GPU sag kills cards.
When the ATX standard was developed in 1995, they didn't envision dual / triple / quad slot 3kg bricks.
Which is why when I went to a 4070Ti I bought a gpu bracket well for that and I manage to lose my locking tab as it popped out with the factory oem gpu.
ive had and seen much much worse.. sag doesnt kill cards, physical abuse does
Bro that card is only a few years old. And furthermore that PC was spotless with zero dust. Even if they were abusing the PC, it would take a few more years before a card dies. In fact cyrpto mining cards are usually fine years later. @@BelowAmbient
@@BelowAmbient No? Tell that to solder microcracks due to bent PCBs.
most decent motherboards nowadays have reenforced pcie slots for heavy gpus
So wild fix or flop went from "We can't replace an RX 580" during the shortage to "Here's a top tier card".
Greg is wild bruh like a random card puller from time to time
The CZcamsrs are giving away expensive cards again. Nature is healing. lol
These newer gen cards are not selling like hot cakes, so there is a lot of spare inventory for the AiB's to give cards to people like Greg for marketing purposes
Even if there's no visible cracks, with so much weight pulling it, the card most likely flexed and some solder joints cracked, or, even worse, some solder pads got ripped out underneath the GPU and/or memory dies.
Yet another example to remind anyone watching this, do NOT ship/transport your PC with the GPU installed, always remove it first!
100% this
can confirm, when i didn't know much about pcs, i took mine fully installed on a transatlantic flight and it arrived broken
Had a buddy move to Colorado from Oklahoma and had his 2080 ti still inside his rig. He found out the hard way that you don't do that, lol. Card was bricked upon him setting up his PC. Was gonna post the same thing about not having your GPU installed during transport!
Yeah, while Expanda-Pack can be used safely for ITX & smaller 2 fan models for these new 3 fan HUGE COOLER cards packing seperate is the way to go
@@shaneeslick Was gonna say, used to remove the gpu + ship separately; now I just use insta-paks. Haven't had any issues.
I wasn't ready for that intro. 🤣
I'll drink to that.
Repairing it for free is more than enough and upgrading him to a 4070 is just amazing IDK why people complain about you not upgrading non broken things.
Hey Greg - the jumping in front of the camera bit and saying "hey" at the beginning was pretty freaking funny! Thank you for that!
Easily amused I see.
@@randysalsman6992Me too. I can play with a plastic bag for hours. You can admit that you laughed at it too. It's okay. 😂
I agree. Nobody is perfect and I enjoy when a creator keeps a bad take in the video. Jays 2 Cents is famous for it.
send the card to northwestrepair
Even wanted to write the same 😅
Great idea he repair all of my broken gpus
Why not Nrf?

THE GREATEST TECHNICIAN THATS EVER LIVED
As a guy who has watched every episode of fix or flop religiously I love how you always show the basic clear cemos function like if any day in the future if I have a problem I can just click on any fix or flop video and it will help mad respect to you
I was thinking about something... Just for sanity check, if you want and can do, try flashing a fresh bios onto the videocard, the 3070ti (for people not knowing, you can do it even if the card in question is not the primary card of the system)
+1
So he ended up with a free new card that is twice as powerful? Not bad :D
not me hoping the next problem i have i cant fix
yup that's a critique he gets from time to time. I mean I have a 2070 super, so I could destroy the card and get my dream upgrade (4070 ti super) aswell, right? But honestly it's his decision. I just hope that the problems are legit and nobody made that up.
@@RaimaNd judging by how the "viewer" wrote that letter to Greg, either English isn't his first language or he's a younger viewer and I would assume he isn't some mastermind who can screw up a GPU without showing any signs of messing with the GPU
@@RaimaNd I mean he gets content and views and gives away one GPU sometimes. I see it still as a win-win.
He could also do that off cam and say he can't fix it and still give the guy that card?
I get where the critique comes from and I was searching in this comments for exactly this but I also think this is a nice way to give back to the community from time to time.
PC DC is on hold? Those series really relaxed me. Watching a dirty PC transform.
Huge upgrade. People in the comment section only think Greg does upgrades, but I've seen plenty of videos where he downgrades the GPU/CPU because he doesnt have a upgrade or he doesnt want to upgrade.
Sounds like a job for North West Repair!
wow that guy got a slick upgrade happy for him.
wow dude you are the goat, viewer has a 3070 and you upgrade them to a 4070Ti Super. Hot damn.
Don't give him to much praise, it's just a tax write off for him.
@@randysalsman6992jealous much?😂😂😂
@@randysalsman6992 = /
That poor little 120mm radiator! Great job, Greg.
I saw that and was like 240 or 360 please.
Would be a great collab video if ya sent the broken card to northwestrepair for diagnosis.
That 4070 Ti Super is worth more than my whole PC. That's one lucky soul getting that rig back. I really need to upgrade. At least she still runs! I can't believe how solid these old systems were. Build something in 2009, upgrade through the years, and it still runs in 2024! I really like the way that TUF Gaming card looks. I don't know why. Maybe the glowy RGB helps? That little thing to prop up the card is a nice touch. I'm glad it was such a simple solution, if expensive. I had to replace my RX560 some years back. It was when even that was going for $200 used due to the crypto mess. So it can really be rough. Glad you were able to get it working again! Greg, you rock.
That is a BEAST of an upgrade! Lucky guy! 👌
Thanks for these videos, Greg! I built my first custom PC in 2012 and i was a nervous wreck. My cable management was bad, I made some mistakes in the build initially that was a miracle it didnt cost me to replace the parts. I have since replaced parts over the years to stay fairly modern, so I have gotten some practice, but I have also seen a lot of your videos and they have really given me the confidence to do PC building.
Just two weekends ago Inactually built my wife a new PC from the ground up. No stress, no anxiety, no mistakes this time. These videos of yours were a big part of that.
"RGB has been addressed". I see what you did there lol.
Best repair channel on CZcams hands down
Then you don't know many repair channels because he is very low on the totum pole, like bottem 3.
bro doesn't repair them he just replaces parts that don't work lol
Great job on the fix - Nice video. Looking foward the next video in the series.
That sag made me wonder if the pcie socket was damaged, which, I assume, would have been a cheaper problem to solve (or would have, if you didn't have that other, better, card knocking around).
Loved your videos & i enjoy seeing you helping out PC owners. Hopefully can try and get that gpu repaired
Also, see if Northwest Repair can fix that 3070? He'll make a fun video out of it too!
I enjoy seeing you work on PCs. I have been working with various forms of computers since the early 80s. I have built many and programmed many more.
The shipping combined with the sag likely caused a short on the card. Good news is the short is likely fixable without too much effort if you know how.
are you going to tell us how magnus.
@@tsu2613 Send it to a professional be it northwestrepair or northridge fix. The finding of the short is not hard but most of us don't have the parts to repair it. Unless you have donor card some parts are impossible to get.
While I agree it's likely due to card sag, I'd venture to say it's more than likely a break in the circuit as a opposed to a short. Possibly due to be a broken solder or trace.
@@0verload Certainly possible there a broken trace under the core. Normally not seen on the older lighter cards but it also greatly depends on the maker. I highly doubt there a board issue as it shows no sign or bend or damage.
IF it can be found ...
great video, looking forward to seeing what you're gonna do with that card
I'm new to pc and I know absolutely nothing. But I have learned so much from your videos. I want to build me a high-end pc so learning as much as I can.. thank you for all you do...
LOL RGB has been addressed 🤣
I'm so glad someone finally picked up on that joke :-)
@@GregSalazar It's in the realm of IT Dad jokes 😁
Now that was a beautiful replacement. The owner will surely be thrilled.
Thanks for learning with us
"Most people don't just have a bunch of GPUs laying around"
*glances over at the kitchen GPU that's been in my kitchen for a month because I have no idea what to do with it*...
super upgrade. moving to fl for a month now.
nice upgrade for fixing his rig... lucky Sir Greg is so generous for changing his/her graphics card... God Bless Sir Greg...
Greg, you should mention the fan curve the the person when you e-mail them that the rig is ready and ask him if they would like for youth adjust them. Not when you’re dropping it off.
Also, is it possible you could do a video about how to adjust fan curves (if you haven’t already)?
Another great video Greg! You are very generous and I can't believe people give you a hard time about anything you fix or don't fix on a system. Keep doing what you do and I will keep watching and giving you the THUMBS UP! Nice
I don't know how many people in the comments said about the same thing but not realize why he does it. He doesn't do it out of the kindness of his heart, he does it because it's a tax write off, plain and simple.
Every time you re explain things ever video it helps new people still engage without feeling lost outright
Thanks for the video! BTW what watch are you wearing?
Love this series!
What a gift and heck of a rig
That was very kind, greg ❤
I had one of those exact cases briefly during the GPU shortage and the airflow isn't as bad as you would think.
Great video Greg
Would love to see a follow up video of you attempting to fix the 3070Ti using the "unorthodox method" you mentioned! 😊
I bet the Memory or the GPU Die are starting to peel away from the Substrate. GPU Sag can cause the side of the Card that is Plugged into the Motherboard to start to bend enough to lift some of the Pads. Heating it with a Heat gun might work but if it did no idea how long. Good to have a Support Bracket on Large Cards
Yeah. My old 1660ti was the first card that sagged enough to notice. When I got my 3070ti, I just decided to go vertical and call it a day.
That gpu SAG LIKE A BOSS!!!
That is a nice system and another great fix or flop video.
Great Upgrade 👍
8:53 - just had a 2080ti killed over time through a lack of thermal paste coverage to one part of the core - leading to the memory controller frying itself , and artifacts/bsod under load. The thermal paste coverage here looks even worse than my example tbh so this might be what's killed the card.
Nope.
@@randysalsman6992 How do you know? Seem very sure about that...
Very nice upgrade.
One more thing i would have done is to turn the top fans as exhaust. there is a lot of air coming in but the hot air wont escape the case because it is being pushed downwards from the top fans. the 1 exhaust fan on the back is not enough. Tried this exact configuration on my rig and it raised the overall temperatures of the system under load.
Oh Greg, what a good guy👍❤
I also got a spare beastly GT710 to ensure video output whatever happens ^^
i have an issue with my PC not yet existing, and i dont live in Florida but i enjoy this series. thanks for making it.
"This is a z690 ddr4 motherboard so it has to be 12th or 13th gen"; Or 14th gen refresh. They work just fine on most z690 chipset's with just a bios update.
Talk about a "Cautionary Tale" and thanks for the fixes listed in the comments!
You know that monopoly card "bank error in your favor"? This guy got a shipping error in his favor basically.
Reading that letter I’d bet money that that kid breaks this system somehow within the month. Awesome of you upgrading his card like that though.
The YETI sticker, lol.... my nephew slapped one of those on my laptop too.
I keep a GTX 1050 hanging around for this very same reason! It's an easy card to swap so if there is a problem that's an easy way to narrow things down. Also keep a very small kit of DDR4 around too for the same reason.
Either I dreamed this episode or it’s been on you’re fix or flop before 😂either way still love watching these
I’ll never stop learning with Greg Salazar.
had the same sag issue on my old motherboard, everything survived but my x670e extreme was dead, before that was having major issues with crashing and black screen problems, replaced the motherboard and have a gpu support brace for my gpu, everything is working a treat. RIP old board
good luck with the heating method. I wouldn't expect that to work as it would appear from their message this was damage from shipping which likely wouldn't be fixed by reflowing solder probably some chip tore off .
The creek of your chair always spooks me. I'm like "ITS ARCING! TURN IT OFF! RUN AWAY!"
I live for this series! (Not literally)
Awesome Easy Fix & Bonus GPU Upgrade for the Client = Win Win !!
love the intro lmao. Greg is so goofy😂😂
*looks at my 3080 from gigabyte* yes I'm jealous. great work Greg!
Comment to help the algorithm. Gotta love when Greg uploads a fix or flop.
wow!!!! that a huge upgrade.....but yeah nothing can be proceed once the gpu death...good job
Oh that's the msi with the known cracking issue on the pci connector
Yeah, that's a SERIOUS upgrade. :D
Hope you'll somehow get the 3070 back to life again though.
10:23 it looked like up at the top of the board middle left hand side the traces going up to the pci slot look to have a slight line across them maybe indicating a subsurface crack in the inner layers of the PCB. more accurately above the top left mounting hole for the gpu cooler. with the size and weight of gpus today if possible always ship outside the system to avoids this also large tower coolers too
Top fans set to intake, surprised you didn't flip them around.
What an absolute generous lad you are Greg.
The bit at the beginning where you got in front of the camera had me laughing hard xD
Looking forward to the next video :D
First off, he does that for tax write off purposes and second how is something that cringe inducing make you laugh?
@@randysalsman6992 Jealous much... you sure sound like it. Go get a life...
NICE upgrade dam
Hello Greg..have you thought about using your cheapo card in the system as well. Using the cheapo card for display out and discover if the defective card is detected by windows and then perhaps flash its bios?
You really need a GN Modmat Greg!
Always a good day when Greg pops up!
That guy is gonna be so happy! 3060 to 4070 Ti super! Omg that’s beautiful! ASUS TUF looks like a steel fortress. Excellent video!!
Great trouble shooting!
Love these videos
best online series!
same thing happened to a 1080ti in a pc i was sent by someone years ago
always make sure to at least put expanding packaging inside the case to prevent it moving
greg u should do a live stream of one of these!! would be super cool
another banger from my fav youtuber
Much appreciated!
Thank you for the Senna helmet Greg
Heck yeah! More Fix or Flop!
Graphics cards really have gotten way too heavy for the mounting solution. Even my "little" 4060Ti wants to sag. I know some cases have such hardware, but wondering when the bigger cards will demand or include extra support feet.
The pads under the core and memory are probably ripped from the pcb. I wouldn’t try to re flow it. Send it to a repair person like northwest repair
viewer is prolly a pretty happy chap, nice upgrade - always sad to see hardware die :( that system sounds a bit like mine - i am not really happy with the noise of my pc but i am not savvy enough to make it quieter :D
Just wear headphones when using the PC, pretty easy fix.
Thanks!
Greg, i am very surprised that trying a new port like DP was not the first thing you did. It is about as basic as clearing CMOS. I don't use integrated graphics, but i always get a CPU that includes IG. If the card takes a dive, I can still use the PC and it is very helpful in troubleshooting.
We don't show everything on camera - or in order, for that matter.
Another point(s) I'd say the top fans need to exhaust rather than intake, and the AIO needs turning 90 degrees.
Sometimes it be like that, good work.
Time for another episode of the Greg Salazar Touch!
p.s that's a very generous upgrade , was thinking you'd stick in a 3080ti or similar you'd have lying around! (especially that his previous 3070ti has not enough VRAM for modern gaming IMO).
Ive been lucky since starting pc gaming in 2017 that I havent had a major problem with any iterations or upgrades of my build.
Started it all on the i7-7700k and a GTX 1080 moved to the i9-9900k and 2070 Super to a i7-12700k currently and a 3070ti til I get a new case to fit a 4090 in
Have always had atleast 32gb of ddr4 ram. Currently have 64gb 3600 cl16 ddr4 and a 1300w psu.
Used a 750w and 850w prior upgrade paths. PC gaming has evolved significantly over the years in terms of hardware, hardware debugging, and prices. Thats what makes it fun tho and watching these videos is always a blast.
