  • Rebaling large round hay bales into small square bales using a Hustler bale unroller into a John Deere 338 baler square baler. Video describes the tractor, bale spear, Hustler bale unroller or bale feeder, round bale yields for 4x4 and 4x5 round bales, hay wagons, square baler, and setup to run a rebaling operating. This is a general overview of the equipment and operation needed for a farming operation or farming business. There are many different systems on the market that convert round bales into square bales. A stand alone unit for rebaling is the most cost effective unit for the average hay producer or farmer needed to produce small square bales.

Thjere are quite a few Folks on this platform that Re-bale.... Probably the biggest is Farmer Insider, We Were pushed into the Hay business by a land owner, we were renting land to plant Cotton and peanuts.......Who wanted to change renters, and liked the way my Son operated... We eventualy stopped cotton and peanuts sold or swapped that equip or Hay equipment and in the process bought a complete re-baling business, Simpson tables, 5070 NH baler, Bale Bandit, Movable loading ramp, Some Enclosed Trailers and Supply Contracts to 2 TSC stores..... That was 6 years ago.... We changed out the baler, and bundler bought more trailers, and added 4 more stores......B/4 We purchased the Complete used system we considered the Hustler.....

Rebaling has been very positive for me in my operation even at small scale. Glad to hear of other success stories.

@@BradKemp62 This is our maybe 5th year rrebaling..... It was slow and tedious the first tears, But mechanical changes to prmary equipment has made it possible for two people to convert 4x5 rounds into small squares and load 38---21 bundles into a 53ft enclosed trailer in 2 1/2 to 3 hours.......awaiting a call for delivery....... Almost 50,000 bales sold in 2023..... That is not counting rounds sold .......

You must be doing this on a full-time basis. I do this part-time but I currently run it by myself. I make it a often as I need it. I sell to my regular customers and when I advertise I need to kick it up into gear. I just keep the small local farms and horse owners with hay. Plus I make it for myself which is a cost saver.

The whole operation is My Son's, He works 10 hour days at a Fossil Fuel Power generating station, Has for the last 34 years, He Has come home and baled as many as 10 bundles by himself before dark.... or climbed in a OTR truck and delivered a loaded trailer to a TSC and brought the empty home by midnight.... and be to work by 7 am the next morning..... He always says he can be out worked,......... nut you're going to be Tired

I would think an electric motor on the bailer would cut cost both in initial investment and operating but I could be wrong

Some guys have a stand alone diesel motor. I no idea if an electric motor would work. Even if it did you would need to completely change the hydraulics on the bale unroller also. That would make it pretty pricey I would think. Just my thoughts.

@@BradKemp62 if that unroller runs off a remote of the tractor a simple belt drive pump on the electric motor that runs the pto for the bailer

Northern tool offers 1 with an electronic clutch so you could turn it off and on without any valving or added complexity you could also add and easy to wire e-stop for the hydraulics

It seems as if some sort of electric set up would be more efficient in the long run. I am not sure about the details, but I am sure that someone else has already figured it out somewhere.
