- After all the comments I got on my video ''3 things you don't understand about driving fast'' - I thought I should make a video explaining how you can drive fast without breaking the law. This video will teach you exactly that.
Sometimes petrol heads get a bad rap because of the mistakes of a few bad eggs - so I'm here to show you that you can enjoy your car while still being responsible.

@@MickDrivesCars Slow car fast is a thing for a reason. It is sad to me that people completely forgotten what matters. Driving experience pretty much is a thing of the past as NVH and specs focused engineering takes over.
We lost the connection, sensation of speed and excitement with just mere operation of vehicles over last 20 years.
Fun is pretty much engineered out from every car at this point, except few bespoke sportscars, but even these are far cry from connectivity of 90s and prior cars.
100%. In my home town there is a winding road with greenery to make you go slow. It's way more fun to go 60 km/h there than 200 on the Autobahn. The acceleration and turning is the fun part. Not actually going fast.
If electric power steering makes the steering wheel feel disconnected from the wheels, what about the steer-by-wire that’s in the new cars? That’s truly disconnected from the wheels from a mechanical perspective. But hey, we could get a wireless steering wheel if the connection is always stable.
@@batmanatkinson1188 Which is sad, over last 20 years manufacturers ridden almost all cars from what madecthem entertaining to operate regardless of speed. Add all the "NVH" nonsense and they removed all other sensations entirely.
We are at a verge of driving suv tidepods with gamepads with same lack of sensation(and sound in case of evs) as playing GTA 5. emotionless, featurless and soulless "motoring"...
Pedestrian diesel Peugeot from 2001 is more fun to operate and drive than so called sportscars and sporty cars of modern day.... its ridiculous...
Your best video to date. As an instructor i like to get the most out of my car (fiesta diesel lol), when its safe and legal to do so, even the odd overtake. I get some funny looks especially with the L box on the roof. Those same people doing 40 in a national then do 40 in a 30, then tailgate me/pupils.

The amount of muppets i've been behind who decide it's a good idea to do 30 in a 60 zone on a wide open country lane, in a non-residential area where they might hit an animal, but then decide to do 60 through a 30 zone where it's built up and they might hit a person is absurd.

The type of person who trundles along at 30 on a single carriageway is NOT the same type of person who will roar through residential areas at twice the speed limit. I've seen plenty of people doing exactly what I described. Plenty of people trundling along on national speed limit roads but then doing close to or even double the limit through 30 zones. Definitely not exaggerating.

One person who does 60 in a 30 but will also do 30 in a 60, which was your exact example, is extreme to the point of nonsensical, and can only be an exaggeration. Ignoring those wacky figures though, I agree that some do go both over and under the limit in varying degrees, if that's all you were trying to convey.

In the US, a yellow speed limit sign refers to a "suggested" speed to be traveling. This is visible before highway exits and sharper corners. If for example the speed limit is 70, and I'm taking a ramp to go from x highway to z highway, and there is a suggested speed of 50 on the ramp, it's a fun challenge to just keep the cruise on.
The real challenge is doubling or tripling it is easier to triple a 15 mph corner, but a 30 is quite challenging to double

the suggested is for trucks, so a good rule of thumb is it's safe to do 1.5x the speed, and usually good fun to double
There's a 45mph ramp on my way to work. Fastest I've been around one of those was 85 in my '07 Town Car. Another one, on the way back to work, is rated at 30mph, but the tires start to howl at 45.
Been there done that, generally trying to chill out when it's the morning commute. Sometimes those are really the only twisty roads you'll get in this forsaken land.
This is why I love Europe so much. The roads here are way narrower than in other places but the speed limits are usually quite high, especially on rural country roads. There's a forest nearby where I live and it's crazy what I'm theoretically allowed to do in that forest
one thing people forget is driving in a way where they would be able to stop within their sighting distance. On top of this, in cars with big brakes and tyres, not braking so hard that someone trying to keep up will rear end them if they do have to drop the anchor

Quick note: you can still be nicked for dangerous/reckless driving etc even when driving below speed limit. What feels ok to you may be perceived as a lunacy to old bill. Good luck arguing that in court. Been there, done that.
Speed limit tolerances vary from force to force in the UK, some have no leeway at all, some 10%+2mph, but that was from a time of older cars with cable driven speedo where cable weakens over time and speedo was less accurate. Current digital speedos tend to be a lot more accurate!
It’s worth noting that the margin is quite tight in areas with variable speed limits fitted with cameras. On the other side, almost all private cars display a few percent over the real value, e,g. Mine is +5% across the range. This is usually done deliberately because the standards a lop-sided, in that they are not supposed to display a value that is less than the real speed. They need to take account of factors like tyre wear and tear, pressure levels etc as well.
I suspect that most HGVs and PSVs tend to have more accurate instruments, c.f. cars.
I may be wrong but I believe 10% + 2 should be a rule of thumb for getting pulled by police, but speed cameras will milk you for going 3 over. Not gonna pretend I know what I'm on about though.
current speedos are not ''bang'' on these days. Having driven 100 different cars (rentals) in the last 5 years some were off (indicating higher speed than actual) but never slower. The most accurate was Mercedes A Class from mid 2010 (2018 I believe). The least was Lexus IS300 from 2014 which was more off the faster you were going. You had to respect the speed in the merc, where Lexus always gave you the leeway, though people would often tailgate me.
The relevant standard for instrument accuracy does not allow under display at all, and the maximum over-display is +10% +10km/h. Most manufacturers need to deliberately set them a little high to overcome accuracy/tolerance for various factors, like tyre pressure, other manufacturing accuracy issues etc. My car was near enough 5% fast from new at the whole speed range, so has been deliberately set up like that - and my adjustment accounts for that, by comparison with other instruments, like a camera using GPS, or a stopwatch.@@kamilianos

An important caveat is that, while you might not be speeding per se, you may still be driving too fast for the road conditions, which would constitute dangerous driving or driving without due care and attention. A good example is a narrow windy country road that’s technically a 60mph zone because the highways agency haven’t bothered to assess it
How’s that his fault if they haven’t bothered to change the speed likit
@@philip244 the problem is that the highways agency can’t/won’t bother to assess every single road in England and Wales because there’s simply too much of it. So there are roads where you can be considered to be driving too fast even if it’s not speeding per se.
Don't out-accelerate your corner, you always need to approach a corner with the mindset of "can I stop at this speed if theres a hidden obstacle or danger on that corner.
In Switzerland we have a law that stipulates that your speed must allow you to break on the distance of visibility. They include a formula as well when you learn to drive to calculate the breaking distance. Therefore if you don't see around a corner, it is not adapted to drive at the limit, it is also, in Switzerland at least, by definition illegal.
It is in the UK too, we have a law for 'driving without due care or attention'
It's easy to argue that carrying 60mph through a tiny tight country lane corner isn't due care, so this isn't 'completely legal'

As another German. Fast is relative. 300kph on the Autobahn is not fast either when compared to Airplanes. Its about speed in relation to the environment.

Probably worth noting that you can still get pulled for driving without due care and attention, care being the word of focus there. If a cop sees you entering a corner at 40 at it pushes you wide you might get pulled. I agree with whats being said in the video but its also important to know yours and your cars limit. Just because the speed limit is 60, doesn't quite mean that a cop wont pull you for taking a corner too hard if he thinks it was reckless. It also doesnt mean you should do 60, which this video does explain towards the end. One more point is the signs and road marking. Even though the speed limit is 60, there are still signs that warn you of junctions and such which are intended as a warning to drive carefully. If a cop sees you going 60 into a hard bend and thinks it was reckless, theres a good chance youll get pulled. Same goes for road marking where it tells you to slow down, a cops sees you ignore those marking and you might get pulled. I think a more accurate way of describing this would be that speed cameras wont get you. Its true you wont get a speeding ticket for doing 60 down the entire national limit stretch, but if a cop sees you you could well get a ticket for something else. Overall though I like the video, find a road where the speed limit is a challenge, just know your limits, and if theres a cop behind you, remember that he will be assessing whether you are safe or not as well as watching your speed.
I've been pulled for not speeding. A marked car was gonna do a U turn on a roundabout (3rd exit) so they were on the inside lane. me going on straight (2nd exit of 3) on the outside lane and went under the cop at 45/50 and they went round the whole thing and chased me and said "I wasn't driving safe". It was 5AM (with no traffic bar us) and the car was under control, I think they just didn't like being "undertook"
After the conversation they bombed it off miles over the limit with no blues on whilst I was still doing the limit. Hypocrite much?
@@SabinMedia From the sounds of it, it wasn't safe. Obviously i wasn't there but 45/50 around a roundabout sounds quick. Depends on the roundabout I guess. Also undertaking isn't allowed, not sure if that applies to roundabouts or not but suppose the car youre undertaking on the roundabout tries to move into your lane or cut across it to take an exit that they would have otherwise missed while youre undertaking them. You got to be ready for anything and undertaking whether on a roundabout or not puts you in a sticky situation if the person youre undertaking does something unexpected. Happened to me the other day as i was coming onto a roundabout. The person on the inside lane still indicating right as he passed my entrance decide to take the next exit (my first). Luckily I decided to give him room as i came onto the roundabout because he cut right in front of me. If I had relied on him to go where he was suggesting that he would go and matched his speed or tried to undertake him he would have gone right into me, but that was avoided because i left room for him to move into my lane. Anything could have caused him to turn into my lane, like something blocking his lane or someone brake checking him. Leaving room for error is what avoided a collision that day, had i been undertaking him or even just matching his speed we would have collided
@@consolewarfare5884 undertaking is allowed as long as you are not breaking the speed limit! if a car is doing 65 mph in the middle lane and your doing 70 and you undertake them , then that it is they're problem not yours.
@@justforthelols286 you're right, its not illegal, but is seriously discouraged as it's not a safe manoeuvre. Any car in the middle or left lane should be looking to move left when possible, and anyone in the left lane should be allowing space for them to do so if it is safe in order to allow traffic to flow as intended. So if someone in the middle or right lane is looking to move left into your lane, and you're undertaking them, thats a problem for everyone involved if it goes wrong, not just the person youre trying to undertake. And people can be unpridictable on the road, so they might be sitting in the middle lane for ages then out the blue with no warning move left, and if your undertaking at that moment you got to slam on the brakes and hope no one is doing 70 behind you. Not only that but an argument could be made that you are at just as much fault as them precisely because you were untertaking them, which there is usually no good reason for as you should be overtaking them not undertaking them. I understand that some people just sit in the fast lanes, but unless theyre doing less than 60 I'd say its un-necessary to undertake them, they'll usually get the hint when your being impatient behind them and move over.
I’d say you have identified a flaw in the UK because speed cameras on rural routes have by in large replaced the sort of traffic patrols so the likelihood of your around the bend situation happening is now very very small imo. And of course top gear did a skit about speed cameras with someone drunk/on drugs/wanted person etc and of course a speed camera is not useful for that.
Totally agree with you. I rarely go over 80 on daulies or M roads. I'm all about B road bashing for driving fast not speeding. I love a good corner. Following an M135i he was pulling on me in my Focus ST but soon as the curves came I was all over him.
A pet hate is 40 everywhere people. pulling on me/tailgating me in 30s then hold me up/I lose them in 50/60 zones. I rarely cross over lines on corners unless there is a large view ahead. Knowing a time and place is my mindset. I never entertain boy racers unless its a B road.
I've been called a boring driver for not speeding in built up areas or anywhere other than B road then they change their minds and ask me to slow down.

From your description I can understand why you 'pet hate' slower drivers. All I hope is that you don't 'straight line' bends and corners as an oncomimg driver did to me last week. My boy racer days are over and now I'm speed limit or just below. I'm just in no hurry.
Although I generally agree with your analysis of the speed limit, you are on thin ice by simply saying "I'm doing less than 50, they can't do me for that" - they can! Even driving at or below the speed limit can be considered as driving without due care and attention. I hope you noted the Slow markings in the bends...they are not there for nothing. If you would have potentially hit somebody because at 45 you were be pushed into their path, you could quickly find yourself on the wrong end of a due care and attention charge.

Whilst it's a limit and I do drive in a spirited manner....
You can still be prosecuted for driving slower than the speed limit IF the conditions don't allow or make it unsafe to do so.
For instance... would you drive at 30 in a 30, or even 20 in a 30 when the fog is so thick you can't see more than say 5m in front of your car? Prosecutions for going under the speed limit are rare but do happen.
Only adding this as it's a common misconception you "can't be prosecuted" if you drive under the speed limit, which isn't true at all.
I'm in two minds about this comment.
On one hand, I agree 100%. You should drive to the conditions, always.
On the other hand, I'd love to get prosecuted for driving 30 in a 30 because somebody thought the conditions were unsuitable. Easiest case I would ever win :D
@@MickDrivesCarsIn the USA getting ticketed for “driving too fast for conditions” is not unknown. When young I asked a police officer about acceleration. I suggested my top speed is regulated, but how fast I get there isn’t. He said “reckless driving” is a ticket. That said, there are several named roads where the speed limit is intentionally challenging to draw automotive enthusiasts as tourists. The most famous is the Tail of the Dragon. Another is called Back of the Dragon. Both in the Appalachian Mountains. There are many others.

It's down to a magistrate in a case like this, a simple driving without due care and attention is down to a magistrate, or if you opt for a trial in the magistrates court they still decide on your guilt since only Crown Courts have juries and magistrates don't. Magistrates like to convict and it's easier to be convicted (albeit with a lesser sentence or punishment) in a magistrates court than a crown court.
So true man. I feel blessed I live in northern NJ where there are a ton of fun windy roads with high speed limits. Every weekend I go out at midnight and cruise around and its great.
In Italy, the speed limits are ALWAYS waaay below an even slightly uncomfortable speed. Many straight, well maintained and large roads are 50 (km/h, remember), and many inner city roads are 30!! There are even many highways where the speed limit is 90, very sad.

It always comes down to the appropriate speed for the road and conditions. It’s about due care and attention. And not driving recklessly.
A fast car can go fast in a straight line. A good driver can go fast around corners. Fast is of course relative.
I live in the center of italy and i feel so lucky because these types of roads with challenging limits, albeit with questionable asphalt conditions.
Cracking video. I'm in the fortunate position of living in a rural area with A-roads connecting all the towns, so as soon as I'm out of the village, I can bomb around at 50 and just enjoy the bends. Sadly, the almost 20 year old civic I was driving for the past 8 years has just had to go to scrap thanks to the ever creeping rust problem, but that was a perfect car for it. Not so powerful that you had to be tentative, but enough pull that you could drop it to 2nd and have alot of fun.
Driving should be a joyful experience, and when you get onto those lovely twisty roads where you can give it a bit of a prod, it really does feel lovely!
I love doing this with my dad driving, he’s so good at handling the car at speeds. And he’s with the same opinion that he has to be responsible when he’s going faster than other people. This video also made me feel pretty great, I’m a new driver and have been using roads like this to practice how my car handles (it’s just a baby Ford fiesta, but it handles lovely around corners and I love it’s little engine). I always compare myself to my dad and feel lacking, but hearing you talk about the speed makes me feel like I’m doing alright actually!

A new driver should drive slowly for the first 15,000 miles to build experience.
I was an ex driving instructor and was coached by a police instructor,and have coached people to pass their advanced driving test.
I have been driving for 43 years,and some of your advice,and comments show your inexperience.
@@jpldriver I appreciate your feedback, but I know myself and my driving, and I understand this comment that make it seem like I’m going around driving fast and recklessly, but I really don’t. Learning the handling at my car has been done at 40-50mph, on wider more visible roads I’ve managed to stay the speed limit (which I understand isn’t a target, my area tested for appropriate speeds on what are fast roads with no visibility so I feel like I understand this skill), but I’ve managed to learn a lot about gear changes, weight transfer etc that’s helped me improve my day to day driving. I did take further lessons with my instructor after passing to make sure I drove safely in my car. I agree your advice is valid for somebody who may be overconfident, and I can see why you might confuse that with my comment. But I still consider myself learning and I was just expressing that I’ve enjoyed videos like this to make me feel like I’m not a total newbie and I’m driving at a good standard compared to others. I take a lot of responsibility driving because I understand it’s a privilege and I also educate myself about how much speed can kill (I think it should be mandatory to watch high speed traffic collisions for the test, it always makes me think about my speed and the safety of others). I see my comment more as a good attitude to driving as I recognise that I’m still learning and growing. I will take the feedback on board though!

In the US most rural roads that don’t have posted limits is 55-60mph depending on the state. Great tip, that’s exactly what I do. Stay safe guys, get to know the corners and don’t act stupid around blind corners that have driveways and intersections.
We have a section of public road over here in the US called Tail of the Dragon 312 turns in 11 miles When the road sign say 15 mph coming into a corner don't push it or over the edge you go! I took my Miataspeed on the Tail of the Dragon and had a blast!

Hi, new subscriber from The Netherlands. I have the same car as you, but not a RS, but a Manual Edition one. I love this car as you do. It is very forgiving and it - as you say - communicates with you. I have seen about 3 to 4 video's of yours until now, about steering, speed etc. And although I am a conservative driver, I agree with you completely.
My tip to people is, get to know your car, it will take 2 of 3 months, but it has to get to know you too.
About the steering video. Funny, I remembered it this morning on my way to work and back. It made me aware. I discovered that I change my position on the wheel depending on the road. I thought that I never held the wheel on the bottom as you explained, but I did to my own surprise on roads where precision is key. Thank you Mick. Sorry I react on this video about 2 video's.
Bonus points if you drive a car that takes more than a few seconds to reach 60!

Nice one 😃 You have to bear in mind too various cars have different driving characteristics. For example, that Renault Megane R/S that you are driving can do corners a lot better than the average car. Like you said, you have to communicate with the car……… sometimes the car will scream back at you “I can’t do this!!!”

Think you have it completely wrong if I'm being honest. Just because a road has a 60mph limit doesn't mean it's safe to do 60 around a corner that you cannot see around. You have to reduce your speed when entering a limit point, anything could be around a blind corner (horse rider, tractor, pedestrian) it's all good if you have no limit point and can always see around the bend - crack on then
His entire point is that it’s more fun to drive to the speed limit on a road where you have to brake for corners than it is flying down a motorway. You have completely misunderstood the video.
first yes that was the entire point of the video as others have pointed out, but second, yes i've got to admit, he went pretty fast around some of these corners to the point of _looking_ unsafe, at least in my opinion. I'd be scared to go anywhere near that fast as a new-ish and timid driver

Can't the police still get you for general dangerous driving, like entering corners too quickly and rapid acceleration could be considered aggressive, careless or inconsiderate? Even if you are below the speed limit. Like, if me and a police car were at the lights on 40, and I floored it on a green light but stopped at 40mph, I'm sure i'd still get pulled.
Section 59 under the Police Reform Act 2002. You can get a notice put on you for doing stuff like that, get another notice and they'll seize your car. But as long as you aren't being an absolute dick, you'll be fine.
Moced back to canada a few years ago and national speed limit is one of the things i miss most. Being on the twisty backroads on a small bike just really pushing the limits, so much fun

Sorry mate but this is not true. You should always be driving at a speed where you can safely stop in the distance you can see ahead. If you take a blind corner at 50mph and hit a pedestrian, cyclist or any obstruction in the road, you could be charged with driving without due care, or careless or dangerous driving depending on the severity of injury caused. Many people have been prosecuted for going the speed limit but too fast for the situation.
True, police can ticket you for going under the limit and without hitting someone if they deem it reckless. Like drink driving, you could be under the limit but still found guilty of driving under the influence and banned the same way as being over the limit.
Finally someone in comments that’s not thick as shit
You have to drive to the conditions and at speeds which are appropriate to the road/corner and how far you can see ahead. You are spot on. The guy in this video is thinking oh it's 60 so you can technically go 60 around a corner and it's not illegal but if you can't see around said blind bend (eg might be a horse rider in the road on these country lanes) then that's not safe at all. You have to be able to stop in the distance you can see ahead. When I go on these roads and in the right mood to have fun, I always never exceed the speed limit, brake for corners plenty of time ahead, go around at a speed I feel comfortable with and can see far enough ahead but I still have fun in my hatchback.
I definitely can't argue with that. Safety is over all else. Nobody should be driving on public roads in a way that could potentially injure themselves or others. The track is a different story though. The roads are NOT a race track.

in my state you can go 10 above the speed limit if the limit is at or above 55mph, and there's a really good 10 odd mile stretch of road kinda far away from me, but it's two lane, the middle of no where countryside, and during the whole stretch there's usually about 2-3 total cars on my side of the road, it's really good fun to just enjoy myself on it
Exactly. And you can even be as fast, or faster than people who speed excessively on the straight bits, but slow down unnecessarily for turns or roundabouts or what have you - and where they would get a ticket if a cop sees them, you wont because youre not breaking the speed limit.
A sign of an inattentive or unsure driver is people doing 50 in a 40, and 50 in a 60.

Do you even thought what you said? On rural roads are a lot of blind corners, uneven surfaces and pedestrians, cyclist, cars pulling from driveways. Dont drive a car with this attitude or you will kill somebody one day

There's roads local to me that I'm told the police have their new drivers drive without using brakes to learn to keep them smooth, use appropriate gears, and engine breaking. The fun part is challenging your skill. You gota do what Jackie Stewart once said and learn the earliest point on corner exits that you can give it gas and not have to lift again. You also gota learn all your driveways and side roads too.

In France you could be getting a ticket for going "too fast regarding the circumstances", and the meaning of "too fast" is left entirely to the opinion of the police force. I'm surprised there's no such rule in the UK !
We have the same rule but I've been doing this for years and it's never been enforced.
To be honest I think it would be the easiest decision to appeal too.
There’s a road near my house where the limit it 50kmh (+10 over so i go 60) but the turns are sharp and most people only go 40, super fun to go down it at higher speed even if it’s still kinda slow.
binned my car doing about 10mph under the speed limit, learned a lot from it and now drive a lot safer

Yeah, I made a trip around Ireland a few years ago, and I really found the whole national speed limit situation to be wild. It's 100kph there (so about the same in the UK, 60mph), but as a French guy, who is used to a 80kph national speed limit (objectively too low), bruh I was having the TIME OF MY LIFE on those Irish winding roads, and I was only driving a fricking diesel Hyundai i40 rental lol
The B676 and B664 in Leicestershire are some of favourite roads. There are plenty of others in the area.
All Irish country roads are typically 50mph or 80kmh. It's good going up and down speed, learning when to break and when to accelerate for next time you use the road. Some of our 60mph or 100kmh roads are good fun too and require the same thought.

I have a road local to me that I use to have some fun on, I never go over the 60 speed limit and always slow down when I'm going past the more built up bits of it. Safe fun :)

I'm a Canadian, driving licence since 1968, some 'interesting' cars over the decades, now an F56 2019 MINI Cooper S, manual, and, two Harley-Davidson motorcycles.I will tell you your videos are well done, nuanced and lucid, and, that driving in England is a different thing in many respects, two: the high limit allowed on (beautiful) roads I see here - would be half that here, so kudos. Given the nature of our driving (overall) there would be even more accidents, our limits are conservative. The close hedgerow vision limit a bit freaks me out, but then for me it's built in wildlife concerns mostly, (beautiful) deer, moose, bear, porcupine, ...living where I do, now not in a city. Of course on a motorcycle considerably more risks to assess. Even still, in many, many, areas where we have the space, and we have space, speed limit is boringly slow, a danger in its own right.

Hehe it is one of the reasons I love to take out my parents new Aygo Cross, it's so grippy with the Yaris GA-B tail end and drives like a kart at the first three gears. Got a Gen 2 GR Yaris on order, it might have a slim chance of taking the crown of slow speed shenanigans, but I doubt it as the Aygo (any gen really) is king there

In a word "Yes", if the speed was so excessive for other conditions. The posted limit is a limit, but doesn't mean you're exempt from all other traffic laws. Just be sensible and you won't have a problem.
First, let's clarify what 'other conditions' mean. Imagine you're driving on a sunny, dry road with a speed limit that's appropriate for these conditions. A police officer can write you a ticket for anything they want. , but if you challenge it in court, they must explain why your driving was 'reckless.' If the speed limit is 50, will the officer say 'This driver was going too fast around the corner; they were doing 50!' lol
If you live in Queensland Australia, the Moogerah connection road is just like this, 80km/h speed limit with heaps of fun turns and undelations in the road.
G-force on a track has taught me one thing. You can only have so much fun in a straight line, its cornering that takes it to the next level
in Rotherham brinsworth road there is a national speed limit road once im past the little house estate bit i put my foot down if its clear ahead 60 and reduce when i come round to the bend , where cars comout at end round another bend is a 30 mph zone school zone ( 20mph with flashing lights ) its not a long road either, judgement and anticipating well ahead is the key , be in the mindset that anythibg could happen at any moment

I can't remember what the road is called exactly but it's part of the Edinburgh Scenic route over the border from England, that is awesome for this and the most fun I had staying in the limit with many varying weaving corners
You can get done doing 60 in national speed limit as that’s the max but does not mean 60 everywhere only wear it is deemed safe the police can say your being irresponsible around a super tight corner and get done for it.
And they national speed because the road has to many variations you can’t put speed limits everywhere. Or it be 20 40 50 15 60 lol its upto the driver to make his judgement on the speed.
I knew I recognised that road in the start, the crooked mile is a strange road to drive on as it really pushes your limits even at the speed limit. Its a very fun road to drive on especially when it is clear, you do get the occasional person doing 30 in the national speed limit section slowing everyone down but even below the limit its such a great drive to have.
Remember those limit points on bends and corners. You need to be able to easily stop in the distance you can see to be clear !

We just need more tracks or organised closed road courses set up on certain days and it all needs to be at reasonable prices. Two somewhat nearby tracks are between the range of 100-300 pounds for entry which is just too much especially in today’s environment. The government/councils should maybe try doing something to help the price situation.

When I first passed I’d make sure to do the exact speed limit as that’s what I thought I was supposed to do so I’m pretty used to driving around heavy corners at speed 😂
I'm French, and very grateful to be European for that reason. Of course there's the elephant in the room with the autobahn, but I'll argue the most fun is to be had on country roads. France is good at that, but Sweden and especially Norway's mountain roads are an absolute charm. Best places I've ever driven.
It's a real shame the 130kph enforcement is so strict on the Autoroute nowadays, compared to back in the 1990s when if you drove well and your car was in good order, you could get away with going quite a bit quicker, and most people's driving etiquette was better too. Those roads were designed with higher speeds in mind. I wouldn't want to see them totally derestricted, but a 180kph limit in clear weather and light traffic would be great.

There are limits on many stretches of the Autobahn by now, but there's no general speed limit, yes.
Thing is that walking around those corners- should you have to- would be terrifying, especially at night! No pavements or anything! Fun for driving, garbage if you need to ride a bike or walk!

everytime I drive my ep3 and see a National speed limit sign I just smile , especially if it is a new road and room for two cars(if it is just a single lane road I hate it, even tho I got a small car, people drive too quick on these single track roads) , doing the speed limit on some of these B roads can be very challenging and I love it

Maybe it's because I've been driving a long time or something but all of this seems common sense, but it amazes me, how many people don't know this and will have learned lessons from these instructional video's. This year I sold a 170mph 900 sports bike and replaced it with a 60mph Honda Monkey and I enjoy riding it more and don't need half the speed to enjoy it, I've even commuted on a 25mph honda zoomer and given the right back roads and lack of traffic, it's a blast. It took a while for me to realise flatout speed is not the key or the only key to fun, and nor is the more powerful vehicles, they just make it easier (see Initial D lol)
My mission has always been for a complete newbie or "new to spirited driving" viewer to get new information, while seasoned vets like yourself can enjoy watching something that puts words to what they already "felt"...

The fact about speed is that good judgment is more valuable than the speed sign. I live in Italy and people here tend to drive faster than the limits. Why? Are they criminals? Not at all. Our main problem is not fast drivers, but rather drivers who don't use mirrors and indicators.
Fast drivers are not a big concern because it's often completely safe to go 90 in a 70. Speed limits here are determined by the kind of road, rather than the actual road's characteristics. Sometimes it's higher than it should be, other times it's ridiculously lower. There's a road in my area, nearly 20km of straight and wide asphalt, that looks and feels just like a highway. But it's not a highway, ant the limit is 70. People still go 130 on the right lane. Is it dangerous? Not different than an actual highway, to be honest. It's probably more dangerous to go 70 because you'll end up falling asleep.
Romania is full of curvy roads where going to the speed limit is challenging. We have many mountain passes (Mestecăniș, Tihuța, Transfăgărășan, Transalpina etc.) where you can die if you drive a little bit too fast in a tight curve
Okay-, fair, sure, but the moment ANYONE has an accident (at least where I live,) they drop the speed limit by 20 kilometers.
Adelaide has greenhill road (80km/h) after burnside it goes all the way to Lofty Summit! I can barely manage 60km/h
There's a little lane near me that runs off from a little residential estate - It's a single lane road, hedgerows on either side, and it's national speed limit. I haven't even got above 40mph on there without bottling it. Meanwhile a stretch of dual carriageway on the outskirts of town has been put down to 30mph... Absolutely bonkers.

Where I'm from that sign with the three arrows indicating a turn also reduces the speed limit to 30mph (20mph in the cities) so you could technically get pulled over for doing the national speed limit in a turn (although i don't think it happens too often). Isn't there something like this in the UK as well? Also with those hedgerows on the side of the road isn't it dangerous in case there is a cyclist or some other slow moving vehicle in the corner? I've had my fair shares of encounters with horse carriages mid corner and it's definitely not fun
We do have something called ''advisory'' limits before corners or in areas with flooding/slipper conditions - I do generally follow those to be honest but they are only advisory

The two roads, or really, one corner for different roads is a challenge to go the speed limit... here is is thing, one of the corners I kinda already mastered since i basically live on it, and then the other one has people constantly on it.
Mick, you should do a night run. Fast driving through UK roads, maybe some motorway driving at 70mph, pulls, shots of your car, minimal or no commentary with light background music!

@1:13 I was once pulled over by a cop who was behind me as I took a turn like that at 55MPH. I live in Pennsylvania, USA and the law states that any road that does not have a posted speed limit, is 55 unless it is in a residential area. The area I was in, was a two-lane painted line paved road much like the one you're driving in the video. I took a rather sharp turn, and a couple miles up, the cop pulls me over and gives me a warning that he felt I was driving "recklessly" and that I "almost lost control of my car" (which I didn't, zero sliding and it didn't feel like I was about to slide whatsoever) and the road was perfectly dry and there was nobody coming in the other lane.
Warning has no consequence right? Dude just had a grumpy day lol
This reminds me of roads in Kashmir or Gilgit, it's the same they have high speed limits such as 60-80kmh LTV but the corners are damn dangerous for beginners or people unaware of those roads and require great practice and skill.

You totally get it, The types of driver that think doing 120+ on A and Duals usually cant drive for shit. Im just hoping the hood stigs dont see this and decide to drive like asshats and crash at the first whiff of a braking zone , causing these roads to become 30s

I agree to this video and it's too bad when they decide to lower that legal speed on that road. Here in Ireland / Northern Ireland there is a lot of fun legal roads and on some of them speed limit is dropped by 20kph (~13mph) which is not a lot, but it makes those roads a lot more boring to drive on.
This is what I do everyday. A country road, national speed, lots of villages and corners, leading up to the farm I am visiting. This is where I push my skills to the limit. Family asks, why do you drive there everyday. I say "I am learning". But you know how to drive, and I say I am learning my car 😆 I AM 65...
