Thanks for an excellent review. I really like the videos that go into detail of a car's systems. The more I see of the MG the more impressed by it I am.
Thanks Phillip. Some great features
Nice video Derek, great to spread the word of technology and capabilities of electric cars.
Another cool thing about traffic jam assist is that if you’re stopped/come to a stop for less than 2 seconds, it will automatically “resume” without you having to pull the stock or tap the accelerator. Pretty cool in those stop/go scenarios on the M50.
Thanks so much for the comment Mircea. The 2 second element is very cool I agree.
Wonderful informative video!
I really really like this car for its price point. I drove it for a week in Australia and loved it; apart from some of the software niggles and satnav mistakes. As a Tesla owner, I think the MG ZS EV is value-for-money and has features that even my Model S does not have such as the blindspot indicators on the wing mirrors, great all-round visibility, heated seats, and rear window wiper. Also, the 7-year full warranty is fantastic! I consider the MG ZS EV to be an ideal second EV for me; and I also recommend it to anyone who is considering an affordable family EV.
Thanks for the comment and your thoughts Toofless. Glad you enjoyed it and totally agree with your summary
Very useful.thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Great video Derek. We actually used to live in the same apartments as you as I spotted your EV review Ireland gear - watched a ton of your videos and I’ve actually made the switch to the MG ZS EV - expecting it in September!
Thanks Robert, it's a very small world. Glad you're enjoying the channel and best of luck with the MG. A great choice!
Excellent review!!
Glad you liked it! Thanks for the comment too
Great demo of these feature. I suspect features will only be used by tech affiniados. Happy Christmas and Best Wishes for new adventure in 2022.
Thanks Eamon. The same wishes to you
Go to sound , and turn down your indicator sound
Good to know! Thanks
Good review I'd image these MG's will be a good seller especially with the bigger battery...Seen the marvel spec with twin motors pity they aren't available in rhd!!
Thanks Rob. Yes, big battery and good price point. Not sure the Marvel R would be able to compete against other brands at a more expensive price tag.
nice
Thanks for the comment Reddylion
great video, just a small question, for the speed assist does it apply the brake for you for example at the downhill or it only cuts the acceleration and the car can still keep roll above the speed limit.
Great question! Unfortunately I think it's just lack of acceleration but I can't confirm
You had to make a *lot* of adjustments whilst driving. Are these features really safer than keeping your eyes on the road & a light right foot? Also I've an MG5 LR. The software looks snappier - did you think it will be compatible with the earlier MG models?
I think it will only be on newer models. I was making a lot of adjustments but once you were used to it, it would come very natural I assume. Thanks for the comment Shane
MG is way underrated.
Thanks for the comment Andrew, I totally agree
Thanks for the video, looks promising. Does the car feel like it's worth the money? It costs 420.000 SEK in Sweden (before incentives though), so I can either get a brand new this one or a VW ID.3 1st edition with Max trim and a 10.000 km on the clock. Feels like a tough choice.
A very tough call. Both great cars so down to test drive and personal preference. SUV or Hatchback. Toss a coin maybe 🤔
@@NevoEVReviewIreland bloody helll, that close, huh? I'm gonna go to a dealer tomorrow and test the MG. Will get back with an update. Cheers and thanks once again for great content.
@@zaneverovati what did you end up doing ? The range on MG would be more compared to VW I believe
@@AdrianMcDaid I literally got very lucky with timing and the company I work with offered me a company car, so I asked for an iX3 and got that. I would've gone for the MG, but the lead time here in Sweden is 6-8 months (no guarantees that it won't be longer).
Thanks for very helpful video, Derek. But do you know or any readers know how to save or resume intelligent speed assist and your other preferences when you restart car? So annoying to make a one minute stop at a shop of whatever and then have to wade through all the screens again to reset your options. My dealer says returning to factory settings each time is a safety feature, but I think that's nonsense, features that induce boredom and stress are hardly safe! Many thanks. Chris
I'm not aware unfortunately but hopefully some owners can jump into this comment thread and answer.
Thanks for the video.
I find the intelligent speed control a bit silly as in practice most people drive faster as car speed is always a bit lower then the actual speed, plus you have corrections from where you get fines.
For the rest i guess the traffic assist is useful but still weird you need to command it to continue, instead of it doing it automaticly, i wonder why it was programmed to do so.
Can i ask, at the beginning of the video you showed a lot of mg pilot features and options. Are these remembered on the car when you turn it off and on again?
Thanks again!
Thanks for the comment borgqueenx. The Intelligent Speed Assist is especially helpful for taxi drivers I'm told who are on the road all day and may miss a speed reduction. The settings are held I believe and don't need to be reset every time.
If there's a traffic jam on the highway, will the assistance be of any use? Going from still to slowly moving, to still again? Or do I have to activate it after every stop?
Thanks for the question Chris. Let me double check and come back to you.
Here's the answer Chris. If the car comes to a complete stop it will warn you when the car in front takes off but you have to tap the accelerator
@@NevoEVReviewIreland mate I appreciate the reply!!
Do these features apply to the MG Pilot in the 2019 ZS EV Excite?
Thanks for the question Jakey. Let me check and come back to you
Just had confirmation and yes it does I'm told!
Will intelligent speed assist work with cruise control adapting to the signals ?
Thanks Carlos, I doubt it but let me confirm.
@@NevoEVReviewIreland should be a nice and easy feature
Adapt the cruise speed to traffic and signals
The system already does it separately why not together ?
Another thing, when the cruise control brakes, does the brake lights turn on ?
Just had confirmation, unfortunately it doesn't work in conjunction. I suppose it's a level of autonomous driving that we're not quite at yet. The brakes do get engaged.
serious delays announced , Mine was due to arrive in April , looking at August and more likely September now , apparently anyone who ventured into a dealership to order today is looking at 2023 ?
Sorry to hear this Paul. 222 plate it is so now
I bet it’s only 56-58 kph hence useless .
The old traffic jam assist used to wind in what sounded like a cables on a bag of hammers.
Thanks Byron. I'll see what the range of speed for activation and come back to you
I use it at 120km/h, works fine.
Technically same traffic jam assist. What did change from previous model to this one is a new ABS system. I know the sounds you’re referring to, which was basically ABS system “charging up” and getting ready to apply brakes. Glad they’ve addressed that 🙂
Tried the ISA yesterday here in France -- no use at all, as no speed signs when you enter a town , would be better if it utilised the Sat Nav to find out he speed limit.
Thanks Tony, yes with no signs it's of no use and I found the same recently. A SatNav system would be good as long as someone kept it up to date if there were any changes. In France, is everyone supposed to just know the limit?
@@NevoEVReviewIreland The national speed limit is 80 km/h Upon passing a town sign the limit is 50 km/h until you pass the leaving town sign ( the name of the town with a diagonal line through it).
Strange they don't stick up the signs isn't it
The indicator is real loud,or is it because the mic is close to it?
If it is that loud can u turn the sound off?
It's loud, it cannot be tuned down to my knowledge. My mic may make it sound a little more aggressive than it actually is. I had the car again last week and didn't even notice. Maybe I'm getting old
@@NevoEVReviewIreland hahahaha,I'm getting him delivered in a few months,I hope I'm not gonna regret buying it
Not at all! Great value
That was a worry of mine before I got my ZS as a couple of reviews had mentioned the loud indicators. When I drove it for the first time I didn't even notice, they're no different to any other modern car. In fact they're probably set at the perfect volume so you won't end up being that knob driving for 20 miles oblivious that you're still indicating.
Nice car but couldnt live with the loud indicators
Thanks for the comment. Ah, you'll get used to them and definitely won't leave them on!
I believe you can lower the sound of the indicator by lowering the sound of notifications in the menus.
That indicate is super loud. Is that just the mic picking it up or is is that loud in real life
Thanks Sean. Precision Engineering has it right.
Can it be lowered in system settings anywhere ?
@@AndyM... you don’t notice it as much (I’ve never noticed it personally) when you have radio/music on in the background. Try out a silent enough petrol car and turn off A/C and radio, you’ll hear indicators in that too 😂
Don't think so.
Why the heck is the turning signal indicator so loud?
Thanks for the comment. It's operated through the sound system speakers I'm told.
@@NevoEVReviewIreland so ist should be possible to turn the Volume down? At least with a iSmart Update?
No idea but I'm told by MG ZS EV owners you get used to it 🤷♂️
Does the MG ZS EV Long Range still have the pedestrian warning speaker outside the car that makes an artificial noise to warn pedestrians of the car?
Thanks for the comment Daniel. Let me check with MG and come back to you
Yes Daniel it does, it’s an EU mandate for all electric and hybrid vehicles from July 2021
Yea, nah. Down here the basic model of the new ZS EV is $48k (with 50 kWh, not LFP battery). A basic Model 3 costs $67k. I reckon most of people who can fork out $50k for an EV, can squeeze another 19 out of their pockets somehow. Why would you buy this when you can have perfection for just a bit more?
Big pockets to squeeze another 19k 🤣🤣 Thanks for the comment Konrad
@@NevoEVReviewIreland I know it's A LOT of money, I didn't want to sound like a prick. All I mean is that the price gap between an entry-level and a premium car is much lower for EVs than in case of petrol cars. MG ZS here is three times less than the cheapest Mercedes. MG ZS EV is "only" 70% of a Model 3.
I'm considering an EV myself and that's my dilemma at the moment. BYD is introducing their Atto 3 soon, which will be $50k. Looks like a decent car, but hey - maybe it's worth to introduce a stricter saving regime an get a Tesla instead? It's doable.
I hear you. And usually people will lease or have hire purchase agreement so the monthly repayment differences are even smaller
10:13 This horrible sound of indicator tac tac tac tac.
It comes through the car speakers. Some like it and you definitely won't leave the indicator on
4 star euro ncap btw
😯. Where did it lose a star ⭐️? It’s it safe or worth buying.
@@bdeithrick Yes, it is safe, lost the star in the pedestrian
Hey Timothy, just trying to find it's rating on Euro NCAP site. Would you have the link handy?
I can only find the Marvel R 4 Star rating
www.google.com/amp/s/insideevs.com/news/555521/mg-marvel-r-4stars-euroncap/amp/
@@NevoEVReviewIreland I could have mistaken the marvel r with the z's, but I will continue to find it. Seems like the zs 2019 has a 5 star euro ncap rating tho.
