The Kings overpaid for a borderline AHLer and bottom pair d-man (Edmundson), and our only somewhat decent signing is a forward (Foegle) who's numbers were definitely filled mostly because he played alongside Draisaitl.
We wasted our cap space essentially on players with a lot of questions. It's diabolical. Unless they are serious on playing the youngsters massive minutes this season, I can't see an argument where they can get back to the playoffs.

if the dubois trade didn't prove it last year, this signing does. rob blake is BAR NONE the dumbest GM in hockey. he managed to unload PLDiva on the crapitals, but he probably thinks that with the corpse of darcy kuemper that he's solved his goaltending. he hasn't. it's worse than last year.
you could have got foegele for a million less. oilers fans repeatedly put him in trade talks as salary filler.
unless byfield has like a 100 point season or something, the kings are missing the playoffs this year, and perhaps by more than 10 points. maybe then the kings will see that blake, and his mentor bergevin, are ruining their team. four years ago you had easily the league's best prospect pool. apart from byfield and maybe clarke, you've squandered it all.

Disagree on the Red Wings. You want Stamkos at 4x8? Yzermans biggest fault has been overpaying free agents so I much prefer this over another future but out candidate.
It’s all one and two year deals meaning the wings will be able to take a swing again next year instead of locking down some 34 year old for too much money. Maybe they could have got Pesce if not for D signings last year. There’s a few guys that would have been nice but not with any term.

I'm still wondering why Yzerman basically gave away Walman. I know that Raymond and Sieder need new deals but the cap space for that is there. If he put all his eggs in the Trouba basket and is currently striking out on that, not only would that surprise me but it would also make me question his competence.
And someone needs to tell him that signing 2 below average goalies, wont make 1 good one.

    • @kd2453
      @kd2453 Před dnem

@@NothingToPointOut24 I think Walman has been overrated by the fan base because the year he came in he was the only decent producer outside seider on the blue line.
That doesn’t mean he was good or even very productive though. 43 points in 145 games. He looked alright next to seider for a time but it’s no coincidence that walmans best season was seiders worst. They spent all last year juggling the d.
I suppose you could put him on waivers but then a team like Toronto or Boston could pick him up. If he does turn it around you’d rather it be far away than somewhere that could affect your playoff chances.
How the prospects taken over the last few years develop is what will decide Yzerman and the teams date.

If the Sabres spent to the cap this offseason they would be worse off down the road - they are literally handcuffed for 2 years with that buyout.

Matt Roy is a very steady defenseman who is an analytics darling with some of the best WAR numbers for his position. They need to stop trying to play for ahl dominance and play our young guys in roles where they can succeed. It’s also insane the term Roy is on that’s gonna run into when this team inevitably has to rebuild and we’re not gonna be able to sign franchise pieces moving forward with all these shit contracts. Why not keep kuemper he sucked but we just picked up a longer worse contract for a center when we already had our two top six centers moving forward.

From a Nashville fan, the rebuild won't really be that bad. Nashville went out and got all of those pieces without having to give up premium assets. They still have some top prospects like Askarov, Tomasino, Kemell, Molendyk, Wood, and more plus they still have 2 first round picks in the 2025 draft.
If all goes according to plan with Askarov (who likely becomes Saros's "back-up" in a year or two), Nashville can do the 1A/1B dance like Ullmark and Swayman did for a few years with Askarov likely taking more of a the starters net role when he is 26 which is when Saros took it from Rinne. Yeah, Saros will be a really expensive backup, but Nashville will have the cap space to make it work. They did it with Rinne who was a 5M back-up, they are going to do it with Saros
They did all of these moves with 11.8M in dead cap space, so their cap flexibility comes back with the 25-26 season. Nashville looks like they could be competitive for a very long time.

The way I see it, if the front office of a team is too active early in free agency, there’s a high likelihood they’ll be overpaying players and may suffer buyers remorse at some point. Not always the case but it’s kind of like buying the latest and greatest golf driver at $600 and then your buddy gets the same one that slightly used but works just as well the following year for $350. As an Avs fan and with them being handcuffed right now by the uncertainty of both Landeskog and Val, love they were able to sign Drouin for another year which will allow them to sign him to a longer term contract next season. The waters are quite murky though and they could either be a top dog if all the stars align or just a very middle of the pack squad.

But a 8x$7.3m for Slafkovsky is an A+ move and Barre-Boulet is an A+ move just for the fact we got another Quebec born decently young forward for a minimum. We didn't lose anything getting him. We just get a deph forward in the NHL who could put up 10 and 10 in a 70 game season.

The way I see it as an Avs fan myself. If they can get past and figure out Val's situation, and by some miracle, have Landy back at full force, the Avs will still be cup contenders. The longer they drag out the what ifs, the worse the teams gonna get. Despite all that they'll still make the playoffs, the offense is still top tier, but doesn't matter who they sign or who they trade for, the depth (lack thereof) and the cap space being taken away by players not even playing is becoming the Achilles Heel of the team, meanwhile teams like Chicago, Nashville, and Edmonton are getting stronger and deeper, the Avs aren't matching them competitively.

Great vid, agree with all but the comment of Foegele. He was signed at 2,75m for 3 years, and only in his last year he was able to justify the contract.
He was pretty bad the first 2 years and very streaky. Also there`s a reason why he was the healthy scratch at one point during the playoffs.
Nashville for sure did great, they will gain a lot of offense and should be a contender now.
Canes did really well, but Walker and Gostisbehere are bot good puck movers, with defensive flaws in their game. Still, having them for 6,8m combined should be a steal.
Devils also did really well, Pesce is a great signing.
Oilers - their forward group got better, while their D still has the flaws, especially 2nd RD is a weak spot.
Also they are over the cap, so right now they would need to move Ceci or park Kane on LTRI.

I can agree with some of these for sure but i think you for sure got one wrong and missed two that were poor poor poor.
    1. Detroit. They dont have to go and get anyone they're developing players and there is no real rush in that. "Asking prospects to make big jumps," is exactly how you want build a franchise. Either the kids do it and you sign them up and continue winning, or they don't, you dont't sign them but you're still bad and are getting good draft picks because of it.
    2. Boston and Anaheim should be here. Trading that goalie to Ottawa for a worse goalie. And those long contracts for Zadorov and Lindholm are both kinda rich dont you think? If Lindholm is a 40 goal guy 7.5 is great. If Zadorov is dominant like in the playoffs thats great. But those are HUGE ifs...
Anaheim should be here because they dont know what to do. Gibson is still there and their jettisoning a bunch of the young talent they do have. Mark my words, they will be the Buffalo of the west in no time.
