Firearm safety is paramount for any gun user. To ensure your safety and the safety of those around you, here are four MUST-KNOW firearm safety rules: 1. Treat every firearm as if it were loaded. Even if you are certain that a firearm is unloaded, never assume that it is. Always check for yourself. 2. Always point the muzzle of the gun in a safe direction. Make sure that your muzzle is pointed in a direction where it cannot cause harm or injury to yourself or anyone else. 3. Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot. This will help to ensure that an accidental discharge does not occur. 4. Know your target and what is beyond it. Be sure of your target and what lies beyond it before you pull the trigger. Never fire a gun unless you know what is in the line of fire. By following these four MUST-KNOW firearm safety rules, you can help to ensure that everyone stays safe when handling firearms.

Good advice for sure but don't confuse "situational awareness" with "safety". And remember, the rule is "Know your target AND what's beyond", and knowing your target would cover if something gets in the line of fire per your example. The 4 rules aren't exhaustive, they aren't intended to be, they are just the 4 BASICS of handling the firearm itself safely. Additional factors, like situational awareness, come into play depending on the circumstance, though it's of course good to train those good habits. Conceal and Carry on!
@@SplashOfOrange I disagree, knowing what is behind the target is at itself, not important, if you are not aware of the entire 360 around the target its risky rule, as it is just an old not updated rule, the new one is a better situation awareness, behind the target does not contribute anything more than situational awareness to safety or to anything else, its a sub-rule and as such should not be repeated
@@Unicorn-Blacknegative, because what we know for sure is that 1) we don't always hit what we're aiming at and 2) bullets can penetrate the target even when we do hit it. 360 awareness is important but already covered (in terms of getting into the line of fire per your example) by the first part of "knowing your target" and is secondary to what's "behind your target" for the reasons already stated. k/r
