This guy knows and understands his own kit and explains it well 👍
Yes. He does 😃 Dan Bigham from WattShop, he is a legend. Ollie #TBT check it out czcams.com/video/QUUh_QeNRVE/video.html
minimal commercial bullshit, mostly just interesting facts! It is a shame tho that Ollie didnt follow up and ask how they fasten that skewer!xD
limyohwan wiith an Allen key👍🏼
@@Bad_Science_Channel Oh.. I was hoping for something hecking high tech!
He made most of it :D when he says, "software developed ourselves" he means "I have coded the thing :D
I love how you can pick up how excited he is about the details of the bike. This is someone that is supremely dedicated to his craft. I wish him all the best because it is well deserved.
Almost got me with the free hub sound. 😏😏😂😂
Me too!
This is the greatest bike that has ever been featured on this channel. Period.
Yeah!!! Track bike content!
Best GCN tech vid to date
the free hub? Hahaha
Joke asside, crank noise from a fixed gear bike is super sexy
This vid is one for the aero connoisseurs. Awesome bike! And well described/presented by Dan and Ollie.
More Track content please. Cervelo , Look , FES and behind the scenes at 6 Day Racing.
Another great video Ollie about this groundbreaking team. Dan's enthusiasm jumps off the screen.
Awesome bike...even better when you see it for real. Had the pleasure of seeing this team at National Championships in Manchester and they were great.
Awesom vid, amazing actually. Best free hub sound check ever 😜. Dr. Is a genius
10 years ago I was a cat 3 Dan Bigham style road racer. Most of Dan's tricks are all new products and ideas that we didn't have back then. But the view-speed skewers! I had those! heh.
Gotta love that freehub sound!!! Also a totally brilliant video!!!
Do we get to see Ollie on the velodrome!?
Great vid. Oozing with enthusiasm and info - all made very accessible. 👏
Please more track bike content...
These guys are changing track cycling, fair play to Dan & the team plus to Ollie for the interview. Innovation at it’s best.
Hopefully this is a sign that GCN will start making more videos from the Velodrome!
National Anthem for Derbados [sung to the tune of Monty Python's "Every Sperm is Sacred] : Every Watt is sacred, Every Watt is great. If a Watt is wasted, Dan B gets irate!
My knees were burning just watching the lads crouch that low for so long
Dan squats like western spy & realises his mistake 3 minutes later
Fair play, i was going to say why no Rotor aero track chain set but he had it covered! Moral of the story, always watch the whole vid before you think you know better... very interesting vid
Ha nice to see u up the road from me in derby. Only raced in the youth track league a couple days ago there. Hope to see u back 😂
Pretty optimized track equipment. Rider, of course, the human element, is a big factor. Reason why it's done.
I'd love to see a whole segment on those wheels. Conventional spoke construction with the aero gains made through the covers alone. Wildly different approach compared to the industry standard these days (opposed to in the past where techniques like this were used).
If you listen to Dan Bigham, the wheels are far from a conventional spoke construction. They're actually carbon strips. Look at the Walker Brothers Facebook page.
Finally some track bike stuff 😀🤪
This bike is ridden by Teams Denmark, Canada, and Australia and Huub Wattbike. Can't wait for Toyko 2020
And DK rides it best :)
Huh... this comment aged well
the argon18 tt range is just beautiful. proud owner of a e118 2012 and its still damn sexy :)
Awesome bike, love it! Custom cockpit is badass 😀
More track Please!
John Griffith Yes, please!
Yeah man!
The smile at the end after the presenter says: "Click on Dan's massive chain ring". 😂😂😂 9:47
Yes that trainee ring is HUGE
Haha I was watching through the video thinking "I'm gonna comment complaining that you didn't do a freehub sound test, it'll be well funny" but you did it! Haha
Phew!
Thanks for the nice plug for View-Speed.com Skewers at 8:10 in the video. We do have faster skewers than those in the video.
I think you should hook him up!
Track bikes it's about time I see yall showing them. I wanna ride it. I ride 50 13 daily all weather
50 13??? I only ride 52 16!
@@albr4 Fix gear
@@kid45620 single speed because I ride at 25 mph so I don't want to die, also I live in the UK where you're supposed to have a brake as well so it takes away the point of fixed gear.
My bike is a bit heavy so if I had a smaller back cog it would kill my knees at red lights
@@albr4 I don't blame you for having a brake. My older one I had a back brake. My new one I have a front. I was hit by a garbage truck and a jeep in 2007 breaking my C7 neck I was driving. Then shoulder surgery in 2013. With God first I fought back. You have to protect your life. I'm in NY so the smartest thing is to use a brake unless your in the track.
omg, when you spun the rear wheel...
that took me back to having a carbon track bike
Future Gcn presenter ?
Sign that man up asap! He'd be great as an aerodynamics expert.
why is the chain not tight -ned? Is this more efficient?
Danes smashed the world record in team pursuit on the Argon18 bike
BEST FREE-HUB SOUND CHECK EVER! Second track bike check vid on the channel (I think Hank's Kill Bill was the first). They are slowly appearing.
Great vid, such an innovative team!
Are fenders not allowed? How about a fin in front of the chainring? Golfball texture for the wheel covers?
Golf ball texture is prefect for.... golf balls. No use for bike wheels due to the relatively low rotational speed. They’ve been used for everything from bike wheels to the bottom of surfboards and it’s complete marketing b*ll*cks
Top notch stuff
I’d rather ride that bike than drive a Ferrari
HEAVYWALL 70 you’re fucking stupid
@@kifter4254 and you're a sheep
Robinson Aquino picking a Ferrari over a bicycle is being a sheep? Ok stupid fuck 😂 I’d rather be a sheep than be autistic
This guy is great!
65 tooth chainring... unbelievable!!
Would you like fries on that dinner plate?
DOPING
Yeah but at the same time theyre using a 15 cog, 52x12 gives you a 117 gear as well...
Another fast 🇨🇦 bike
what are those!!!!!!!!! GCN needs to hook Ollie up with some fresh sneakers.
There's a Canadian who races at the Detroit Lexus Velodrome with one.
I have that saddle on my argon 18 bike... guess it was a good choice then.
I'd love the budget to develop a track bike properly. With budget and very little time I reckon there's comfortably 10-20W (potentially up to 50W when you consider track cyclist wattage and speed) that could be saved. Whether the savings meet UCI specs or not are something that I don't know about.
Nice informative video👍🇦🇺
I was trying to figure out if they were running the saddle ahead of the 50mm setback line regarding UCI regulations, or behind (or on it), and then accordingly, the handlebar reach to comply with the rule. I know I’m late to the game with a comment but did that get noted anywhere? Just curious as always to the numbers. Great bike, makes me love my Argon even more now.
Why 1/8" chain? I understand perhaps for sprinters, but isn't there considerable drivetrain gain (friction reduction) for 3/32"?
The tension of the chain seems very low, is this on purpose? Great video!
Maybe it was tensioned very hard before a 800watt+ sprint :D
Slack chains are more efficient than tight chains.
@@jakoblester7816 I salute you Sir, for making me wiser on the subject! Honestly didn't know, will put some research into this, thanks!
Good spot, being a track bike, the chain tension is determined by where the wheel is in the drop out, as the guys had just got the bike out for the vid, it wasn't at optimal position.
track riders don't tension their chain very hard, it would increase drivetrain resistance
I'm interested to see those modified Speedplays.
5:56
wow please knock on those wheels again 😱😱😱
freehub sound check is not enough...
next should be material sound check!
That is hardcore!!!! Would love to give it a proper spin!
"There's not a huge amount in framesets, they're actually quite a small proportion of the drag". So, GCN.... Care to elaborate, or should we all still rush out and buy the latest aero weapon for our 18mph Sunday ride?! 🤔😂
i think he meant between various aero framesets when asked why they chose that particular frame, though it is true that most drag is from the rider not the bike.
He's also comparing top line track framesets which would be far closer together than aero and non aero road bikes
@@7metalfingers yep, totally agree, he's probably comparing track frames in the first part of his comment. However he does specify that they're a small proportion of the drag. Which is the killer point. The gains are so marginal that few mere mortals are going to significantly benefit from an aero frame. They do look great though, I have to admit that!
Heels should be on the ground. Where is the ankle mobility guys?
Wouldn't the front spindle be more aero if it was cut flush to the nut?
I need to join team huub
GCN vs Huub ? 😉😉
Yes
So cool.
Definitely some gains
Can anyone tell me the rough price of the saddle. As I am interested in trying one out. If someone can just give a quick estimate, b handy. Ta.
Fuck fuckin' yeah!
Garmin mount on the saddle? infoooo
Jesus look at that massive gear they chose
Omg...that chainring
yes free hub sound chek haha ollie is the best :)
Wellllll the lotus hope came out at now so?
track bikes sound the best!
Where can I buy carbon wheel skins?
not my kind of bike but great presentation from rider
Free hub Ollie!
sponsors aside: WHAT BIKE WOULD YOU PURCHASE IF YOU WERE SPENDING YOUR OWN MONEY.... that's the question us viewers wanna know.
The rear-wheel to frame gap seems large. I realize the bike's not fully set up for racing as shown (e.g., this isn't the racing crankset), and it's visible that there's plenty of room in the drops to pull it in closer. For racing, do they run the wheel a few mm from the frame, or is that gap just not as aerodynamically costly as it seems?
I thinkit was with Jens Voigt's hour record where they said that having the wheel as close as possible is not the best option. Im sure you can find somepictures of his bike and see the same thing
@@carlmlr - thank you, I was not aware of that.
You need a larger gear on the rear to reduce friction from the chain wrapping around the sprocket. Under pedaling tension that's about 10-15 watt.
Narrow bars? More like NAERO bars.
My hardwork will pay me off the day I will be the brand ambassador of this bike
Would like to see more track content. Maybe under a new sister channel called GTN (Global Track Network).^^
GTN already stands for global triathlon network.
@@matejkavc yeah but we dont care about triathletes here
No mention of ceramic bearings, gets my thumbs up. But of course these guys know that ceramic bearings are a gimic.
When describing the skewers, they mention the bearings are Kogel ceramic bearings.
@@scottbreen6547 damn, and here I was thinking this team had avoided this pitfall.
@@MrBJPitt I only make mention of this, not to endorse or oppose ceramic bearings nor to say as an average cyclist that we should mimic what pros do, but I do think this team invests quite of bit of time testing equipment(and position) that drive their decisions, especially when dealing with tenths of seconds defining finishing results. Also a discussion concerning bearing choice goes beyond material type and should include type of lubricant, fill level and seals used (big contributor), environment of use and required longevity (ease of maintenance) etc.
@@MrBJPitt I suspect there are some gains to be had on a track with full ceramic bearings, running in a very light oil (or something more exotic), without seals. Given the relatively clean and dry nature of a track vs the road, and a low expectation of lifetime. Yes i could see a small gain (1-3 Watts) by running the ceramics. Actually i'd bet there isn't much in it between a steel and ceramic in terms of top end performance, but there is a break in period, and they need them to be broken in before the event, and remain in the sweet spot for the whole round. I agree on the road a quality set of double sealed steel bearings, packed with a marine type grease is likely the best for most of us, and certainly for the training bike.
In the interview on the main GCN channel they mentioned that they are trying to optimize energy in and energy out at the same time, and given the longer turns these guys run it makes sense to pinch watts.
@@AndrewFrink it's well documented that ceramic bearings provide no watt savings. And unless you have ceramic races (don't exist in cycling, extemely brittle) then ceramic bearings cause more wear and watt losses very quickly after "run in". Ceramic against stainless steel is horrible.
Does huub wattbike own wattshop?
65/15?! how do you even pedal?! damn!
Oh my gooshness.
No
One
Perfect
Ever
Not my kind of bike (since It feels scary to ride indoor tracks, and no brakes!!) but it looks cool :)
Derby 👍👍👍
Can someone explain to me what he is saying about his tire size? is he saying that 23mm are faster than 20mm on the track? or is it just faster because his wheels are better suited for 23mm tires? Also thank you so much GCN for finally making a video on a track bike, please give us more!!!!!
Luciano Serafino
Wider the tyre the better the rolling resistance (to a point) they wanted to go 25mm but there isn’t enough frame clearance so they went with 23mm and built the wheel around it
Why does Ollie sound more American than all of the other presenters
Kyle Szymanski I’m secretly American. I just pretend to be British to fit in.
chain not tensioned? no slammed rear wheel? is this really a pro bike?
I'm assuming Ducati would say "No".
The elbow cups are not aero! 😳
"freehub sound check". but...but.. oh!
Rear axle looks a little wide!
Totally got me at the freehub part
