Why would he ever go to City. Micah says he is guaranteed trophies at City, and he would have been for sure, but Ronaldo has won everything City competes for with Man Utd. There is no prestige he is missing out on for winning those trophies with City. He used them to get the United board to act.

Nobody 'played' anyone. City would've taken Ronaldo for the additional goal threat. His scoring this season has been good even in a poorly coached United side that's been losing loads of matches.
If he'd gone to City he would've done well and City would've continued to be successful.

City's 'interest' in Ronaldo forced Woodward to commit their remaining £75m to yet another forward. It's the art of war and pep played a blinder. Look how poor and unbalanced United look with no midfield, they can hardly create a chance for their team of superstar strikers and leak goals for fun. I'm not a City fan by far but this transfer shows the genius of Pep, single handedly moving United away from having any chance of challenging and closer to being midtable. One less horse in the race for him to worry about.
Don't forget that City never actually made an offer to Ronaldo, just started a media frenzy to force United's hand. Woodward got played for sure.
