➡️ It's been months since I've highlighted a virtuosic jazz bassist, and I couldn't think of anyone better than Mohini Dey to break the dry spell. She released her debut album in August of 2023 and reached out to me about reviewing her music on the channel. I feel terrible that I took so long to make it happen, but it was WELL worth the wait. Analyzing what was happening in her track "Introverted Soul" was a fool's errand, but I enjoyed looking at the song's structure and arrangement to highlight why her music is perfectly composed for a solo-bass effort. I discuss her otherworldly "feel" as she rips bass solos at blistering speeds, her impressive use of dynamic control with a wide variety of bass techniques, how she carefully straddles the spotlight as Guthrie Govan and Gergo Borlai take center stage, and so much more.
