Growing up as a kid in a small farming town in the Missouri Bootheel, I remember seeing a 2 row corn header on a International Harvester. Oliver Tractors, plowing fields. John Deere "Popping Johns" and I will never forget seeing the 1st 2 row cotton picker. How farming has modernized has always fascinated me and that little cotton top boy still lives within me today at almost 60 years old I still stop and watch farm equipment today with fascination

I grew up on a family farm in the 70s and 80s. We ran about 800 acres or so, which was a good sized operation for our area back then. We would've never even dreamed of running enough ground to need equipment like this. I still live in the area where I grew up but, unfortunately, not on the same land. I don't farm myself but, I have several friends that do and I help them when they need it. It never ceases to amaze me how, even in my area, the size of farms and, the technology that is used on them has changed over the years. When I was coming up, our "big" tractor was a 7080 Allis Chalmers with 180 horsepower. These days, my buddies run rigs with 3x that power and they more or less drive themselves!

Lots of ground is an under statement. But what also help is their field are in southwestern KY. They have contracts with the local distilleries in Tenn and KY. Plus the sell lots of corn to a ethanol plant there in KY. They are getting a pretty good price per bushels so I'm sure they trade in combines every 2 years I'd say.

Just finished our second season with a C12F corn head. It’s a great head, and has some really nice improvements over the 712FC it replaced. Little bit better vision folded and the end shields don’t need put back down to fold the head. On the 712 I had to get out, clean debris out from where the shields slide in and out, and then get back in and fold. And get out again to put them back up. The integrated roll cones are nice too. I believe it folds faster too.

I'm fairly new to this kind of equipment, so please be easy on me. I'm considering purchasing this corn head but would like to ask some questions from current owners. Background: my wife and I (more my wife) have a fairly small field where we grow mostly rhubarb. When I say mostly I mean 90% of the field, the rest being a scattering of tulips and sunflowers. Our field butts up to our house at one point being about 10' from the foundation. The field itself is roughly 10'x20'. Our crop doesn't make any money but it goes to great use within our local neighborhood group of friends: suburbs, pies/teas/chili (I know that probably doesn't matter but most people ask this question so I figured I may as well get that out of the way).
    My questions are:
    - How much does this cost to use and maintain, say per month, with just me and some basic DIY tools? I'm fairly handy. I've heard some horror stories about John Deere and getting replacement parts, but I've also heard "it's no big deal" so I'm not sure.
    - It being the case that we need to harvest as close as 10' from the house, is this safe? I should add that we have a couple very curious dogs, but they tend to run from loud sounds. As far as kids we have a 1.5 year old and a 3 year old that like to play in the back yard when the weather permits. I'm open to putting some padding on the teeth if that would help avoid disaster.
    - I don't have much heavy lifting equipment, just a 1-ton chain hoist, so it would be a challenge to mount this. How often does it need to be removed for maintenance? The car is a 2014 F150 with Curt 2" front hitch if that matters.
There are probably more questions I would have, but again, being new to this kind of equipment I don't know what I don't know. Thanks!

It's interesting that if you scale the total bushels going thru an x9 in 3000hrs... it'll be completely shot...whereas I have seen 9600 with nearly 6700hrs having done 4x less bushels in the same time and will have been rebuilt 10x. Hope the x9 has some pretty heavy sheet metal. Impressive speed

That thing is sure nice, both the header and the machine. It can sure eat the crop.

It is amazing how many acres an X9 will cover vs an S700.

Between the trucks, combines and carts there must be $7 million dollars in that field.
I don't think I'm smart enough to even make the combine move let alone harvest corn.
    Amazing machines.

I do believe the weight limit on that bridge is being surpassed multiple times as I'm certain that giant combine along with each of those tractors weight in excess of 16 tons.
