- Layers in Adobe Fresco can seem overwhelming at first-but it's actually not as bad as it seems. They're also incredibly powerful and useful for creating your best possible work. In this jam-packed video, we're slicing through the layers of Adobe Fresco like a hot knife through butter-or an onion, because yep, we're sticking with that analogy (they're just layers all the way down, and yes, they can make you cry).
Whether you're a seasoned pixel pusher or a vector virtuoso, there's something here for you. I'll break down all SIX types of layers in Adobe Fresco, and yes, you heard that right-six! From pixel-based layers to vector layers like the Little Mermaid... uh that will make more sense after you watch the video... maybe...
👀 Expect to learn tricks for manipulating your layers to control the look of your images, discovering how picture layers can hang off your artboard without getting cut off, and why adjustment layers are like the Swiss Army knife for your digital art toolkit.
🔧 Plus, I'm tossing in some pro tips on using layer properties like blend modes and opacity to add that chef's kiss to your artworks. And because I love you guys, I'll also show you how to use adjustment layers to tweak your image without throwing a wrench into the works.
So, if you're ready to get a grip on Adobe Fresco's layers and elevate your digital drawing game, this video is your golden ticket.

So informative! The Little Mermaid clips were spot on 😂
So glad to hear! And glad you like the clips, lol.
Great video as always Chris! Been binge watching and feel so much improvement with your information. Your style and delivery are perfect for me and I really appreciate the work you put into this. Riso layers are stumping me no matter how many times I watch your video but I am not giving up! Keep up the great work!
Thank you! I appreciate that!! The riso things can be a bit confusing. They do have a smart PSD kit that has actions to do it for you which is pretty cool. (With a little less control)
So jam packed with layers of gold nuggets
Glad you think so!😊
Priceless info, thanks, Chris!
Glad it was helpful!
Great stuff Chris, your content has gadgets and gizmos aplenty! ;)
Lolol thank you!
Decided after years of not drawing I wanted to learn how to on my tablet and your videos are a God send keep up the amazing work!
Thank you so much 😀
Nioce. Very helpful. My top tip is holding the Touch Short cut and double tap the layer to quickly turn visibility on and off. Great video Chris!!
Oh that’s a good one! Thanks for sharing.
Entertaining and educational! Thank you!!!
Glad you liked it!
Frigg I needed this video so bad!!!! Thank you so much!!!
Oh happy I was able to help!
Thanks. I always learn something new.
So glad to hear!
You’re welcome! ☺️
Can fresco do the curve adjustments? Like photoshop?
AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME! Thank you!
Glad you liked it!
6:37 yeah. that’s really fun! wow.
16:06 good talk.
🙏
I came here for the Fresco and stayed for the awkward 😂 (and a little for the Fresco, too) Thank you! Super informative!!
lol :)
Is there a way to change brush size more quickly, where I can resize without having to open the brush menu and clicking on size button before I can adjust?
Not that I know of… there maybe some way to make a custom command, but I don’t know about that.
I'm jazzed there's people like you making Fresco content. Have you messed with Procreate Dreams much?
Thanks so much! I have used Procreate Dreams a bit, it’s very cool, although for most motion stuff I still find myself using Fresco. That’s mainly because the stuff I typically do is more about adding movement to an illustration rather than full on animation, like a short or something.
What is the difference between clipping mask and locking the transparency? They seem like they do the same but 1 is just for pixel layers. Thanks ahead of time
A clipping mask is non-destructive meaning that what you do on the mask can be turned off without effecting the original art. Locking the transparency changes the image itself.
Bookmarking the hell out of this one.
🤝😊
Am doing a portrait, but for some reason I can’t find where to dim down the picture to copy it
In the layer menu you’ll see an opacity slider.
I needed this video. Idk when. Probably a long time ago. I procrastinate.
Thought about how I might make that last sentence into a ProCreate pun. Fell short. Maybe next time. K bye.
Haha I’m here for it when you remember!
I only use Adobe fresco 💯
👍
The layer names not being visible in the layer panel is so dumb (I know you can see them if you open the properties) Makes working in fresco kind of a pain sometimes. Every other adobe program (and procreate) you can see the layer names. But in fresco if you have a bunch of layers it’s a mess cause you have to click through like ten layers properties to find the layer you’re looking for. Maybe Adobe would listen to you if you told them to make the freaking layer names visible
I do agree that would be nice. Anyone can suggest features within the app. Maybe we should all do it.
