Loved hearing your story! It's so nice to see and hear about other people going through this journey to making a game! It all really resonated with me!

Thank you for opening up, I started my game dev journey last december, working on the art of my first game, a top down 2d game about me and my friends in our student residence, and I hope to release it by the end of this year, or have most things done. One can easily fall in that perfectionism loophole that doesn’t take you anywhere. I’ll take the advice.

I had a very similar experience to you, very early on I thought I was the only one who could bring my idea to life and to certain extent that is true cause your experiences and games you played fuel your creativity. But once I started collaboration with a good friend I trusted I found it much more liberating to having to figure out every little detail about things he just knew more of. This also made me more open minded and more trusting of others cause the perfect game doesnt exist and trying to tackle it alone will make it way harder. Thanks for sharing your story keep up the great work!

Very inspiring, thanks for sharing your story. My first game was also a Game Jam game. It was a disaster; broken, unfinished, and just bad. But it got me into game jams and we've finished a good 6 or 7 games now for those jams. No big commercial game yet, still working on it!

Nice! That is fantastic to hear. I think that’s the key to game dev success, flexing the muscles! Thanks for being here.

congrats👍 The first and only game I've finished so far was for someone else... I think you don't just make games for yourself but for other people. Games are no fun completely alone. games are a way to communicate with each other.

I've been doing GameDev for over 30 years at this point. I've finished two projects. I have hundreds unfinished. I didn't publish the two I did finish because alot of corners were cut with one to get it finished, and the other just wasn't great overall, so I did not feel they were good enough to publish when it came down to it. One of them was from early on when I was still a teen and uses alot of 'stolen' assets too, so I wouldn't necessarily feel comfortable publishing it anyway - especially since now my own art skills are good enough now, that I know I'd be upset if someone took them and used them without crediting me. Would not do unto others as I would not want done unto me.
I have actually recently been entertaining the idea of maybe going back to it and replacing all the art with original assets though. That might be a way forward for that 20+ year old project. Would be alot of work though, it was fairly sizable.
Point in case, I know exactly what you mean about a bit of that imposter syndrome and not feeling happy with putting anything out there that you don't feel is perfect enough. We're often our own worst critics. It's something I know I need to work on if I ever actually want to get something finished and out there properly though; The art of realising when something is "good enough". Maybe I'll get there one day.

It's great to hear your perspective on the challenges of game development. Perfectionism can definitely hold us back sometimes, if we're not careful. Thanks so much for being here, keep it up!

    Great to hear your story!
I messed up once when entering Epic MegaJam few years ago. I had somewhat working prototype that was ready for submission, but for some weird reason I misunderstood timer that was on Jam submission page. I thought it's counting towards midnight my time, but in reality it was 9pm deadline. Needless to say that when I got to my PC to make small bugfixes and submit before midnight I was kind of baffled with my stupidity. Also: I've spent waay to much time working on 3D model for in-game vehicle, that was hardly ever visible :D

IÂŽm doing all alone. ItÂŽs have your pros and cons. You need lucky to find some you to work with you that fits well or it can be a hell worst than work alone.. but no doubt is heavy and needs a lot of love to build a game and after all handle the critcs that ever come. What I think its help to stand up and continue is when you got some money cause we without pay the bills the project has to be freeze.
