Highlights as Teófilo Stevenson becomes the first boxer to win a Gold medal in the same division three times after defeating Pyotr Zayev of the USSR in the final during the Moscow 1980 Olympic Games.
Stevenson began his Olympic career at the 1972 Munich Games. At the previous year's Pan American Games, Stevenson had been defeated by Duane Bobick of the United States. This time he met Bobick in the quarterfinals and stopped him in the third round. Stevenson's semifinal victim, Peter Hussing of Germany, said, "I have never been hit so hard in all my 212 bouts. You don't see his right hand. All of a sudden it is there - on your chin." Stevenson's opponent in the final forfeited because of a broken thumb.
In 1976, Stevenson disposed of his first three opponents in a record 7 minutes and 22 seconds. In the final, Mircea Simion of Romania managed to make it to the third round before his handlers threw in the towel.
In the semifinals of the 1980 Olympics, István Levai of Hungary ran around the ring for three rounds to become the first Olympic boxer to go the distance against Stevenson. By defeating Pyotr Zayev of the USSR in the final, Stevenson earned his third gold medal. As late as 1986, he proved that he was still the best amateur boxer by winning the world championship at the age of 36.

In 1972 he (Teofilo) would have been 20..could have been pro at this time..throw him in the mix with Ali,Foreman,Frazier, Young,Ellis,Norton,Lyle,Shavers,Holmes,Quarry..this was a golden age of heavy Weights and would have been even better with Stephenson in the mix..

The olympics are not kids, you are wrong,Teofilo was Olympic Champion with 19, he was a boy and he get the Val Baker trophy in that moment and knockout everybody in this games something never seen until that moment.Stevenson with 19 was better than Ali 19.Stevenson was the most fabulous olympic ever.Ali did not get this like an Olympic boxer.Ali was a normal Olympic nothing sensational.Stevenson knockout 9 of 12 fighter record until today.Knockout in Olympics is almost impossible by the quality.

Foreman said he'd be world champion if he went pro. Not sure how he was mechanical??? Stevenson vs Holmes would have been interesting. Holmes was a dominant champion but he never fought anyone with Stevensons talent during his reign. Stevenson looked exceptional. He moved like Holmes but had faster and harder hitting hands. Only question mark is stamina cause he only fought 3 two minute rounds. Very diffeent to the 15 round world championships of the day. In amateur Stevenson hands down but impossible to predict as a pro cause we never saw him in that world.
