    Wouldn't it be better to ream the bronze bushing without the needle bearing in place, so no cuttings get inside it?

    • @MadeInGreatBritain
      @MadeInGreatBritain Před 2 měsíci

      It would, but the roller bearing is the perfect support and it’s in its final place. I do it up the other way instead so gravity sorts the issue

    Did mine 3yrs ago. I live in France but had the arms rebushed by Minimine in England when visiting family back home. Collected the next day saved me the time & buying of tools !!! Good video, take care Dave. Dave's 1987 Mini rebuild project ( F/book)

    Thanks for the shout out. The drift you have should remove both the old bush and needle roller bearing without the need for a puller. Love the finish on the arms

    • @classicminidiy
      @classicminidiy  Před 3 lety

      I couldn't quite figure out punching them both out. Do you punch one into the radius arm first and then dig it out?

    • @eduardodedios8213
      @eduardodedios8213 Před 3 lety

      @@classicminidiy I would guess that you could probably punch both out with punch that’s long enough, you just made it the proper way, great work as always

      @@classicminidiy You use the drift in the bush end to push the bush through the middle and that then pushes out the grease tube and the roller bearing all in one pass

    Nicely done! I used a puller kit from eBay for the needle bearing and the drift with the reaming kit made short work of the bush. Insertion of the new parts was done with a 10mm threaded rod and the nice thick washers from the tired old parts.

  • @naturalbornminidriver2869

    little advice: the plastic tubes tend to burst if you overdo first (all) lubrication! that’s real fun - you did the job, and ruin it at the last step. priceless 😂

    I`m just about rebuilding my radius arms for my 75 Inno 1300. Watching your video helped me finishing that job nicely - thank you for sharing!
    What I´m left with is the radial play that I found on both radius arms - that play is about 0,2mm, which I think is too much...
    From the theorie the tolerances of radius arm + shaft + xxx sum up and you need to "adjust" the installation somehow.
    My idea is to install the roller bearing NOT fully home, but stand off a couple of x/10mm and press that bearing home with the actual used shaft.
    This results in Zero axial play.
    Question to you: how do you set your axial play??
    Thank you for a breif response.

    Is it ok to grease the bearings after fitting the radius arm on the car? I put a thin film of grease on the shaft before sliding it into the arm and greased it with a grease gun afterwards. Must be ok, what do you think?

      I have not done this on a Hydro setup before but to my knowledge the pivot shaft is largely the same concept and process. I believe the hydro arms have the "two bushes" instead of a bushing and a needle roller. You should be able to use this same guide to accomplish the job.

    • @classicminidiy

      Usually they begin to squeak as the inner tube no longer retains grease. Its sort of a creak/squeak. Its a good idea if you know they are very old too though.

    Both the bush and the gearing need to be below the surface not flush and reaming the bush with swarf going straight in to the bearing isn't a good idea that won't do it any good at all :(

  • @jokerscape
    @jokerscape Před 3 lety

    When your reeming does this not leave bits of bronze at the roller bearing end ? Is there something you can do to prevent this like doing it the other way up ??

    • @classicminidiy

      You know I am not sure. I think the intention of the bronze bushing is to help keep the grease inside the tube as well. I am sure someone out there has tried it out though!
