My husband had a proposed project up against DAVINCI in the Discovery program. I can't say, after I read about it, that I'm upset that DAVINCI got the nod. It's going to be awesome, awesome science.

Might I recommend reading some books by Michio Kaku. His books on space, physics and the future are entertaining and written in a way that makes it easy for non-scientists to understand.

One of the biggest problems with H2SO4 is that it is extremely hygroscopic - it will suck up any liquid close by and never release it.
Simon here is a suggestion for a series of videos: periods in Earth's history! Doing a video per era, like Jurassic, Triassic, Paleocene, Eocene etc. The history of our planet is so epic yet most people now next to nothing. Too bad you are not in Geographics any more. Just imagine that perhaps within a few decades, our material science might progress enough to construct probes which can both survive and thrive on the Venutian surface. Then, we might end up learning things which would completely revolutionize our understanding of our place in the cosmos.
Nasa was looking for open source design concepts capable of just that. Clockwork computers and such. This could be your moment.

How could you burst into flames without oxygen ?
I had made a comment with the same point but for whatever reason, this channel deleted it. Regardless, the Earth and space stations are the only known places in the solar system that can produce fire since combustion requires molecular oxygen.

There’s some oxygen in Venus’ atmosphere. Not breathable to us humans, but oxygen nonetheless
@@unluckypants6459 a quick google suggests it's only atomic oxygen. So really just random atoms bouncing around in the atmosphere. Not enough for ignition.
Well, we're starting with the premise that you suddenly appear on Venus. With that as the starting point, the idea that you would bring some oxygen with you is not out of the question.

EnVision is an orbital mission to Venus being developed by the European Space Agency (ESA) that is planned to perform high-resolution radar mapping and atmospheric studies.
It's incredible to me how the US cut NASA's budget so hard given that it has given us far more quality of life tech over the years than their military which if I am correct in remembering has a budget in the 10s of billions.
With what little budget NASA already had that cut was just mean for no reason.

Part of the problem is assuming that the microbes that are on venus have evolved on earth and then are now trying to survive on venus. Anything there would have evolved to survive there.

It has a supercritical fluid as an atmosphere. It's somewhere between a super heated gas and liquid of extreme pressure at ground surface. That's about as strange as one could imagine a place to be.

To me its incredibly disappointing they aren't putting a microphone on the probe to record the sound of Venusian wind as it descends. it could very well even pick up the sound of thunder, but we wont hear that for god know how long. until another probe is made with a mic

with all that said; this makes me wonder if the atmospheres of both Venus and Mars consist of about 95% carbon dioxide how come they differ so much in temperature? Just don't tell me it's all because of the overabundant presence of sulfur on Venus.
Hold on. When earth has massive eruptions it causes a year or more of extreme cold. Why would more volcanos going off on Venus make it hotter ?

Between not being quite as much mass as Earth, and having a near tidally locked rotation rate, I suspect plate tectonics there just couldn't quite get going the way it did on Earth. I kind of assume that rotation rate contributed to distorting the interior enough to kill it's core magnetosphere dynamo. It would be fascinating if microbial life does somehow manage to survive in the upper Venusian atmosphere.
