It's the biggest compliment when people accuse you of cheating when you're not.
To them, what you're doing is so impossible and godlike that there's no other explanation.
Not really. Because it means they don't believe you are capable of doing it without cheating.

I cant understand the people who call him out...if you follow metas and play the game enough, his guesses are totally logical.
It's a law of the universe. The less someone knows about something, the more confidant they are that they're right.
It's not that people don't think it's possible, it's just that the game is so easy to cheat at that we're all basically waiting for some randomer to come along and do it for the views.

A lot of people when they first saw me solve a Rubik's cube thought I had memorized the scramble and I always have to say "that would actually be way more impressive"
i can solve a rubik's cube and even if you did memorise a scramble the solving process would not look at all like a normal solve
The difference is there ar only a handful of algos for rubik’s cubes that you follow to solve every possible scramble. Memorizing a handful of repetitive movements isn’t even in the same realm as memorizing thousands of unique things about every country and every region.

@@SnailHatanAs someone who is both a geographer and a cube addict, it's surprisingly harder to remember all the cube patterns, because no one does that "solution" as an actual permanent method of solving, after all, there are less stars than possible cube combinations.

Tbh when I first saw him I thought he was cheating because it's just so common for people to fake content for views (and also guessing a location based on how dirt looks in a photo seemed impossible...) but if you spend any time watching his videos you can see it's legit, he breaks down the process pretty well
well the looks of dirt or grass or trees are very different in different places you know
It’s for entertainment, it’s not real, he showed this when he trolled by guessing locations by “looking at the sky”, and literally just looking at a blank white or blue screen and picking the exact location, but still some people haven’t caught on

He’s not cheating but I don’t think Geo guesser is an accurate representation of understanding geography, at the end of the day certain countries or areas have a certain look and especially with geo guesser if you look through different pictures of the same place enough you’ll pretty quickly be able to identify it but it’s really just a memory thing and I think the actual geography of these places is more diverse than the pictures they show

@@PyroAqua not really a lot of his guesses come from really niche stuff like blurs in the camera, features of the Google streetcar, etc. but yes it also involves a lot of geography

I can't remember if it was Mozart of Liszt (or even Chopin) but there was an anecdote of a young prodigy who was chased out of a music hall because the audience refused to believe he was so skilled at such a young age and thought they were being deceived!
You could easily put a camera behind you and show your home desk to dispel all those assumptions.
He already did that in his eye tracker video. We also get a chance to see his setup!
Or you could just learn about the game and realize that what he's doing is completely in the realm of possibility
@Charlie Thompson what makes you think he’s cheating? All of his guesses are very reasonable if you understand how the game works. He’s also been able to find the location of pictures that his viewers send him based off small details, he just knows geography.

When you get pretty good, you develop intuition that noobs can't conceive of and some of the nore reactionary types of people jump to the conclusion that you're cheating.
Well, there are 10000 photo for a country. But there are 100 things that every photo contains. He doesn't need to memorize 10000 photos, but 100 key things that could be in every photo.

One of the things that helps him is learning which countries use telephone poles and how they're used a long with the roads and the lines on them.
I would get so scared that my teachers would think I’m cheating because I look up and around to try and remember what I studied so I make sure to remember to close my eyes every time

People don’t understand that geoguesser has certain meta. Memorising certain little characteristics such as flora or road markings is quite doable. Not to say that this guy perfected the knowledge of the meta, but people rly overestimate how difficult what he does is

For those who call him out, I recommend watching him and see what he does when he does get it wrong.
Usually he will realise key signs he missed, remark upon them, and how to improve.
Furthermore he doesn't gloat on the ones he got right. He looks into the ones he got wrong. He does know telltale signs of how to tell which country he is in

The closest thing I could relate to this (and I’m not even sure it’s a close comparison) is Rubiks Cubes. Used to think I’d never solve one but now I love it and people flip out. It’s like a party truck.

Using clues like the positioning of the sun and the specific trees/greenery really narrows it down a bunch. The rest is very small details like signs, architecture, etc…

Being a god at GeoGuessr might just be one of the most useless but spectacular abilities
I knew the Bangladesh one immediately having been there. When i think about it there are so many ways to narrow down where a photo was taken that its not surprising thst someone can do it so quickly, whats amazing is that he understands all the factors and can apply them at the drop of a hat.
In 48 laws of power, there is one that states that it is better to do difficult things like it is easy, because people will be far more impressed.
Casually, it shows the example of Houdini, the magician, and his tricks. In his case, it was no more than infinite practice what it led him to the godlike level, but people will always try to imagine whatever phenomena to explain it.
So to me, if he got to this level, when he makes it look easy, and people give weird explanations about how he does it, I just can say, congratulations
