Good info, I have a 7SV. Not a 9 but still effective at helping me on the water. I fish out of a 1992 Pro 17 Bass Tracker. Looks like your boat is similar size. Don't need a fancy Bass boat to catch fish. Keep fiahin!

Hey friend. I’m so glad I found your channel! I have had the same exact unit for a year almost and have been trying to figure it out on my own. You have been a great help. The biggest problem I have is knowing what I’m looking at on screen with side and down view. That being said I have a odd question. I drew a GA gator tag for this August. I’ve been twice to the area I am to hunt. The Savannah River. What settings would you suggest for the sloughs for side scan? The sloughs are about 30 feet wide and 3-15 feet deep to the banks. It’s tidal water also. My second question is during my scouting I’ve seen gators and have been able to get to where they go under quickly hoping to see image on screen of a gator. But I don’t. What should an alligator look like on the screen? Thank you!

Great question!!! I’ve never run side vu in a shallow narrow area but I would be looking for the dark shadow past the gator like a log in the water. Not sure how dense the bottom is compared to a gators body so I’m not sure if it would show up much differently.
With that said remember this isn’t forward facing sonar, a moving object on clear or side vu may not show up because of the

Wow! Thanks for the quick reply!!! I did not realize that about clear view and side view in regards to moving objects. I want to say again how much I appreciate the tine and effort you put into videos with this unit. When I went to purchase my unit, I found very few videos on it. Several “unboxing” videos which I feel are a waste of time. Anyhow…….I do like my unit and can’t wait to apply what I’ve learned from you. I feel I will love my unit now.
The bottom of these sloughs are muddy and a gator will usually go under and lay on the bottom until they feel the threat has past. Sometimes they suspend underwater with their head horizontal and their body vertical. I even googled “sonar image of alligator “ it only showed live scope image.
Tell you what I’m going to do before my trip. I’m going to swim under the sonar myself and see what I look like on the screen. I think outside the box like that!!!! If I get some amazing images, maybe I can get your email to send you pics of the images.
Another question I have (and you may have done a video on this and I will look) is at what speed and why does the unit stop measuring depth? It’s important when running the river at 25+mph to watch for that skinny water!! My unit starts blinking the depth sometimes and I must stop and let it catch up so to speak. Thanks for your time. Keep up the good work!

PLEASE send me pics of you in the water!!!You can message me on Instagram @doubletfishingtexas. Set your sonar speed to “auto” I believe it’s on the Home Screen menu under sonar. That may clear up the blinking, I have that problem traveling over 30 MPH. Also it’s important to have your transducer level for clear images. Got a video for that also

    Saludos.

Hello Javier, I’ve never actually verified the accuracy of the water depth displayed on screen. Garmin claims it is within 1’ foot. The built in map contour depths are not accurate at all you cannot use them other than a reference for determining the elevation difference of a drop off or hump in the bottom. As far as the use of tracks data, you can save a track or route in a .gpx file which can be viewed on a program Garmin still has available called “homeport” but it is not easy to use. You can also convert it to a .kml file which is more widely used in programs like Navionics. Take a look at the videos below or browse through the Garmin sonar series playlist on my channel, have a great day!!
