    Kitbashing is definitely something I wound up indulging in a lot, especially for my Aspiring Champions I've done thus far. One of my personal favorites I've done is I got a pair of spare legs from a buddy (they seem to have been Blood Angels at one time, they got the weird sigmarine helmet kneepads they like plus purity seals), used that to toss on a spare marine torso, added a Terminator Lord chain-loincloth-thing to the back of the legs, Warp Talon arms for claws, and then a spare Terminator Lord helmet. Guy looks kinda imposing striding forth, but considering his arms are upwards I can't help but picture that 'oh, are you approaching me?' meme every time I see him either >_>

    @yipyipyipi Před 4 lety +1

    Fun tip: you don't need multiple kits to kitbash. I've done a lot of stuff by clipping and shaving parts from one guy in a kit and gluing them to different places on another guy, like taking an optional axe, shaving off the hand on it, and putting it on someone's belt as a side-arm. I had some guys from a kit that had three officers, and used all the various bits to cut and shape different backpacks for each officer so I could have a guy with a comms unit, another with an oxygen tank and one more with extra ammo and a side arm.

    I just did my first bit of kitbashing two days ago. I wanted some gue'vesa for my Tau army so I got the 5 man Cadia kit and a fire warriors kit. I cut the tau legs right below the knee pads and cut the human legs right above the boot which goes bit up the leg. Clipper slipping on the smooth surface was a bit annoying but dealt with it and after a bit of dry fitting and filing it looks great. I particularly like one who has one foot on a primaris helmet, looking to the side, pulse pistol out in right hand, little radar thing in left and pulse rifle on his backpack. A mate of mine said how it might be hard to see them being human since it’s only the feet that had been changed really but they still need to be painted and I feel that since I know that they’re special is what makes me happy.

    The first conversion I ever did was on a Wizkids mini. I had to cut it up as they're one solid mini, buy some other minis with bits I wanted and cut them up and bought a box of 3 space marines because I wanted an arm and a backpack thing. I just glued it all right together and...Well, the head sort of fits.
    I'm doing my second conversion right now as I've picked up Age of Sigmar and both want to give myself variation in what I'm painting and have a few cool looking uniques. I picked up a box of black ork blood bowl minis so I can throw one of the weird masks on a topless Megaboss so he looks more rabid and psychotic. I'm also converting the rest of them into brutes with spare parts as well as going under the assumption that the guys with arm guards are actually shields.
    It's going a lot better than my first attempt at conversions!

    Loved the video- thanks! I enjoy kitbashing and converting my models as much as I enjoy painting them. I’ve been building a 30K Raven Guard Legion army for the past couple of years, and there are very few minis that I haven’t altered in some way- I really like making my army different than other ones out there, while staying within the same aesthetic. I actually almost blew my drink out of my nose when you mentioned dropping bits on the floor while dry fitting, etc. This happens to me so often that it’s become almost a living meme to my wife and me- I don’t know how it happens, but traveling the 2-2 1/2 feet between my desktop and the floor, so many bits are completely un-findable that it’s like there’s a Stargate there, because after giving up the search with flashlight and all, they turn up later on the other side of the room, or even in the next room. So many of them have just disappeared from the face of the Earth that we often joke that there’s a black hole under the desk. Anyway- I’ve been a subscriber for years, but I don’t think I ever left a comment here before. Just had to though, hearing about your “bits black hole”- keep up the great content, and thanks for all of your advice over the years.

    Great idea to make a list of websites that sell amazing conversion bits. It's hard to find a decent (current) list of shops. Plus, the benefit of shops all across the world gives everyone a chance for low shipping costs.

    Thanks! I just got into WH40K and I stating to get all my material together to start my army. I think the figures are great looking but I wanted to make them my own and so I've been looking for independent companies for my custom look and these links you gave us are awsome. I hope you get some kick backs!

    Just starting my bits collection honestly, but I've already got several pieces I know I'm not going to use, so straight to the bits box with them. Also, just yesterday I got in some bits for a conversion I'm planning for Underworlds, so I'm looking forward to playing with that.

    Oh man I am in the middle of a conversion I am fusing two models. But tossing in 8 different parts and fused a castigator and a hellblaster guns. Cut away the presss fit guys legs and bought a lower body to replace it. And I had to make the piping that connects the hellblaster to the power pack. I got all the conversions done now I just need to paint him in the ravenguard color scheme.

    Yesterday i bought a chaos lord (the hammer guy) and it fell from my hands.
    I had to get rid of his ponytail)
    I wasn’t very happy with the bald head (mainly because i already have 2 bald guys) and i decided to kitbash it.
    I atached cables from the meganobz kit to connect his backpack and the plasma gun. And then i decided to chop his head off (it took me 1-1:30 hours to make it work, but i achived my goal (i changed his head with one of the admech flying skulls).
    It looks AMAZING

    Kitbashes and conversions are the biggest draw of the hobby for me. I love customizing and personalizing in games, but in video games you have nowhere near the freedom as you do in many tabletop games. It's much more satisfying to make a model unique, even with a small change, than it is to look at the same thing you'd see in fancy studio photos.

    Thanks for the advice dude :) I'm going to be starting a Death Korps of Krieg army before long and I'd really like to make an astra militarum priest but with a heavy DKOK influence (ie respirator/gas mask AND mitre/priest hat). Pretty heavy conversion for my first go but I'm planning as much as I can! It looks like Anvil have 90% of what I'd like but any advice for me?....other than "maybe don't start with such a complex project" lol

  • @irnbru6418
    @irnbru6418 Před 4 lety

    I like secret weapon conversion bits because of the different types of backpacks and comm packs what I use for my cadians but they also have greek and Roman style helmet pieces which I use for my blood angels because it shows a story like if they have a Greek bit on it shows they have been raised from birth to fight and I use a ring inscriber which my aunt has to make names for my men ones called xiphos because I got one of my friends to make a xiphos Another space marine has a Roman head piece and he's called Gladius because of the sword which my friend also made for me but it's a pretty good company what makes alot of other stuff like brick roads if you live in the uk use wayland games to buy because it's cheaper but it currently needs a restock

    I didn't hear you mention it, but if you play somewhere other than your house you might want to confirm they don't have a problem with non-Games Workshop bits on your model. A long-gone hobby store in my area had issues with non-GW bits or really using any model parts they likely didn't sell you. This might be an obsolete issue (freely admit that I'm an old-timer who hasn't played in forever), so feel free to educate me if shops have calmed down about this.

    I've always loved the idea of kitbashing some 40k Space Marines, or now, AoS Space Marines, er I mean Stormcast Eternals (they or the Adeptus Custodes might be a perfect starting point), into a Sparta themed look. I saw many years ago someone did that with 40k marines. I'm sure he used resin parts (too many uniform perfect parts to be scratchbuilt). No idea where they came from though? Any insight to that Atom?
