    A VPN should be only PART of your security tools. umatrix and ublock origin do a good job of tracking facebook and google's metadata tools. If your only using a VPN they can still see you.

    Mullvad is top tier. Pure anonymity (no info needed for sign up and BTC payment options) and no government compliance for $5 a month.

    I use NordVPN but after that article on the security breach, I'm considering changing. ProtonVPN seems to be common in the responses so I will research them.

    I don't mean to be a stick in the mud regarding your sponsor, but... I think everyone should keep in mind that if the VPN provider is providing Network Address Translation to hide the IP of you the client, they are by definition logging that translation. Even if they say they are not logging traffic save for diagnostic purposes, and even if they boast of Bulletproof Hosting Services which don't log for diagnostic reasons, this is still true. Also If you are paying for the VPN with a credit card, there is no expectation that you will be anonymous through a VPN as this purchase reveals you. Normally you can't pay cash for these services, or easily get a prepaid card without an Social Security Number. Combine this with the NAT/ARP logs and the VPN router service can still be subpoenaed to convict you, and the NAT/ARP logs will prove your guilt. The VPN service only protects you from local prying eyes or hackers in your physical area, and from (if NAT is provided by the VPN host) from anyone listening to the traffic where it spills out on the internet. It does not protect from lawful warrants, or in most cases protect your identity at all, any more than an HSTS/HTTPS connection directly to your requested website. :) Note that if Coffee shops created a password for the WiFi, even if they gave everyone the same password, you would still get a unique session ID, encryption, and separate encrypted traffic from everyone else:) As long as you visit only websites with HTTPS Certificates, you don't need a VPN in the middle. Most major websites have HTTPS compliance, and with extensions such as HTTPS everywhere you should be fine without an VPN because this will ensure that if you are visiting their site, and they provide an unsecured HTTP connection, an encrypted connection will be made instead. :)

    Do any vpns have gigabit throughput? The primary reason i dont use one is because the internet speed generally sucks. I have multiple people in my home streaming any any given time so my bandwidth needs are kinda high

    Hi! One thing that has been bothering me for quite some time it's that public WiFi doesn't let you use a VPN, whether is my Uni's, Starbucks, at the airport... So I end up not connecting to those WiFi and therefore I waste my mobile data when there are times I'd really like not to do that...

    I remember hearing flash would work around your vpn and "tell on you" revealing your IP. Is there a way to know when the vpn is and isn't protecting me?

    • @chromac2772
      @chromac2772 Před 3 lety

      Well your traffic can be intercepted in some cases. With a wifi pineapple you can spoof the access point and your phone will connect automatically to the spoofed access. Then with that middle piece you basically listen to everything going between you and the internet. At least I'm pretty sure:p

      If its free, then you're the product. Free vpns more then likely sell your data, also they also very slow.
