  • The Mercedes-Benz GLA is a 5-door, 5-seater (sort of) compact crossover (subcompact it you’re in the US). It comes in FWD or AWD. The GLA shares its platform with the A Class. GL means crossover or SUV, and the last letter signifies the size in Mercedes lineup. The GLA debuted in concept form in 2013, and soon afterwards it went into production. Since 2016 to 2019 it was also offered as Infiniti QX30 with somewhat changed exterior. Infiniti’s yet another attempt to conquer the European market was so successful, the brand disappeared from Europe altogether.
    ↔ Mercedes-Benz GLA dimensions:
    ✔ length: 4410 mm
    ✔ width: 1834 mm
    ✔ height: 1611 mm
    ✔ wheelbase: 2729 mm
    ✔ boot/trunk: 435 L
    💲 Mercedes-Benz GLA 180 starting price: 34 800 euro
    💲 Mercedes-Benz GLA 220d 4MATIC price as tested: 58 000 euro

      So I see it's a pan-European trend :)
Mazda needs to be very motivated to sell anything, and Mercedes is all about gender equality, but not about getting their cars right and selling them, like a premium product should be sold.

I liked the pictures of the GLA, so I went enthusiastically to the MB dealership to see it as I was shopping for a new car. Sadly I was very disappointed once I sat in it. The toggle switches are such cheap plastic and have a nasty "CLICKING" sound. The wooden inserts are a joke - so unrefined and cheap to touch. Plastic is also awfully hard in a lot of places. I also found some misaligned body panels... really disappointing. I can not believe that car has a Mercedes badge and such a high price. Out of curiosity I also went to see and test drive the new Kia Xceed and wow - totally different experience; fit, finish, materials - huge 10,25-inch smart infotainment, digital virtual cockpit - incredible quality and the price is 35% less than similar GLA. I went back the same day and put the downpayment on it (full option equipment) - now I am just waiting for the delivery. Mercedes should really think hard about why are they selling such cheap-feeling GLA next to their GLC for example, which is a totally different story with its premium materials. If something wears an MB badge and price - it should feel like that also! I want quality interior and feeling - who gives a crap about that "car wash mode" gimmick?!

It seems to me that some lady will like this car model in this particular specification. Congratulations to the whole team on a great test and I wish you a pleasant end of the year and an excellent start to the New 2021. Year 🍾🥂

I just bought one I really like it, I had a C Class but the GLA is higher up and easier to get in and out of as you get older. and it's great they got rid of that Renault engine they had in the older models. there as court cases going on at the moment owners were never told they had a Renault Engine when they bought the car,

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives Před 3 lety +2

If the car deserves it, I do. If this was an AMG 35/45 I'd talk about how it feels to drive. To be honest cars like this are about everyday practicality, but they all are meh to drive. Unless it's exceptionally good or exceptionally bad for the class, there's nothing to talk about.

I grew up as a kid near Stuttgart, where many people drove their Mercedes with proud, and a Mercedes was a nice, large Limousine. When I see this, I get a cramp in the neck, can't really watch it for long, feel some gag-reflex in my stomach. Is this any car out of a scrap-car press and then inflated again like a baloon?

How much time it takes for a car wash mode to close all windows? Maybe it is faster just to use simple switches to close them down? Maybe it is good gimmick for potencial buyers?:)

Cheers Marek, quite a good looking car but, shocked with build quality. What has happened to Mercedes? I remember when over engineering was a Merc. trait. Is this lack of quality throughout the complete Merc range or just the cheaper models? Skol!

Mercedes stopped making quality cars about 30 years ago. To keep costs down they continue to use Renault engines (and don't pass the savings on to their customers.) As regards to poor door alignment - totally unacceptable on any new car especially in a 40k plus car. If you want a quality luxury car buy a Lexus. Avoid Mercedes- you have been warned! Great review thanks.
