The second anthem from Africa so far, and what a fun one it is! I had an absolute blast playing this, and despite taking multiple takes, I never got frustrated or even though about how many takes I've done.
I chose to match the articulation of a particularly popular recording which I modeled by transcription after. It may not work for the text, but I hope it makes it interesting to listen to. From my end though, the interesting articulation is part of what made it so fun to play.
You can really feel the nobility and pride of a nation in this anthem. I would not be surprised if I continue to sing the melody of this anthem a long time from now. It's pretty catchy.
I used the sheet music found here as my basic framework: www.nationalanthems.info/ci.htm.
The key I'm playing in is A-flat major, which is the key I found to be the consensus among recordings (although G major was quite popular too).
The music of the National Anthem of Ivory Coast (L'Abidjanaise - song of Abidjan) was written by Pierre Michel Pango in 1959. Perhaps at that point in history, Pango already knew of Ivory Coast's incoming independence, since they became independent in 1960 and officially adopted L'Abidjanaise as the national anthem. L'Abidjanaise is modeled off of the French national anthem, La Marseillaise, which I will be covering soon!
