At 0:18 you can see the kid go behind the top bar of the swing with their legs pointed down which means they have to be facing towards the camera, if they were facing away from the camera the feet would be pointing up at that moment.
I 100% thought it was facing away from the camera, and then saw how it was weird that they kept passing through solid bars, until I was finally able to get my brain to see it the proper way, which is in fact facing towards the camera
That's crazy, I can only see the exact opposite. The biggest thing for me is that their coat has a hood and the hood is clearly showing at all times meaning the hood is always facing the camera, aka they are facing away.
when it's a still image it's a little understandable how you can see both, but watching the video proves they're facing the camera because we know that people extend their legs and retract them depending on if they're going forwards or not on a swing. And many other things make it clear.
Based on the angle of the basketball hoops and trees, and the swing set being a double bar and not a triple bar, the particular swing she's operating is the northernmost chair of the southernmost swingset on the yard. This swingset is angled such a way that its northside is further from the school than its southside. The camera is looking at the swing from roughly the east-northeast. Therefore, on a swing towards the (mostly) west, from our perspective the person would be going right, and an (mostly) eastward swing would be left from our perspective. at 0:19 there is a frame where the top bar obscures the person on the swing meaning they are on the far side at that moment. so they can only be swinging facing the camera.
I looked into this a year ago when you first posted (out of curiosity over how you found it) and immediately found a Buzzfeed article from 2019 with a quote from the original poster about him taking the video on a snowboard trip in anchorage. I just figured that was the key clue. I had no idea you scoured Fairbanks before just guessing to look in anchorage. That’s crazy.
The light on the building behind the swing set makes it pretty easy to determine that they are facing towards the camera. It would be illogical for the bars of the swing to not be blocked at the peak of the backswing.
Nice. Also if you use the "Measure distance" feature of Google Maps to draw a line from the trees to the filming location, you can find the angle of the swing and deduct that the person has to be facing the camera. Otherwise their legs would be pointing right.
I think the big time saver in finding locations is always if you know who posted it and what area they come from, or just another hint that gives you an area to start from, as well as having unique places that aren't too common like a school in this example
I went to the school on google maps, based on the perspective it has to be the southernmost swing set (there's 4 swing sets at that playground). The block thing to the left of the frame is the playground lot that looks like the school might turn it into an ice rink in the winter or something. Therefore the video is being taken from the backyard of one of the houses directly east of the school. Lining all that up shows that it's the southernmost swing set which has a slight angle clockwise if you're looking top down. The person on the swing is being swung perpendicular to the swing set angle, and the only way that would make sense is if the person was being swung TOWARD the camera.
When the person swings to the right side on the video, you can clearly see that the beams on the right are in front of their body, meaning they have to be swinging towards the camera (the beams would be behind the body otherwise). That's literally all there is to it.
When she has her legs tucked, that’s the back swing. At the peak of her back swing, the horizontal bar on top of the swings appears over her body. This is only possible if she’s at the back of her swing, and the bar is between her and the camera, meaning she is facing the camera.
I can make my brain see the person facing either way. Not both at the same time obviously but i can flip it. Its kinda crazy how well it works in both directions but when taking other context clues into concideration it's clear that the oerson is facing the camera rather than the building
I see it both ways and can flip between how I see it. My initial thought was they are facing the building but when you see it the other way the legs appear to be in-front of the body rather than behind. However they way you found the playground was next level
As someone who can force myself to see them swinging in either direction, they're DEFINITELY facing the camera lol. And as Rainbolt said you really don't get much more info out of finding the swings location/mapview or anything. Just look at the empty swingseats next to the person, they're dual colored as you can see the under side of the swing on the right. which tells you what angle the swingset truly has relative to the camera and it breaks the illusion. If they were facing the other way they'd have to be mirrored in the seat with their feet sticking out to the right instead of left. (edit: and the darker color must be the underside not because it's darker but because of the angle that the two sides meet, even if you painted the top side to be darker than the underside the angle they meet would be reversed if the underside were the left)
The swinger is facing the camera. That is pretty obviously visible if you look at the video on a big screen or increase contrast in the editing software, but it's also verifiable by simple physics. Leg extension/contraction vs the position in the swing and the resulting acceleration. I don't actually think it's that hard to figure out, people just yearn for the mystery. And the fact that most people look at the video on a phone screen doesn't help.
Because of the way the swing supports are positioned and the thickness of the swing seats on one side, it can be proven that the person must be facing the camera (19:30). You can also see at 0:23 how the person is behind the swing support.
That's crazy using coding and the map overlays. I've never heard of this at all... but I am one of those people that can find places on the earth with very few clues. I have a buddy who's a remote viewer... I wish I had that talent. But I've worked with him and some "other people" to verify real world locations, using both esoteric means and traditional sleuthing and deducing methods.
Facing the camera 100% - during the back swing, they go 'behind' the A pillar of the swing set. If they were facing away, that would not be possible. VERY cool illusion though, had me for a few seconds!
Yes, the kid is facing towards the camera, watch the top bar. I can see away and both, however then angle would be weird if he/she was facing away, if he's facing towards the camera the swing is perpendicular to the swing set bar.
I've watched the video a bunch and even though I think it makes the most sense they are facing the camera, I cannot flip my brain to see it any way but the swinging away from it lol
Wow interesting stuff. I’ve basically been doing the same without the code filtering. Usually you can guesstimate a lot if you just think about it. The Anchorage jump is a good example since it would be a likely place if it wasn’t Fairbanks. People act amazed when I track a photo or videos location but it’s the same as googling basically. All the info is out there if you look in the right spots. People post a crazy amount of info on social media and I’m not even talking about scraping meta data off photos or anything.
easy to see in the video when you watch the person in relation to the poles on the side of the swing set, the person goes in front of the person when they swing back
You know, it's funny, when I first saw that video, years ago. I thought to myself "that looks familiar." then I saw the video you posted saying it was in Anchorage and I was like "dooood!" Then watching this video, just now, I'm like "ayo! I drive past that school on a regular basis!"
The bar is in front of the person, you can see it clearly. In one of the directions the person would be in front of the bar instead, and if that was the case we wouldn't be able to tell what was in front (if u don't see the bar it can be due to many things) but since we see the bar, the only possibility is that it's in front of the person. If you make a quick 3d model (even mentally) you'll realize the only way to be behind the bar is if you're facing the camera, in this situation. :D
There are two ways to prove which way the person is facing. The person moves behind the bar at the right end of the swing's range of motion, which means the person is facing the camera. Also, the camera's position is to the right of a location in line with the swing's motion, which means legs on the left indicate the person is facing the camera.
the answer is pretty easy to prove: when the person goes for the back swing (standart swinging motion being, that you pull your legs backwards) and you pause the video at the highest point of the swing, the crossbar is in front of the person. that is definitive proof that the person has to be facing the camera.
At the 0:19 second mark, you can clearly see the person behind the horizontal bar that the chains are attached to. Based on this and how you move your legs when swinging he is facing the camera, kicking legs forward to gain momentum as he swings toward the camera.
You can tell if u look closely by her feet if they are tucked or straight and look if hes behind or infront of the bar her back is at the school and shes facing to the far left of the camera
So they are facing forward. Best indicator is the snow on top of the swing seat, you can clearly see white snow accumulated on the left (our left) side of the swing seat, and we can also see the bottom of the dark colored seat on the right side. This tells us that, facing the front of the swing set, we are back about 50-60 feet and to the right at almost a 45 degree angle. I watched this on a large TV, so the second thing that popped out was the pole profile breaks the person’s profile on the back swing. Also, now that I’m thinking about it, it would be pretty fuckin odd to face the building and swing, also swinging facing away from where your friend(s) are, weird. Think that’s a case closed there bubba.
Great video-thanks for the process! I look forward to seeing more information on this. I think this would be a fun and useful tool, maybe even a future career xD. Oh, and by the way, they are facing toward the camera. If you want me to explain, just ask!
At the 0:19 second mark, you can see the person moves behind the top beam on the "back swing", which indicates that theyre facing forward, toward the camera.
Hmm, this reminds me of when I was blogging about whether a modern person would understand the visual pun of the back cover of Pink Floyd's LP Umma Gumma. I discovered that although Wikipedia says it is the band's equipment laid out on a runway at Biggin Hill Airport, it is in fact not a runway, but a taxiway off to the side of the actual runway. Google Maps aerial view, the direction of shadows for the time of day, asymmetry of the sides of the tarseal, etc.
You don't even need to find the playground. From above, the swingset looks vaguely like this, with the camera as the period >---< . He either swings like >-\-< if his back is to the camera, or >-/-< if his front is to the camera. In either case, he is parallel to the
I'm obviously very impressed with your methods and the fact that you were able to find this school, but the answer is at 0:19 when you see them go behind the top bar of the swing set.
"its actually really easy to do" So first i stalked this guy on tik tok, then i wrote some code to show me specific areas on maps, then i exported those to a file
definitely facing the camera as you can see a bit of snow on the foot that passes overtop of the leg which would not happen if they were facing away from the camera.
When someone says their isn't enough information. It's almost certain it means "the answer isn't obvious so I didn't find it quickly" If the poster has more than 1 video immediately you have more location info. We need more of this content!
the answer is pretty easy to prove: when the person goes for the back swing (standart swinging motion being, that you pull your legs backwards) and you pause the video at the highest point of the swing, the crossbar is in front of the person. that is definitive proof that the person has to be facing the camera.
So you are learning GIS? Very cool , would be curious to see more on that
“Yes there is enough data, and it’s actually really easy to do”
*proceeds to explain his 39 step process to finding it*
You are a legend rainbolt
Stoked for Geoguesser, Mars edition in a few decades
At the 0:19 second mark, you can clearly see the person behind the horizontal bar that the chains are attached to. Based on this and how you move your legs when swinging he is facing the camera, kicking legs forward to gain momentum as he swings toward the camera.
I'm convinced everyone has that same desk chair. I am literally sitting in it right now
You can tell if u look closely by her feet if they are tucked or straight and look if hes behind or infront of the bar
her back is at the school and shes facing to the far left of the camera
My stalking game just got an upgrade. Thank you, sir.
Play at 0.75 to understand speech
I played at 2 time speed and didn‘t even notice before this comment
“Its very simpel”
The proceed to use lines of code that im never know was possible
FBI: We know where you live
Rainbolt: "How I found the FBI Agent in this video"
FBI: 💀
Man can find Laurel AND Yanny
simple process but with amazing result, I would just enjoy watching more like this one.
If I put together a spy team, the first person I would add would be a geoguesser like rainbolt
We need this guy to find the Skinny Bob alien crash location and the house they flew over, I was close but I'm not as skilled as this guy
This is great, 🎉 please more
when the person goes all the way back up, you can see they're behind the bar meaning the person is swinging towards the camera
I enjoyed your vid!
we need to make sambucha watch this video
Man is a straight up genius, but kept saying perpendicular instead of parallel.
100% facing camera, you can kinda see the pole infront of them swinging
You don't even need to find the playground. From above, the swingset looks vaguely like this, with the camera as the period >---< . He either swings like >-\-< if his back is to the camera, or >-/-< if his front is to the camera. In either case, he is parallel to the
I'm obviously very impressed with your methods and the fact that you were able to find this school, but the answer is at 0:19 when you see them go behind the top bar of the swing set.
I literally have never seen that swing video before in my life until this video lmfao
it'd be awesome to more videos like this!
Rainbolt still on his mewing streak as always 🥶 ✊✊
"its actually really easy to do"
So first i stalked this guy on tik tok, then i wrote some code to show me specific areas on maps, then i exported those to a file
This guy is a genius
definitely facing the camera as you can see a bit of snow on the foot that passes overtop of the leg which would not happen if they were facing away from the camera.
She’s obviously facing the cameraman. Just look at the legs
imagine 5king the confusing swinger boy in the snow to win the game
When someone says their isn't enough information. It's almost certain it means "the answer isn't obvious so I didn't find it quickly"
If the poster has more than 1 video immediately you have more location info. A lot of people wonder how you find a random tree from a video and it's like they didn't. They found a random tree from a series of videos
I challenge you to Play Wooorld on Meta Quest 3. It's a 360 VR GeoGuessing game, you get teleported to some random Google Streetview location in the world and you have to guess what City, Country or Continent you're in. This is the future (present actually) it feels like some sci-fi movie
