Welcome to episode 148 of the Commander's Guild: "Adventures in the Graveyard". Every week I go to scryfall.com and randomly select a card, making a budget (under $100) commander deck around it and showcasing a gameplay video of the deck. This week I'm joined by Luke, Mike, and Doodle.
This week's random card is Kess, Dissident Mage and she's also the commander. Due to the specific wording of Kess we can actually cast Adventure spells from our graveyards and when they exile themselves we'll still be able to cast the permanent half afterward. This means we can load up on Adventure synergies, exile synergies, and instant/sorcery synergies to easily out-value our opponents.

Thank you! One card I would recommend would be Maestros Ascendancy. It allows you to sac one of your creatures with an adventure so you can cast the adventure from the grave later and serves as a Kess 2.0

I would say I flew a little too close to the sun that game, but my lack of flying creatures would beg to differ
The lack of flying wound up getting you but if the rest of us didn’t have fliers that would’ve been your game for sure.
I built a kess adevntures deck a few months ago..loved playing it.
Also at some point I'd love to see your take on a duke ulder ravengard deck.
I’d be happy to try a Duke Ulder Ravengard deck! It will probably be a while, unfortunately, since I do work pretty far in advance for the videos. But thank you for the suggestion!
