Hello number one.."comics fan!.." So i just bought the Humunoids collected English edition of Bouncer. It was like riding on a roller coaster for the first time. LOL. To say that a Jodorowsky take on a Western goes over the "El Topo" (sorry for that😅) is an understatement. Holy Sh!t. And i haven't even started on the breath-taking art by Boucq. Earl, what i don't understand is how no one has made a video or essay making a direct comparison and analysis between Bouncer and Blueberry by Moebius and Charlier. It is like Jodorowsky is doing a twisted perspective of that series. but also the ART is done in such a way that Boucq is kind of homage to that Moebius style but in a complimentary way (with nods and winks with the inking line style and Mise-en-scène. Someone should do a study on this and maybe find out Joorowsky's motivation to create such a series in the first place. Cheers😉🎨❤

'New York Cannibals' is the follow up to Little Tulip, 20 years later. Great book.

Oh man. The kissing pages. That got me. Fantastically grotesque. I’m only 7 minutes in! I think Boucq is someone I need to find more of.

there's a new book of Boucq & Charyn, a continuation of "Little Tulip" called "New York Cannibals, which will be published this summer (in German... but hopefully in English as well).
... and there's a series written by Yves Sente called "the janitor" which I've totally overlooked. You gotta image-google "francois boucq" to get a sense for all the different stuff that he made.

Jerome Moucherot actually starts in mid 90's, after the first two works with Charyn, but it follows the tracks of the first Boucq, so, yeah, it goes on the first stack but I just wanted to say that it's done during its artistic peak. He's still working on it, there are 6 volumes in total, funny as hell. Oh, and I believe that it's his greatest work after Moon Face. I don't think that Little Tulip would rank that high for a lot of people, well, for sure not here neither in France, where the magician's wife is pretty much highly considered and so is Jerome Moucherot. I actually think that Boucq has long passed his creative peak, the last 2 Jerome's, Bouncer 10th and 11th aren't as good as the previous ones. Bouncer without Jodo became too traditional and it's strange because Boucq is pretty weird too. Thogh his drawings are always top notch, he switched on digital coloring, I mean someone else is doing it even if under his vision, that's why the coloring is of course still strong. From Bouncer to New York Cannibals, the sequel of Little Tulip (I believe it's going to be published very soon), you can see that his colors aren't vivid like the Jerome Moucherot's. As good as digital coloring can be done it still falls flat trying to imitate the analogic process. His latest works are colored by his nephew/son. He did also Le Janitor with Yves Sente in the new millennium, it's not bad but, yes, he passed his peak for me.

some important additions/corrections to the video, thanks for pointing that out. In terms of the sequence of his works I rather thought of some red thread from "caricature based satire" to "graphic novel" than in a pure date-of-creation order.... but it's clear that I left a lot of dangling threads there (has he been related to Charlie Hebdo in some way?).
haven't got the Bouncer-Volumes by Boucq only, thanks for the warning to have my hopes not too high... I'll get them nevertheless, same with Janitor and NYCannibals.

@@earlgrey862 Yeah, well, I wanted to be sure, but I understood the way you put those 3 stacks and I agree. The new Bouncer is just too traditional, it's good but seriously who reads Bouncer to find an almost classic western story? There are just a few weird things, like the uber fat woman that one can associate to Jodo.
I don't know if he did something for Charlie Hebdo back then but he illustrated "Javier 2015 les proces: Charlie Hebdo". If I remember well he worked for A Suivre, the magazine that had Tardi, Forest, Schuiten, Loustal, Manara, Pratt, Munoz, Comès and so on.

@@OdysseyMichele Agree, he is past his prime, still great drawings nonetheless. Shame about digital colouring as well, but hey, just sign of the times. Haven't read The Magician's Wife yet, but other Charyn/Boucq collaborations (Little Tulip and Devil's Mouth) were disappointing, with quite naive and undercooked stories. So was XIII Mystery episode drawn by Boucq, poorly written (forgot writer's name, probably not worth mentioning anyway), full of clichés, seemed like the writer spend about 20 minutes on the script. Published ages ago in English Pioneers of Human Adventure was great fun, therefore expected more from Bouncer written by Boucq - not bad, not exciting. My favourite from Boucq (and Jodo as well) remains Moon Face, full of bonkers ideas and totally over the top satire.
