i looooove when someone is really excited about cinema in these videos like when u can tell its their passion ugh love it
Mr Turner does know his cinema very well. Love his movie choices, especially Mean Streets, Come And See, The Cranes Are Flying and La Strada.
00:08😂 Guy is oozing charisma...love his energy. His taste in movies is top notch as well.
He's Dating Dua Lipa for a reason lol
His smile and overall energy is vey james dean
Hot. Talented. Obsessed with Jack Nicholson. And, exquisite taste in cinema. What an absolute gem.
The Leopard is a masterpiece, I'm glad someone finally picked it!
This is one of 18 movies (though that includes Kieslowski's 10 part Dekalog) I have left to see from the 2007 version of the book '1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die'. I think it's about time I set aside 3 hours to watch it.
@@bwlboy123it’s extraordinary, I saw the undubbed version in 4K at the cinema a few months ago, amazing experience
Scorsese would've definitely picked it as he put it in his Top 10 Greatest Films.
Love that Agnes box set, she’s the greatest!
Dude knows his cinema. Respect.
Great post. Great to see enthusiasm without being melodramatic. I came to see ‘The Letter Never Sent’ after having seen ‘The Cranes are Flying’. There is just something about Russian film in this era where there is such depth of soul, and the cinematography is sublime. The Cranes are Flying complete with the metaphor Squirrel is my all-time favourite movie. When I saw it, I fell in love with not just the leading lady, but the intertwined narrative, the gorgeous angle shots, and lighting and one of the most bizarre soundtracks (you'll either like it or loathe it). This was a huge movie in USSR at the time and somehow the script got past the Russian mafia with some sneaky lines poking fun at the evil dictatorship of a communist regime. The Letter Sent which also stars Tatyana Samojlova is also a great film full of a humanity and survival against tremendous odds, but the beauty, power and romance of ‘The Cranes are Flying’ is the ultimate. Other great Russian flicks, if you liked this one, are ‘Ivan's Childhood’ (tragically sad but with some of the most beautiful cinematography I have seen (namely when Ivan recalls the past times of love and joy with his now lost mother)) and ‘Ballad of a Soldier’ - a film where the innocence and sweetness of the leads is such a delightful counterbalance to the more heavy themes of war. I had a dear Russian friend born 1914 in Russia, so it is no wonder these films resonate with me as she lived so many parts of lives conveyed in these magnificent films.
The Cranes Are Flying was the stand out discovery of the year for me, just blew my mind!
callum saying probably 'the best movie i'VE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE', about fifty times is so hilarious to me
Excellent choices. The Cranes are Flying is an absolute masterpiece.
Wow no one I know ever acknowledges Au Hasard Balthazar or even heard of it. Thank you! Love this movie.
Come And See!!! Fantastic choice.
The last 30 mins is forever scarred in my brain. Holy hell!
Glad I watched it - don't know if I could watch it again. It's an astonishing anti-war film.
He described COME AND SEE the way I think people should when recommending it 👍🏻
AHHH BEEN WAITING FOR THIS!!! MY BOY MY BOYYYYY!!! drop ur letterboxd king, don't be shy
Ayee Mustapha shout out. Big ups this guy he seems really chill, amazing picks also
Always good to see someone nab some Visconti. Doon't see it enough in the closet. I don't know if La Strada is his first venture into Fellini but I think it's the best film to start with if you're exploring his work. I started with Satyricon when I was about 12, I was very confused. 😂
it's possible you were very confused because "Satyricon" is a shitty movie. and I LOVE Fellini.
@@davol2449 A lot of farting. 😆
Love 8 1/2, La Strada, Amarcord, LA Dolce Vita, Nights of Cabiria
@lilchaos4792 You should try Il Bidone. Criminally underappreciated on release but now seen as one of his great early works. La Dolce Vita is probably my favourite of his films however I preferred his neo-realist period more overall that his later more surrealist period.
@@1977Suspiria Thanks for the recommendation!
Love the obvious passion. And anyone who leads with Varda and Bresson is all good in my books!
If him and Dua Lipa ever have a child, that human will have the greatest voice ever.
I take note, great advices Callum!😉
Cool guy. Awesome picks. Thanks again Criterion for making our lives truly enjoyable. Come and see...more Criterion!
Some pretty sweet picks. Of course, 'Come and See', 'Naked' and 'Mean Streets' are obvious essentials. 'The Kid with a Bike' was good, but I connected more with 'La Promesse' (also by the Dardennes).
This guy is super bright!
Great video, great choices, I’m not even joking
great video, Calum Turner comes across well !
great great choices!
I'm fine with Dua lipa being with him now
dua is awesome. not only does she make some damn good music but she's got a man with some good taste in films. this will broaden her musical horizons and on a visual level. plus, we NIN fans like her a lot.
How come you guys never had Quentin Tarantino in there. He'd geek the hell out and have things to say about every single disc there, the episode would last for a few hours
I need him
Callum in The Only Living Boy In New York City with Jeff Bridges and and Pierce Brosnan… first time I heard of him and saw his work…
Callum Turner is awesome. Great video.
Hopefully Jeremy Saulnier and Imogen Poots will appear in future Criterion Closet videos.
His French was just PERFECT, how does he do that?
wow didn't think i could love him more lol😍
Why isn't Green Room a criterion?
All good stuff
I know this is about films and great choices by the way but I have to ask .. what is that jacket? If anyone knows how can I find it please help me 😅😂
The cranes are flying. Callum, you are a gem
Grats on Neuromancer! Hype.
We love it when people pick Visconti ❤️
a beautiful man with beautiful taste
Kid has great taste.
He's JAMES BOND
He would be a great James Bond, I also think he should be Duke in the next G.I Joe film.
This guy's got taste.
Actorazo!
Are all of those dvds, blurays or both?
Anyone know where his jackets from?
We need the Capture back.
"if anything goes wrong, just blame Charles." Michael Butler, to Anna...
Handsome bloke.😍
That's in New York, right? What a shocker.
0:57 who let him out of my pocket?
Hey Callum you da man 😎😎😎
His laugh is so cute
Swap out his London accent for a NY accent and I’d swear this dude grew up somewhere in the five boroughs. Great film choices.
Poor guy was so in his element he picked the dvd versions :(
nice
If you read along in the transcript, it would make a good improvised monologue for someone who, like, was secretly a jewel thief and got recruited as a jewel thief catcher, and then tried to warn all their jewel thief friends that they were compromised but weren't truly on the side of the angels and, like, erors and stuff, dived in, two completely different people, blahblahblah--like, a secret jargon that only other thieves would get. Plus, he's picking v obscure films that he probably has never watched or heard of, just to say "hey I'm trapped in sstg dodgy here," etc. Scorsese is not a pasta! but that's just a fever dream for a dramatic made-up monoglue. so zi me!
PS--is this the guy dating rita ora right now?
to answer your question, he's dating dua lipa now :)
iconic.
I think the word is "dove," BTW. At least he'll have some viewing in downtime from party going with his lady friend in NYC! Tis the season!
This guy is hot
What's the 2nd one black and cover with the woman?
Au Hasard Balthazar
Why can’t I be Callum’s closet pick.
Masters of the Air coming to Criterion?!
He is so dreammmmmy😍
callum you're so charming for WHAT
I don't know how to explain it but he looks like he was shot in a black and white movie that was colorized.
"The most extraordinary film I have ever seen, hasn't been filmed yet."
HOOOOLYY SHITTTT
*"And Theseus didn't even get nothing for his brother, Newt"*
The way he pronounced Le Bonheur cracked me up😂
this feels like a date
Ladies and gentlemen, your new James Bond.
So good to listen to someone who doesn’t sound like he’s just stepped out of Rada, waxing lyrical about films, just seems more… real.
"am Theseus." Hi, "I'm Michael powers."
Actually more jealous that he spoke on the phone with James Gray for 3 hours
BASED FRENCH NEW WAVE ENJOYER
Why can't these people say the name of the film that they're holding which none of us can see?
Or why don’t you just look at the list of films chosen thats shown in chronological order at the end of the video (yawn)
Idk who this guy is but marry me will you?
I have been waiting for this premiere for too long. And the support team has never returned my request asking when they publish this gem
You recently sat next to Eva Green...she didn't give you an french lessons?
1st
Callum's character was a bit cocky and dumb in Masters of the Air. Less so here...
Love to see Naked by Mike Leigh
Did he say "Best movie I've seen in my life" twice? Lol, that's awesome!
