She wasn’t even meant to be performing on this show as she had still not recovered from her latest bout of pneumonia & had been advised by the doctor not to sing.
I know this information now but not at time of recording... so even more amazing that someone can achieve that level of vocal in recovery! thanks for watching :)
@@BritPopsReact After she married (she was 20 years old) she had cancer. After that she had 8 pneumonia. After this performance she took 18 month to recovery for her physical damage. Sorry my English I'm Japanese 😁
Don't know if you realize this but So Hyang does all the arrangements with her husband and a few others including full orchestration and vocal background singers. You've come to the right position and score.!! 😊
I’ve just noticed on the comments that tomorrow’s choice is ‘lean on me’ (in front of Michael Bolton himself). All I can say is hold on tight to anything that isn’t fastened down!!!!

This song's composer, Rolf Løvland, saw this video and praised the video, saying that he was very moved by her song. And he promised to give her his own new song.

The arrangement is a masterpiece (she does her own with her team), that vocals are mind blowing (as always), the performance was simply stunning. And all this whilst recovering from pneumonia. She is truly next level. Thanks for the reaction.

This master class performance. Is even more impressive, given the fact that So Hyang is not well here. Some time prior to this event, she was released from the hospital, still recovering from one of her numerous bouts with pneumonia (eight times between 2016 - 2018). Her doctors advised her to cancel her performance, not speak at all, and to just rest. So Hyang indicated she did not want to disappoint the audience, and performed. She believed this performance would be the end of her singing career, and just went for it.. The song took it's toll on her voice. Afterwards, she disappeared for more than a year.
When she returned from her long hiatus, So Hyang has proven her vocal technique to be rock solid. 2020 to present day, she sounds better than ever.
Sohyang is such a trooper! Almost everything she does is live, which is a great fear for the vast majority of singers. But Sohyang always nails it, such that people have mistakenly concluded that she is just lip syncing. But that is _never_ the case. She is simply the best female singer on the planet. She sits down and does all of her arrangements with her in law family and certain musical assistants in her entourage. The result is musical genius. 🤷♂️💘😮👍👌😎
You finally caved to Sohyang's singing...LOL. Just kidding, but it's satisfying to finally see the 10. This arrangement is such a masterpiece. Her delivery is simply flawless. I should mention that this song tells her personal story, presumably her faith.
That's Shane Filan all right. This episode is Shane Filan Special. As you know, Westlife also sang this piece and had a hit.
Bloody hell... Every time I listen to Sohyang I have to go and have a lie down afterwards! :) By the way, after hearing this Shane graciously conceded that this was the best ever rendition of this song!

I believe her father in law and mother in law sit in on the arrangements, as well. And a number of her musical associates, too! Her father in law is her manager and their entire family are very musical and get along like pees in a pod. Which is so nice to hear of in this day and age. Sohyang's sister in law is the guitarist for DNCE, an offshoot of the Jonas Brothers. 💘

Sohyang and her co arrangers did a brilliant job in turning a great song that has been over sung by every singer on the planet into something completely new and fresh. She is truly a great singer with a musical brain to match

Also Sohyang was recovering from one of her many bouts of pneumonia.
This series is just spectacular. Thanks for featuring Sohyang. She always surprises and delights. She is instrumental in the arrangements for all of these stage performances, so you are seeing her talents on display in many more ways than one. she has much more musicality. i suggest mona lisa, misty, if i aint got you, i will always miss you, fate, day day if you wanna see other aspects of her like rock, jazz, acoustics, blues, Korean traditional music, even rapping.
Westlife (and Boyzone, actually) had some really good stuff. I never liked their generic boy band stuff, but now and again they brought out something out of the norm. My hubby loves punk and ska etc, but he bought albums from both these bands.
This was once again a beautiful assault on my ears. I bet seeing her live would shake your soul. Awesome stuff.

Sohyang has no social media, no channel, only fan channels. Her performances can be found on KBS, MBC , JTBC and other Korean broadcasters and she does have single songs and some albums for sale, but she remains an independent artist due to her health and her faith. They have tried to sign her, she turns them down. She turned Sony down again in 2020.

Sohyang is known as the queen of belting but she has beautiful soft colors.

Kim, So Hyang has always struggled with her health during her lifetime with those many illnesses..
uterine cancer, hepatitis, chronic pneumonia, etc.. The night she sung You Raise Me Up
She just got out of Hospital and was advised Not to sing...
So she did this..at the cost of 10 day in hospital...EVEN SHE admitted
This Almost ended Her Singing Career
It's really a miracle this one of the most skilled vocalist of all time could be
in such poor condition. And definitely she is much more than great technician
and has Perfect Control of Her Gift...and Her singing is so special.
So Being a Cancer survivor And still gets sick from Time to time. But is an Amazing Artist
who gave up a Kpop career to sing for the Lord and for the Love of Music instead of stardom.
She learned English as a Child from Disney Movies, which inspired her to Write two of her
Books...(both Published and there are more).
Also And Publicly thanks Mariah Carey for teaching her everything she Knows about Music ...

She is the best I have ever heard in my lifetime, she is amazing and a heart of gold! Her vocals and performances touch your soul. Love your marathon 👍. I would suggest " Fate ", Hug Me, anything in the Begin Again Korea series, it really shows her vocals as is cut back with only a few instruments. Anything she does is EPIC.

If you like when an artist re-arrange a song then definitely do Sohyang's version of "Lean on Me" which Michael Bolton has sung before and is one of the judges in the audience just like here with Shane West. PS: it's was nice Sohyang finally received a "10" but not really important.:) I know you do just for fun but fandoms often use your scores to compare artists, especially when they have sung the same song before, as you have already noticed from the feedback in your comment section. I personal think it's best to avoid such grading of artists, because sometimes it can inadvertently and indirectly compares singers without intentions. BTW Brit Pops, the Irish lyricist for "You Raise Me Up," Brendan Graham, got in touch with the Irish embassy in Seoul, South Korea after he saw this performance and had them track Sohyang down to tell her this was the most beautiful rendition of the song he had ever witnessed. And Shane Filan told Sohyang this was his new favourite performance of it. Pretty high praise indeed!
