    Hi Chris! I am almost done with my first Rosanne. It is turning out great and I am really pleased and can hardly wait to post. Since the side seams aren’t topstitched (and I like that look on this bag), I am having trouble keeping the seams open. I currently have the seams stuck down with double sided tape, but the seams are still wanting to pull outward. I put duck tape on top of the seams now, and the tape is not holding them either!! I thought duck tape sticks to anything, but it is not holding on top of the decovil light. I have the outside and the lining done, but I didn’t want to put it together until I am sure the seams will stay back. Do you have any other suggestions I may try? The bag is made with a thicker faux ostrich vinyl.

    • @simplyclassic
      @simplyclassic  Před 2 lety +1

      I can’t believe that the duct tape isn’t working. That usually sticks to everything!

Hubby is going to get me a new roll of duck tape (xtra strength) or gorilla tape and see if it works. I am thinking this roll is past it’s date code…lol….does it get old if it is kept in a shed that gets hot? I would rather use tape than glue. I will let you know if it works!

      @traceytowner176 Před 2 lety

    I’ve been put off using vinyl to make a bag . I made most of a Swoon Brooklyn travel bag. My machine (a Pfaff 4.5) could not handle sewing the curves of the vinyl base. I used vinyl and linen to make the bag. What should I look for when buying vinyl so that my machine will manage? I really love this Roseanne pattern but am a bit worried about starting something I won’t be able to finish.

    • @simplyclassic
      @simplyclassic  Před 2 lety +1

      Every domestic machine is different but I would suggest a .8mm or less vinyl. The bag would be gorgeous with the main fabric as a linen and have vinyl accents. You could even make the handles from linen, or make them with one side linen and the other vinyl to reduce the bulk there. My domestic machine can barely handle a zipper so I fully understand the challenges. If you give it a try, post it in the Facebook group. I bet it will be gorgeous!

      Hi Tina, I have a heat press which I think is my most valuable tool in my workroom, next to my sewing machine. It saves so much time and the decovil fuses perfectly every time.
      When I fuse to leather or vinyl, I keep the heat on for only about 8 seconds verses 12-15 for cotton, linen, etc.
