  • With Hugo Vickers (Alice, Princess Andrew of Greece)
Princess Alice, mother of Prince Philip, became sensitive to the underprivileged after her experiences growing up deaf. During World War II, she shielded a Greek Jewish family at the royal palace in Athens. Royal historian Vickers vividly brings this extraordinary figure to life.

I can’t figure out why there has never been a movie or a docu-drama mini-series about Princess Alice. Instead of endless re-makes and sequels, this woman and her fascinating life would make great material for an original film. Now, about casting...

1:04:23 She was from the Canino branch descended from Napoleons youngest brother Lucien. Not part of the Imperial Family as defined by Napoleon III, but they had the titles of Prince Bonaparte and Prince of Canino.

Thank you for sharing this presentation. I had just watched a documentary, and Mr. Vicars gave me a much better understanding of the family connections. He also painted a portrait of Princess Alice as a tart, dutiful, and almost stern individual. One can see parts of her personality stamped in the character of her son. It is so valuable to have this online! Thank you , again!
