flag squad and others strut their stuff before a game. Would be awesome to see all the alumni dance in.

The amazing thing about the Mario castle, removing the Michigan flag and raising an Ohio State flag, is this was October 2012.
Michigan had won The Game in 2011. Starting in November 2012, Ohio State would win 8 straight.
