    Being able to sight-line something is a good skill to develop, and it just takes practice. What this means is, as you're walking around a job site, just eye down walls to see if they're straight or not. The more you do it, the easier it becomes.

    So it was to be covered anyway, why put the plywood? Also planers don't like nailheads much so bring your nail set.

    I wish framming paid the same as forming. I'd love the work that goes in to framming houses but here in Louisiana a framer makes about 19 to 21 an hour. I make 29 as a b craft form carpenter.

      I believe a lot of us workers are being paid low. I found an old pay stub from 19 years ago, and then checked on what the COLA rates were going back that far. What a shocker.

    I always tell young guys to really watch the kitchen walls. It really sucks to have the cabinets rocking on a hump in the wall, or having to sand scribes all day. Also make sure your backers and nailers are in place, and triple check the kitchen window placement with the cabinet layout......

    +MrMixmasterslick It's not an axe hammer. It's a drywall hammer/hatchet. Some framers do use them, especially when it's the right tool for the job.

  • @anthonystutz9729
    @anthonystutz9729 Před 5 lety

    It's a friggin riggin ax the strike face is close to the handle and the head itself is shaped to have more weight to that side making it focus the power into the nail and the blades good for pooping open bundles of lumber and if you're a framer and pull allot of nails then you're a poor framer

  • @MrMixmasterslick
    @MrMixmasterslick Před 13 lety

    what w axe hammer? no framer uses that, straight claw

    Now this wasn't as bad as some " Instructional " videos put out by Delbert the Framer .. I personally crown in on exterior walls .. Easier to push out and sister than pull in .. But then again throw that concept out the window when the nail banger and his helper picks lumber out of the bunk that is determined to be a propeller for The Titanic .. with the 4x6 .. absolutely .. plane it down or snap a line top plate to bottom and use a 15 grit grinder .. .. But then again .. Throw that method out the window if the walls are not straight because Delbert released the braces too soon a month ago .. One a 25' wall .. taking a straight edge isn't the solution either .. Merely seesawing on a few studs and the one you identify as crooked is actually straight when the other two are crooked .. Like some of my friends .. I have seen morons put a chalk line on the wall until it touches .. and some of them have some nice chalk lines made by Italian craftsmen .... One point of contact will indicate many times that every freakin stud in the wall is wrong .. and you can actually go around the earth this way .. .. If the purlins , fireblocks or lateral blocking .. with a decent eye can see a wiggle .. Then the eye say .. Yep .. I see it !! .. But then again with crowns in every direction .. Just burn the house down and hire someone else .. Run a string at the same distance .. Never touch at midspan .. or try one of these lasers that project a plane .. assess .. and fix .. I personally don't like to fix .. I fire !! .. I recommend that any wall that has chair rail or cabinetry .. Order the studs 2 months in advance .. Dig a pit approx. 1' longer and lower the studs into the pit and fill with water and for color some Add mud .. but make sure the studs are fully immersed and weighted down by cinder blocks .. Then let dry in the sun for another 2 months to properly cure .. spread out in a jumble .. It makes for absolute precision and the drywall artist and cabinet installers will praise you
