"There was a massacre at the Glencoe McDonalds?!"
This needs more likes

My mother taught us about our Scottish ancestry. She told us never trust any government. Because even when you think you can trust them, they will take everything even your life, if it brings them more power. And listening to this kinda proves her right. I mean we all knew the oppression that the crown put on people, but you dont really think about all of the innocent people killed for their power lust.

@RubberFistFight And even with all that, there are people who will say to you with a straight face, that England treated Ireland, Wales and Scotland well and that we all should more grateful.
Low Government Trust is surprisingly felt here in Newfoundland and Labrador, where we had our way of life destroyed by the Canadian government when we were united with them in the name of centralization. There's still a lot of people here descending from the same people who lived in fishing villages on the coast that were forced to move inland or to larger communities that hold great resentment of not only the national government but also the provincial government since the politicians who voted for union were also the ones who screwed us over afterwards until they were voted out of office
Get over it
@@pizzarat5097 What happened with the government in Newfoundland and the fishing villages? I know that a lot of people lost their jobs when the cod populations crashed but I haven't heard about the government doing much besides trying to put a ban on cod fishing (way too late to do much at that point).

“What I remember about the Massacre of Glencoe was... how quiet it was. During the waning hours of the 13th of February, 1692, the Regiment was discreetly transferred back to Glencoe. It was a silent trip. We all knew what was about to happen, what we were about to do. Did we have any doubts? Any private, traitorous thoughts? Perhaps, but no one said a word. Not on when we marched through their gates, not when the orders came down, and not when we began killing civilians. Not a word.”

Apperantly when the two of them came to America in the 1880s, one of the MacDonald boys stole, then killed a steer owned by the Glovers. @@incandescentadolescents1889 I guess our history classes regularly teached shit about ancient Egypt, French and Indian war, American revolution, a little bit about the war of 1812, age of recovery, gilded age, American imperialism age, Mexican American war, WW1 and then WW2, and then finally Cold War. There were occasionally a few bouts of foreign country periods such as the French revolution and tid bits of the glorious revolution, especially the industrial revolution, but we never strayed away from French, British, and American history into other country histories such as Russian, Spanish or Italian. Aside for the foreign revolutions, my high school history classes taught in that order.
We were encouraged to check out other foreign nation's history's that were not explained in detail or only had small bits of information based on the courses we were in, but good luck getting American kids too worried about sex and clout to care enough to bother. Hell I don't think any student other than the nerds and I even knew about the Russian revolution and the rise of communism.
Yup. Schools don't teach a great deal of British history. A little bit of the Tudors, 3 years of WW2, and a footnote mention of the Romans. I didn't even know until adulthood that the Anglo Saxons came here from what is today Denmark. Still don't know the names of half the Kings of England throughout history. Wasn't taught anything about Napoleon, presumably because talking about him would mean mentioning Britain.
Oh, there was one more thing. We were taught how evil we were because of the slave trade, right before launching into American history that we didn't need to know.
Schooling in the UK doesn't teach anything useful. Not even our own history. It's just a place to put kids during the day, that is under the control of the State.

Even if your war on me was just--as it was not, for were you ten times as wise you would have no right to rule me and mine for your own profit as you desired--even so, what will you say of your torches in Westfold and the children that lie dead there? “They have created a desert and called it peace” is a quote taken from an ancient British monarch (pre-angles, so Celtic Brit king) giving a speech warning of the Roman invasions under Claudias. The speech is preserved in the histories of Tacitus. The full quote (translated from the Latin to English of course) goes like this:
“Robbers of the world, having by their universal plunder exhausted the land, they rifle the deep. If the enemy be rich, they are rapacious; if he be poor, they lust for dominion; neither the east nor the west has been able to satisfy them. Alone among men they covet with equal eagerness poverty and riches. To robbery, slaughter, plunder, they give the lying name of ‘empire’; they make a desert and call it ‘peace’.”
Slightly incorrect, it was during the campaigns in Scotland by the Roman General Agricola during Domitian's reign, around 30 years after Claudius' invasion.

The final comment you made, that the average American of Scottish ancestry knew more of the traditions than the average Scottsman isn't too hard to believe. Those of us from European heritage that wasn't Anglo (Scandinavian, Irish, German, Italian, Greek, etc) who grew up with those first generation immigrants have made an effort to keep those traditions and cultures alive and a part of us, not just for history or ancestry, but to honor those whom we love and miss. I grew up in a family apartment building in Chicago with my parents, grandparents (grandma was 1st Gen American, grandpa from Öland) and my great grandparents who were from Öland and Katrineholm. I learned to speak Swedish from them, their culture and grew up in the Swedish/American circles in Chicago in events they went to. I'm also half Irish and proud of that beyond "Let's get drunk on St Patrick's Day". America is a melting pot, but some of us still cling to those things that give us our subculture, where we came from, and the people who built our country we have today and loved their new land as much as they missed their old one. If we didn't have that, we'd be left with whatever "culture" Hollywood and the policians tell us we're allowed to have and I'll be damned before me and mine will bend that revisionist knee.
All of europe is considered anglo?

@John Higgins I recently left high school in Glasgow, nothing... nothing at all
The fact that this isn't taught in a lot of places here is surprising to me. We covered it multiple times when I was going through school. (Aberdeenshire)
I bet you learnt English history though... Henry VIII and so on... Disgusting
@Glasgow boy Rossco seen the thing that came out that schools are teaching kids to become BLM activists?
@Glasgow boy Rossco i personally believe racists are bad people but don't force people to be not racist.
Maybe you're too young to realize this Dank, but if you were producing Absolute Mad Lads in the '90's... it would've been the #1 show on the History Channel!
The long long ago of The Way Way back before ancient aliens destroyed their credibility
My grandfather was from Scotland. He made sure we all had a book about the history of the malcom clan, and all of the grandchildren have our coat of arms displayed somewhere in our living rooms. My father was very adamant that we knew our clans' history and where our family came from.
I’m still surprised Dank hasn’t done a mad lad on Ivan the Terrible
or genkhis khan lel
He's too well known
Ivan mostly tried fighting poland for 24 years, hated the boyars, started what was basicaly a cult, set up a murder zone which he didnt say where and bonk his son over the head with the royal sceptor and much much more.
Yeah I guess he could get one.
Eh its been done to death
Alexander the Great was a proper madlad too
"They had created a desert, and called it peace."
Beautifully sad.
remember who thats written about the next time they tell you white people never suffered.
The religion of peace.
@Joe Alexander Zululand for the Zulu!
@@bailechuind6194 No one says white people never suffered.
@@bailechuind6194 Bruh what is wrong with you?
This is actually really fucking sad. What an absolute tragedy.
The illustrated recounting with the bag pipes really hit home. Sad but beautiful
Events can be Mad Lads now? That opens up a whole new realm of possibilities!
9/11
Battle off Samar
The spicy german paintercaust
The rape of nanking
The khmer rogue
William of orange on reading about Glencoe: Oh no. Anyways.
Fascinating stuff. Great Job!
Aside from just listening to stories of, well, mad lads, I love learning about other cultures & histories. Thanks for sharing a bit of knowledge about your people, mate!
"The slaughter of Glencoe actually inspired another atrocity, something that shocked people around the world.."

Okay 🤔
I got KFC
A chicken massacre
Hahahahah, Mine was a Flu remedy where a robotic arm chased a sick sheep.
Mine was Corona, it's a sign lads
To be fair, English schools aren't big on teaching English history either.
all gov't white wash their own history for the sake of 'keeping the peace'
Northern Irish schools don’t give a single shit.
SKETCHY basic they’re biding time till unification anyway
Dread pirate Roberts II it’ll happen eventually
i remember spending a whole year on hitler but learned way more from horrible histories in general!
Growing up, I didn't learn about my family heritage of the Morrison clan (whose name has changed over time in history, as all do), but when I was an adult my father and I looked into it and I've been so intrigued and saddened by the history of it all. I'm proud to be a descendent of Scotland, and I'm glad to have kept the same brazen attitude of the Highlands like so many others here in the Southern United States (which has a LOT of Scot and Irish heritage, even down to our accent which originated with Scottish settlers, which is why we tend to be able to understand thick Scottish accents better than other English speakers)
The more detailed accounts of regional historical conflict I learn of, the more that human history seems to be "urban vs. rural" to me
Ishikawa Goemon.
-his samurai father was killed
-he swore revenge, and became a ninja.
-got kicked out cuz he banged his sensei’s wife
-essentially became a Japanese Robin Hood
HERE IS THE MAD LAD PART
when he was captured. He and his first born son were sentenced to be boiled alive in oil. He took it like a man. holding his son above his head as long as he could, when he could no longer stand. He killed his son himself, as to spare him the agony.
Jesus christ that's some next level savagery
What omg...
tacos forlife don’t get me wrong many aspects of his life are a point of debate among historians. But if any of them are half true he’s a mad lad
A true hero
The day I become a Dad… I would do the same thing to spare my children.
"we scots can hold a grudge" ain't that the truth
Indeed
“You scots sure are a hateful bunch”
“You’ve just made an enemy for life”
I wondered where I got it!
@Hammer Go Bonk! you beat me to it you ungrateful umgi! You'd better believe that's going in the book!
As with us Irish
good to note that Mcdonalds in the usa makes way more money than campbells soup
Such a versatile concept. Dank.
"One of the most devious and snakey things that has ever occurred on this soil."
"You know what's really fun? Recording the entirety of the rest of this video, going to edit it, then realising...."
Considering those lines, and the lack of one at the start of the video, I was expecting the most devious and snakey mid video Raid Shadow Legends advert thus far to occur. I'm kind of disappointed it didn't to be honest.
LOL I was also just WAITING for it
IT'S YA BOI, RAID SHADOUGH LEGENDS!
@@HeroSword_P Apparently even Raid Shadow Legends have some videos they don't want to be associated with LOL
They should have released "the Scottish expansion" for Raid by now ...
In last week's TISM with The Quartering, Dankula revealed the planned unnamed sponsor for this video backed out.
Turns out that this particular raid was to spicey for a RAID sponsorship...
"Slaughter under Trust"
Sounds like a Grindcore Band
I feel like I have heard of a band by that name.
Turns out there isn't a band by that name. Needs to change
@@willpestka2745 I would willingly make that change, just need a grindcore voice and a band lmao
Just liked this when he said this in the video.
Honestly, it probably is. lol
Grindcore dude here with band mates. Will gladly change our name for the cause
Watched this a few days ago. I was at a local bookshop today looking in the European history section. Did not find what I was looking for but I found a book about Glencoe. Brought home and added to the "to read" pile.
Thank you for this video
Old king billy had a ten foot willy he showed it to the woman next door.
She thought it was a snake and hit it with a rake and now it's only six foot four
lmao i remember saying this in primary school what a classic
I read this in Clay Dice's voice.
Love these poems.
My old primary school teacher was called mr Tilley. This rhyme was known by everyone who attended tge school

This comment is way under rated and deserves to be seen by all. Well done.
I thought he was going to say Season 8
SREBRENICA
I got a RAID Shadow Legends ad, quite fitting
Lad, I know that's a bit of an old vijeo, but that was brilliant. Thanks for that!!
"They have created a desert and called it peace"
The sad thing is that this is a quote from a Caledonian chief named Calgacus in AD 83, describing the Romans in their conquest of Britain and plunder of what is now Scotland. I guess some things never change.
The phrase "and so began a boogaloo" needs to be in common use from now on.
yup
"They have created a desert, and have called it... *Peace.* "
This quote deserves more recognition, same thing with the "Now I am become Death; the Destroyer of World's." Quote.
YAAH-E the desert line is actually a very famous quote by the Roman historian Tacitus
The english on the Glencoe Massacre: "Oi! We had nothing to do with this! feck off!"
Peace without freedom is like a sandwich, made with actual sand.
I mean, it was invented by a Roman to describe themselves.
Boris Selbstadler that is correct
That was a fascinating account which I'll have to watch a couple more times. Some things never change - the government still shifts the blame for everything they've done wrong.
been binging your content like crazy man love your videos! keep it up
