2.10 first try is absolute insanity
Maybe 22 is the magic age. That was the age of the Bulgarian who went 2.09 37 years ago. Amazing.
She should have kept jumping. No guarantee you will ever be that hot again.
Well, it's easier on the first than on the second or third attempt. So why not just skip this "first try" nonsense?
@@hermodnitter3902бред! После первой попытки, можно подкорректировать точку разбега, она всегда клеит метку .
@@hermodnitter3902 well it was from a previous PB of 2.06 that is quite the raise in one go.
I watched the Women's high jump live feed as it was streamed. Watching her break the world record in real time was absolutely electric.
Where do you watch it?
@@zumaanandrade3961 It's on the "Live" tab of the Diamond League CZcams channel, but it's geo-locked, meaning it's only available in certain countries. If it's blocked in your country, use a VPN server from an unblocked country to access it.
It's the same with many other channels. For example, the World Athletics CZcams channel has the ENTIRETY of Budapest 2023 and Eugene 2022.
was it a dedicated high jump feed or like normal track and field events where they cover multiple sports?
You're So lucky!! I have had Yaroslava on my Google News alert for years and nearly fell over when the alert popped up she had broke the record! Man I wish we all could have watched it live but I the olympics are ahead and she is looking fit. Whatever the issue was that caused her to wear the brace on her thighs clearly has resolved so being able to watch her live during the Olympics will be incredible . Hopefully they will play the WR jump many times so more people around the world are made aware of her achievement. Another WR is to much to hope for but a gold medal is certainly within her reach this year! Exciting!
covering multiple sports, the commentators reaction was even fake, as he had seen the world record happen about 40 seconds ago live.
The Mahuchik breakdowm gave me goosebumps. Beautifully told
the moment wrote itself. Unbelievable in the flesh!
Ukraynere
She's MA-GU-CHI-H
Mahuchikh is just pure poetry in motion.
Her technique when she cleared 2:07 was so clean, unbelievable execution. She knew after that jump she was in the zone, and then does 2:10 first attempt. ❤
It seems like only yesterday that Yaroslava was the under 18 European champ. I was amazed by her talent then.
Now this! Congrats Yaroslava...you worked so very hard and rightfully deserve this new WR. I am very happy for you!
Yaroslava Mahuchikh is my new hero. My new role model.
Or for the last 4 years.
She is very pretty, good nature high jump girl ever.
She's been building to this for a couple of years, like jumping 2.06 indoors. Then something happened to disrupt Ukrainian athletics, I've heard. Completely not out of nowhere.
Yeah, what a bizarre headline considering the whole track world has been waiting and expecting her to break this record!
@@charleswyler4268 I dunno... A four-centimetre improvement on your PB to break one of the longest-standing records in the sport has to be considered pretty unexpected. It would be like a woman running the 100 in 10.45 without drugs and an unrecorded five-metre tailwind.
@@scrivener68 Not anywhere close to comparable, it's more like if Thompson-Herah in her prime broke the 100m WR, she was actually within striking distance so it would have been incredible but made sense. Sometimes things just come together perfectly and this was one of those times.
@@user-mm4hd1hz9qexactly, after Olyslagers did not take 2.03, the bar was lowered to 2.02, saying that it was 2.07, and then when Yaroslava half-heartedly took this height on the second attempt, instead of setting the bar to her 2.10 they also lowered it by 2.01, and maybe even lower by 1.90, for example, so that Yaroslava would definitely take it, otherwise the Olympics would not be legitimate. Well done, you uncovered a worldwide conspiracy against russia 😂😂😂
Another truly remarkable effort was Kendricks in the pole vault, his clearance of 5.95m actually had a minimum clearance of 6m 22!!!! just 2cm shy of the world record, what a jump, what potential.
I’m not seeing anything about this?
@@q12aw50 hooray duplanthis new Record as 6.25m. What is Already From Astonishing ?
Well done, Mr Jumpman, for delivering a *story* about Yaroslava's WR!
I mean, we people *love* telling stories to each other, and yet all those YT channels do is presenting us witn boring footages from broadcasting.
The moment when she made that 10 sign, man, that was iconic!
What a wonderful Ambassador for high jump & Ukraine... beautiful, talented, a 22 years old, breaks a 37 year old barrier. Magic stuff, fly yaroslava, fly😅😊😊
Surely I can’t be the only one disappointed by the commentary during Mahuchikh’s 2.10m. During track events they’ll be screaming their heads off in delight when someone runs the 18th fastest time in history, meanwhile this completely unexpected 2.10m for one of the oldest records in athletics felt like it was being commentated as some run-of-the-mill competition.
I think that's due to it being taped, they didn't even show it live so anyone who had the live results up would have seen the 2.10 result well before they even showed her clearing 2.07.
I was watching it live as well and it honestly really ruined the moment when it was so obviously just a replay of a *WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT*!!!
In the USA we had announcer coverage with these 2 fellows who seemed uninterested and not fully aware of the historic event that had just occurred. I was Very disappointed by their lack of energy and inability to capture the moment. . The announcers in this video, the man and woman, seem much better. Are they the same as were in the 2019 Doha video, with the English accents? They seem like they cover the high jump often and with better commentary.
this whole comment thread is so true man. once every 30 year moment happens, and we get re-run commentary. atleast he tried his best to make the moment. If there is a world record attempt it should be LIVE at the bear minimum!
@@JumpmanTFI think it was in Eugene at the 2022 world championships that they almost missed Mondo’s world record. But not playing this high jump record live is a crime. They even said “she’ll never forget this” in a flat tone, when I’ve heard them say “everybody who watched this moment will remember where they were when it happened for the rest of their lives” for lesser feats. In my opinion this is the greatest moment in athletics this year and it’s like they barely noticed it. Same goes for Katzberg’s 84m hammer throw earlier this year, making him the second furthest throwing non-eastern bloc thrower in history, and people have barely noticed. I was a track athlete myself, but the lack of attention to field events is really frustrating.
NBC totally blew it with the WR. It was shown almost as an afterthought. As we all know, the build up to the record attempt is a big part of the drama and that was totally missed here. THIS was the performance of the meet as opposed to the brilliant Kipyegon's breaking of her own WR.
Bravo, Yaroslava 💙💛
And Yaroslava Mahuchikh is very attractive too.
Specsavers called, your new glasses are ready for collection.

Things lined up so i'd be able to go Paris, got tickets for the two high jump finals and now i'm somehow even more excited
Holy crap bro, I hope you have a BLAST. I'm 100% going to the next Olympics. Will be a dream come true to be watching.
I have been watching her jump since she was 17 yrs old
Always new she had it in her

And go from that to music Wirtual uses on his similar progression videos, when he gets to end that shows the ultimate WR. Cultured channel
Its the finest world record music hahha
Summoning Salt!
Quite disrespectful towards Stefka Kostadinova, using the word erased. She didn't erase what achievements Stefka had.
… and then Mahuchikh got this jump … (saxophone outro)
What a week of athletics!
I also thought it was a joke or click-bait when I saw the YT vids claiming a new high jump world record. Happily surprised and still giddy over it :)
Just wanted to point out you're still pronouncing Mahuchikh's name quite off. You're saying "ma-hu-kitch" instead of "ma-hu-chikh". As always, love the weekly recaps, love the content.
This
Yeah. She's been one of the best in the world since 2019. Someone who is obsessed with the high jump has had plenty of time to at least get somewhere close to the right pronunciation.

I think one of my favourite narrative bits is what this could mean for the country of Ukraine. The current Olympic champion (who deserves a great deal of respect as an athlete) is from Russia, and she was awarded a lieutenant title from the Russian military for her accomplishments. Now, in the wake of what that same Russian military has done in the country of Ukraine, what a great symbol for Ukraine if Yaroslava not only wins the Olympics following the Russian, but manages to break one of the oldest soviet era records in the book while doing it. Very glad for what Mahuchikh has managed to accomplish.
Out of nowhere? Haven't you seen her jumps at Doha in 2019, when she was just 18 and made a new junior record? I was thinking she's up to something like Blanka Vlašić some 15 years ago.
I always expected her to do it in future, but her progression from 2019 to 2024 was only from 204 to 206 cm, so yeah suddenly 210 is out of nowhere.
@@trapeznik For those who saw her level of evolution in the last four competitions, she saw that she raised the bar considerably.
Yeah the thing is the high jump has a long history of extremely promising young athletes coming painfully close to the world record and never getting there. Barshim on the men's side is just tragic (not that he can't still do it... maybe). Yaroslava could have gone the rest of her career topped out at 2.06 or maybe tying Blanka's 2.08, nobody would be disappointed or surprised. This world record did indeed come out of nowhere, at least in high jump terms.
@@futfem7rPrado The point of saying "out of nowhere" is emphasizing how special that achievement actually was. And saying otherwise is underestimating what she actually did. Her improving only by 2 centimeters in 4 years show how hard it is to improve at those heights already. Let alone every next centimeter above 206... That was her Bob Beamon moment.
She has been saying for awhile that she is changing her training and technique specifically for the Olympics
Doing this at 22, I expect to see this record fall quite a lot into the future in a Duplantis fashion
So much less room to improve than in the pole vault though. And no equipment really to speak of. Maybe if she could go up quarter centimeters or something
Interestingly, Kostadinova also did it at 22.
I wouldn't expect that at all
Why? Kostadinova didn’t, and neither did Sotomayor.
She might have broken it if she had kept jumping, but she foolishly quit.
Im not sure, i could see a cm or two... if shes really lucky. But good feeling this might just stand for years.
Love at first sight!! Thank you Miles for turning me on to this, for putting a link in your paper!!
I agree, appreciate it Miles!
Bloody bonkers! 4 cm! Insane. Well done, Yaroslava!
Oh shit, he used THE MUSIC for that ABSOLUTELY INSANE world record. Jumpman is now officially one of the GOATs.
That 800 was completely insane, and the same field + Arop are competing in monaco this weekend. Wouldn't be too surprised to see the WR there since the monaco 800's are always fast
That was the greatest race I've ever seen, at least until next week!
i didn't know the Monaco field will be so stacked. extremely excited!
She done something that no one else could do for the last 37 years. Amazingly... .
Absolutely beautiful what a legend and what a legacy to leave behind you.
OUT OF NOWHERE! is a bloody insult. You dont get a world record out of nowhere. Time, training, dedication, highs, lows sacrifice..etc etc
Been waiting for the @Jumpman recap! Did not disappoint
She also certainly has a future on the fashion runway after she retires from track and field.
all track woman could do it. Track produces the body types for runway modeling.
2:58 Using all the grip of her feet, Yaroslava went full speed through the corner and executed a beautiful ubegbug at a precise angle, beating the world record by just 1 meter. Even Hefest himself admitted that this was one of the best runs in the history.
I had a slight hope for an Aussie gold medal in the women's high jump in Paris, but that hope has now disappeared. Everyone else is jumping for the minor medals.
The way Wanyonyi kicked again after being passed and looking well beaten in the straight was amazing. I think he'll win in Paris.
Никогда нельзя терять надежду!
This Olympics will be overwhelmed by the number of records. So many athletes come to it on the very peek of their physical form.
She DIDN’T “erase” it. She surpassed it.
Watching athletics WRs with the Summoning Salt/ Wirtual music playing is scratching a very specific itch in my brain.

She worked hard, but extremely unexpected with her last few years form. No one doubted the potential though.
Helpful to think about kipyegon not really having a draft the entire race. Give her a great draft for a 1000 M and she could probably run 347.0

Nice recap, got a subscribe from me.
I started following Women's HJ due to the stunning beauty of Mahuchikh's compatriot, Levchenko, who also happens to be legit. When Yaroslava came along I immediately predicted she would break the world record. The height she was getting on bars at 2.04 & 05 was simply undeniable. Frankly, I'm surprised it took this long. I thought she'd get it while winning the '21 Olympics. I missed that call but continued to be confident it was coming.
Btw, how weird is it the Ukraine has two such beautiful high jumpers at the same time? Levchenko could be a European runway model and Mahuchikh could do commercial work as the wholesome girl next door type beauty.
Its crazy that she still has more that she can clear!
Beauty and the Best.
La beauté et le meilleur.
Many of these athletes are professionals with sponsors. Why do they have to safety pin paper name sheets to their uniforms like school children. The companies that provide the clothing could print the name directly on the clothing like is done in some many other sports.
it is weird isn't it. not sure about the solution, because the name across the front is definitely better than on the back, but a giant paper bib is stupid.
Finally bro. I've been watching you being a slacker for days.
HAHAHAHA
@@JumpmanTF Seriously, been coming here everyday, watching, throwing despicable glances of rejection all over your channel.
Absolutely great jump by this beautiful young woman. Now for a reality check. Charley Dumas jumped the same height, set a new world record and won the gold metal in the 1956 Olympics, SIXTY EIGHT YEARS AGO !!!
8 People have gone under 1:43 in the 800m this season. This is probably the greatest season of the 800m in history so far.
Super well edited video. Liked and subbed :3
I was a 1.98 jumper in high school. Bravo to her !
Man I thought you were about to be like " and in an unheard of move, Mahuchikh lined up for the 1500m after that" XD I STARTED STANDING UP YALL
Both Stefka Kostadinova and Yaroslava Mahuchikh broke the HJ world record at age 22.
Holy cow she cleared that 2.10 by at least 2-3 cm
Unbelievable 🔥🔥
Please confirm one fact for me: in that 800m race all the athletes were wearing shoes with a carbon fibre insert?
For example the Alphafly 3 is designed with a unique foam sole, a thin plate of curved carbon fibre, and two bubble-like Air Zoom airbag cushions at the ball of the foot.
This is also known as a mechanical aid and mechanical aids are, of course, barred from athletics. So WTF are athletes not only using it in competitions but being allowed to break records? If you put a big metal spring under the sole of your shoes you would be barred from competing. The spring is a mechanical aid. Why has the world gone mad and forgotten what a mechanical aid is?!!!!!!!
Topic is just 18 years old.. That kid going to go far❤
The yaroslava, topic matchups will be insane for years to come.
Great Paris videos
For a little more, at the FBK games, Niels Laros of the Netherlands ran a world junior record in the 1000 meters with 2:14:37 and teammate Jessica Schilder won the women's shot furthering her national record to 20.33m in a competition that saw 3 women go over 20 meters including women's shot put legend Gong Lijiao at 35 YEARS OLD. Schilder is a Netherlands legend and we could be looking at 5 women over 20m in the Olympic (Ross, Saunders, Jackson of the USA, Lijiao and Schilder). Back in Paris you have to recognize all the PB's SB's and NR's set in the women's 1500. When greats like Kipyegon run, they carry everyone to greatness. 3 men over 85 meters in the javilen and shoutout to one of my personal favorite throwers Jordine Van Klinklen for 67.23 and second behind Allman. She's the NCAA discus record holder and competes in both the discus and shot put on the world stage being a finalist in both last year in Budapest. The Netherlands have a lot of pretty dominant athletes and if World Athletics ever implemented a team scoring or team title feature they'd be a threat...... for second of course.
You are forgetting about a certain world leader, Sarah Mitton with 20.68 this year. Also german Ogunleye has been over 20 this year, and Song Jiayuan for sure has the potential as well. Also as a swede i believe in Fanny Roos, and especially Axelina Johansson. I think she could do something pretty great. Womens shot put is insanely deep right now.

@@JumpmanTF I think what also must be considered is that a great long or triple jump can be measured exactly but if a high jumper or pole vaulter clears the bar by a wide margin they are only credited for the height of the bar. I do wonder if some of the 2.08 and 2.07 jumps in the past would've cleared 2.09 or even 2.10. Yaroslava's 2.07 was so clean it looked like it would've cleared at least 2.09. There can't have been many attempts at 2.10 and when it does the athlete will usually be tired after a long competition.
