My solo day hike to Mt Moosilauke in the White Mountains of New Hampshire following an Appalachian Trail NH section on the Beaver Brook Trail. Mt Moosilauke counts for both the New Hampshire 48 4000 Footer (NH48) hiking list and the Beaver Brook Trail counts as an elective for The Terrifying 25 (T25) hiking list. Additionally, the Beaver Brook Trail is a well-known extremely difficult section of the Appalachian trail in NH. The New Hampshire 48 4000 Footer list, created by the Appalachian Mountain Club, consists of 48 mountains in New Hampshire with elevations of at least 4,000 feet and a minimum of 200 feet prominence. The Terrifying 25 list, created by Trish, Alex, and Sage Herr, consists of the most interesting White Mountains trails that have slides, rock scrambles, or boulder caves. This video is part of my series where I attempt to find the best day hikes in New Hampshire. Have I found the most terrifying or best day hike in New Hampshire? One of the top day hikes in New Hampshire at least! Specifically, Mt Moosilauke is located near North Woodstock NH in the White Mountain National Forest.

i'm planning on finishing the 48 sometime this fall, I have 18 left. I think i'll tackle the terrifying 25 next year
Probably Adams or South Twin Mtn

@AdamHoyt I recently hiked down Moosilauke on an 8 day trip. Your video prepared me for it, but it was still intense. Previously I held out Hell Brook Trail from the Long Trail on the ridge of Mount Mansfield into Smuggler's Notch Vermont as the steepest trail I'd ever done. It may still be, but I found the north side of Moosilauke to be more abusive. Have you done Hell Brook Trail? I searched your vids and didn't find one on it. If you haven't done one, I'd be curious to see a video on it.
i have not yet. but it is not the first ive heard of this infamous trail. when i am healed i will go have to hike vermonts most notrious trail lol.

In the morning when I started I was worried that I had not, since the clouds were so low. And if I had been hiking regularly I think I would have summited in the clouds. Luckily I'm so slow while filming these things I made it to the summit just in time for everything to burn off in the midafternoon. Perfect timing!
You round trip total miles must way out for you the amount of times you set up your tripod for us to give them awesome shots. Great video.
You got that right! It seriously adds up. The way it seems is if its like a ten mile hike normally it takes me 1to 13 maybe even 15 miles to do haha. Even easier to tell is if its a 4 hour hike it gets extended to 1.5 times the hours. so like 6 or 7 hours to do haha. It looks like for this specific hike I turned 6.6 miles into 10.1 miles lolol

Amazing videos and loved Moosilauke, used to be amazed by it every season when I used to live nearby in North Haverhill. Ascended Gorge Brook but never Beaver Brook yet, hopefully soon! You make it look so easy!

That steep and wet ascent looks scary, but coming down must have been super scary. I resisted for my whole life, but I recently started using trekking poles. I used them climbing Mount Marcy in New York a couple weeks ago. It was wet and tricky attempting to stay dry. There were a number of stream crossing that would have been almost impossible without poles. I purchased some carbon fiber poles at Sierra that I love.
OO it had luckily dried out a tiny bit by the time I was heading down. Just a little slow and steady. OO awesome! I recently picked up some myself that I have been using to help me hike through recovering from my knee surgery and they have been life savers! Happy Hiking!

Yes
When I did Moosilauke (via Glen Cliff) we got NO views from Moose itself, but some phenominal views from the South peak. Especially of the clouds rolling into the ridge. Next time we'll go up Beaver Brook and then back down Glencliff for sure. But going down Beaver Brook does not sound like a wise choice for me.
I've seen several people get no views from the top so I was very pleased with the perfect day I got. I would highly agree with you that descending beaver Brook is more difficult than ascending. It is just so steep with so many rocks. As a larger guy I usually enjoy the downhills since I get to let gravity do most of the work for me, but on this trail I had to do extra work to hold myself back since I had to basically carefully pick every foothold to navigate the rocks and steps. My legs were burning by the end!
@@AdamHoyt Yea, I pretty much always find down harder than up. I can just grit my way up, but down I have to be so cautious. Went up Flume Slide a few weeks back. I would not go down the top .5 miles without rope and harness! Going down Falling Leaf and Bridle Path, however was not too bad. Some spots took some care, but mostly it was smooth sailing. Since I hate doing out and back anyway, for me it's just a matter of figuring out which is the steepest and going UP that one!

I feel like the presidential range is harder. Particularly that stretch between Madison springs hut to lake of the clouds.
That would be a fare choice too. I'll have to see if they post signs to scare you there every 5 minutes as well.

Yes that is exactly what happens! If you watch some of my first videos I made I used to include walkbacks at the end of the videos.
How long did it take you to hike up and down in total?
Don’t ask me because I was filming and took forever. Regular person maybe 5-6 hours?
