      @@juliansmith4352 oh, no argument there. I think there were games that summerall called when he was totally shit faced. I'd still take him over joe buck. John Madden got a lot of flack for how he announced. But here's why he's great; he could explain a play so that a five year old(me) knew what the hell was going on. They both played and coached, too. That's a big part. Look at the 1990 nfc championship game at the end, they had a long shot of Matt Bahr waiting, and he said "That's a lonely world, believe me " that's why he's great.

      Yeah, '84 through '86 was a great time for New York sports. Would have been even better if the Wild Card had been in existence in Baseball. The Giants learned to win again. So did the Mets. The Yankees were in the hunt for a good deal of the season in '86. Managed to win 90 games despite the utter lack of quality starting pitching. Sweet Lou proved he could manage a team that year.

    Ironically, two pieces of music best known for their use in college athletics made their debut on this Super Bowl. One was the theme later used for college telecasts, the other was David Barrett's "Golden Street Prelude", which was supposed to lead into "One Shining Moment" before the latter was yanked. Then again, had CBS used One Shining Moment after the Super Bowl instead of the NCAA, it may not have become the annual tradition it is now.

    Damn poor Denver football team. That safety could have been avoided and two missed kicks. Shoulduh woulduh could have be up 16-7 at halftime. Asking what if? Maybe a couple more kicks in the second half enough to hold on 23-? ~ Brian

    Felt bad for Elway back in the 80's. He carried that team for years until Shanahan took over and got him some help

    • @breadandcircuses9967
      @breadandcircuses9967 Před 4 lety +2

      You could also say he was carried by a weaker conference putting 3 afc titles on his resume in the 80’s and he was a little lucky the 49ers didn’t win through in 97 and 98 as I think they would have been a much worse match up for him .

    • @christopherfoote4643
      @christopherfoote4643 Před 2 lety

      That's not accurate. The Orange Crush was established long before Elway came along and was instrumental to the cause. It's especially annoying given how well Craig Morton played in Elway's absence. Revisionist history at work. Elway made Denver better. But he wasn't carrying anyone.

    • @christopherfoote4643
      @christopherfoote4643 Před 2 lety

      Actually I think it was another coach that gave Elway more impressive stats and no it wasn't Mike Shanahan although he was also among those who assisted him.

    • @christopherfoote4643
      @christopherfoote4643 Před 2 lety

      Like I said that's balderdash. Denver was quite competent and actually quite competitive without Elway. Elway maybe made the difference as far as getting there but a championship is rarely about an individual. He was always so disappointing in the Super Bowl. Honestly I thought he wouldn't win it.

    Last two scores were cut?
    Shame this turned into such a route after Denver played well in the first half
    Kind of wish they had made the FG and the Mobley TD (dropped) at the end of the 2nd.
    Would have given them a 20-9 lead and the Giants still would have done that 2nd half...
    so 39-30 would have been an epic score

    We need to have some sunlight Super Bowls. It’s great for pictures and those pictures make for magazines and lots of tangeble publications. The NFL doesn’t need to bow to technology or social media. They have an audience that Trumps those outlets

    I think the one team that would’ve given the Giants the tougher matchup in Pasadena that year would’ve have been Cleveland. I say that because their secondary had two shutdown corners in Dixon and Minnefield.
    That being said, I think, in the second half, adjustments would’ve been made and the Giants would have beaten Cleveland the same way they would do v Denver in this game.
    Cleveland against that Giant defense would’ve had to depend on Bernie Kosar who was 23 at the time. And no Earnest Byner in the playoffs that would’ve been a detriment right there and you have Dickey and Fontenot as your Running game v a Giants D that allowed 69 yards total on the Ground in the NFC playoffs going in. Now, yes Cleveland did beat the Giants in the Meadowlands the year before, but in the Super Bowl, you give Parcells and Belichick two weeks to prepare and I think it would have been too much Giants, especially in the 2nd half and still would win going away.

    The most notable thing about this Super Bowl was the halftime show. THe halftime show back then so so different from the ones today. I remember people saying the halftime show was the worst part of the Super Bowl, they were so bad that other chnnels had anti-halftime specials that you can switch the channel to, but now, the non-football fans say that the halftime shows are the best part. Amaing how thigs change. What do you think about the halftime shows over the years?
