It was developed as the screen for a battery testing instrument for manufacturers. It's very useful for DIY batteries. Splice cables or a pass through cable would make it more useful.

Does this voltage display require any battery harness to read the cells of an 18S2P 21700 40T NMC battery pack?

You can´t get the same functionality from a good Smart BMS? Monitoring and logging, Bluetooth or cable to laptop or phone/tablet. Other than the much lower price the most important difference is being able to balance the cell groups with a push of a button. Both passive and active balancing.
If you use it for ONE battery then maby some will like to have a smart BMS. We repair batteries and must check the voltage of cells groups fast. However you will only buy/build a smart BMS battery ONCE! The BT is always on on all smart BMS i know of and it will kill the battery if you do not use it all the time and forget and charge it for a few weeks, have seen a 20S12P panasonic battery drain completely in a few years due to a smart BMS.

Battery Doctor, I need your help. I have a battery that is visibly losing voltage. Like when you connect a multimeter you can see it go 56.7..56.6...56.5...56.4. it's a 52v 21Ah 14s6p Samsung 35e cells.
