Tile Layout for a Tub Shower with Window

Take your time at this stage 😁
Having a good layout plan will make the tiling process much easier 👍
A window will always complicate things 😃
A linear border provides a lot of flexibility to the layout
Start from center
The objective is to avoid slivers & have equal cuts around all features
This scenario the height was 74" off tub
Center point 37"
Easiest way to evaluate the layout is by simply marking out tile on wall
Starting from center will not work in this scenario
The cut under window would have been 1 3/4" wide 👎
IMO anything less than 3" on a 12" x 24" tile looks like a sliver...
I do not recommend starting out with a full tile at tub or shower pan
Its best to have the flexibility to scribe cut the tile to maintain an even joint at tub
Plus its nice to cut the tile so it goes around & below the tub or shower pan on side walls
Sometimes the initial plan does not work out
Reducing size of a border is an easy trick to provide larger pieces at ceiling 😊
Keep in mind that most old homes do not have level or even ceilings
Sometimes this can be wildly off
The bigger the top tile is the less noticeable the slanted cuts will be
With tiles that are divisible by 6" (6", 12", 18", 24") starting from center works best
Hindsight is always 20/20
If I would have planned ahead, I would not of needed to make any L or U cuts on tile
I could of simply aligned full tiles to edge of window & adjusted the border size to make that work 👍

Once again thanks for providing so much info in your videos! A couple of questions, we have a bathroom window that is off center to the right on the wall which is the length of the bathtub, ideas for starting point of 12 x 24 tile on that wall, ie. row and/or hieght? Secondly, many use laser line in place of ledger board when they tile but i've only seen this with horizontal tiling, this would be vertical and 33% stacking offset going up to the right. The tub is pretty level but wondering how to handle a tilt if there is one for bottom vertical row since a ledger board would not seem to handle the vertical tile situation well?
