    Hanging the cable like that looks terrible... Just make a tiny cutout on the shelf just where the cable goes into the fixture, then route the cable on top of the shelf instead where you cannot see it.

    • @MonkeyMD3
      @MonkeyMD3 Před 3 lety

      I think the reason he did that is that's a usable shelf and you are more likely to damage it by putting things on the shelf than if it is run underneath like he did. Agreed though that it would be nice to have a more appealing wiring solution. Maybe IKEA could have a specific shelf with a groove for the wiring.

    Is there a trick to doing this if your wardrobes are installed wall to wall (i.e. with no spaces on the sides of the wardrobes), and a very small gap between the top and the ceiling)? Or should lighting be installed before installing the cabinets in this case? Thank you!

    • @rhitrix
      @rhitrix Před 4 lety +2

      I'm currently doing my own closet. It's a large walk-in. All PAX. Corner pieces, both short-hang and long-hang, both deep and shallow cabinets, lots of drawers and trays, lots of shoe storage, etc. It's about 45 linear feet of PAX closet cabinets. The ceilings in my closet are just about 8-feet high, which leaves about 3-4 inches above the PAX cabinets once they're stood up. Every single shelf has Norrfly lighting. I had an electrician come in and install dual outlets at the top of each wall, connected to the light switch to the room, so that when I flip on the closet lights, all the IKEA lighting also turns on (once plugged in). Once my wife decided where she wanted all the shelves, drawers, etc., I came in and installed each Norrfly LED strip. The cable is routed under the shelf to a small drilled hole in the back just under the shelf. The cable is taped to the shelf using a matte white tape, so you can't see it (i.e., it blends in). I've debated sawing a shallow channel into the IKEA shelves to nest the cable into the shelf and taping over that so it's completely flush. That's still TBD. Once the cable goes out the back of the cabinet, I pull it over the top and to the front where I make all the connections. Once that is done, I zip-tie cables and then put everything on top of the cabinets toward the back. It's out of sight but still accessible if necessary. Good luck!

    Would you recommend installing the lights before the sliding doors?

    • @PPFlatPack
      @PPFlatPack  Před 3 lety +1

      You can do it before or after doors no obstructions there. If you attaching the wardrobe to the wall install lights before that. So possibly before doors for easier positioning less weight on the wardrobe without the door if you need to move little from the wall just to take wires out from the back of the wardrobe.

    Great advert not to buy IKEA. If you are going to bother to install lighting in your wardrobe at least try to do a decent job of it. Wires hanging everywhere for you to see and for clothes and hangers to snag. The diffuser on the lights doesn't do a decent job and the lighting is no uniformed, so you get that patchy LED strip bright/dull running all the way along. Apart from that, great video
