    Great content.From sunny Scotland. Just proves, you don't require the highest quality of tools to carry out this sort of job. Well done lad, credit to you. FAB

    It is usually good practice to replace the rear main oil seal when doing this job, especially if the car has over 160,000 kms. It's an easy sub-task if the engine and transmission are already separated for clutch/transmission service but a piss off if all else is good.

    4:10 I found that the alignment tool that came with the Exidy clutch kit was a real snug fit in the pilot bushing. So much so that it would "pop" when I pulled it out. These tools usually have a tiny bit of play so you can slide them in and out easily. Not in this case.

      Yes, there is always a few obstacles on a big job like that. Little things that should take seconds turn into hours…. Is your car back on the road?

      @@JoeBakerOutsideTheBox Yes but only temporarily. You can read about my issue here on the Element Owners Club: www.elementownersclub.com/threads/element-with-bad-5-speed-manual-transmission.167503/#post-1722396 I need another transmission or perhaps buy a repair sleeve/over-sized release bearing kit. Bummer.

    me and a friend are getting ready to do this on my element for the first time any advice. We plan on using your videos for reference and we are also going to link to your video from ours. Because with out your video i have been scared to do it since we dont have a rack and stuff and we would be doing it just like you in our garage.

      Its a big job, for dismantling the use of penetrating oil is a good idea specially if the car shows rust, if I would have do it again I would get an engine hoist to make the job easier and save my back. Also take lots of pictures for reference, be careful not to damaged any wiring harness. Check out advice from Element owner forum and ETGC forum. keep in mind that my clutch installation went pretty smooth you may face challenge not cover in this video. Good luck with your project.

    Clutch disk still looked good. What happened? 2:22 Did you reuse the original flywheel bolts and apply LocTite to the threads or buy new and apply LocTite like you did with the pressure plate bolts at 3:45? I'm contemplating this task with my 05 Element (with an Exidy clutch kit from Rock Auto) so any tips would be appreciated. 7:27 That is an amazing tip with the long bolts used to guide the transmission into place! Thanks!

      The oil pan was leaking and oil somehow contaminated the clutch disk...I tend to over do it. So I replaced all the bolts with new one and medium strength loctite all of them. Check your motor mounts while your at it for replacement or not, oil soak all your bolts before removal, be patient and have fun.

    4:48 Factory torque spec is 19 ft-lbs for the pressure plate bolts. You said that then changed to 25 ft-lbs. Was there a TSB change?

    I would love to know how that exedy clutch feels. My Element is stuck on the driveway until I chose which clutch to go with. Any feedback on the way it turned out would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for the video

    What is needed to convert a Honda Element from Automatic to Manual? (Besides the transmission)

    • @JoeBakerOutsideTheBox
      @JoeBakerOutsideTheBox  Před 5 lety

      Not 100% sure, I never plan that conversion. For sure 3 different mounts for the transmission, a flywheel, linkage and plate for the stick shift (and a stick shift). I'm guessing different wiring harness for the transmission, new CPU or reprogram the existing one, a transmission stiffener. I believe all drive shafts and propeller are the same....sounds like a fun project.
