Mikey you absolutely kept it together with Godzilla. I would not have been so nice. Just a suggestion I would have him paid for the refrigerant to refill the condenser. You might have done that off video. Godzilla needs to go to school in the evening to learn HVAC. In my humble opinion some people just don't have the aptitude to learn on the job. I've been training FF for a long time not everyone is suitable for the job your trying to teach them. I give you lots of kudos for being patient with him. I don't know anything about HVAC however I'm teachable. I'm not so sure of Steven.
Hopefully you won't have to cut him loose.
This guy is an idiot, When you take on an apprentice you take on the responsibly of them making mistakes. If you are a waitress and drop a plate, you don't expect the waitress to pay for that plate. Also New York Law "" No, employers cannot charge employees for mistakes, shortages, or damages. Only if you agree (in writing) that your employer can deduct from your pay for the mistake."" If you dont like him or he isnt working out then do the responsible thing and fire him. YOU took the responsibility of training an apprentice. I do agree however to get him into classes.
@@johnburk2012 take a good look in the mirror and you will see an idiot.
@@johnburk2012 I have to agree. He knows he fucked up he said as much. He'll be more careful next time.
@Flair Hickory that’s what they call me at the firehouse
Mike, dude. That was stellar. Absolutely the right way to handle this issue. He fucked up (as we all do) and you kept it together. You just bumped up a notch on my respect meter.
Godzilla also handled that mistake really well. He owned his mistake, let Mike know right away, and wanted to fix it. I doubt he'll make it again soon. People fuck up, but he made the right moves in dealing with it.
Yeah, he sure did. It takes good character to have the guts to own it. Good job Godzilla!
Patient teachers and role models like you make good HVAC techs and plumbers. Godzilla is lucky to have you. Thank you for passing it on. You’ve earned my respect. Mikey Pipes your the man. 👍🙏👍
Don't think I've ever heard Mikey pipes grunting and groaning that much before
I think our attic has yours beat for worst attic ever (1800s barn converted to house in the 1920s). Installer was shaking his head when he first saw it. But they did a great job. Hats off to all that do great work under less-than-ideal conditions. Really appreciated.
I appreciate it how you say Yelling him it’s not gonna help👌👍🏻
Gotta give it to you for dragging that thing out fully loaded I always take coil and blower out takes a little longer but much easier on the back
One word Zilla!!!🔥🤙
Good video. I also have cut the wrong line to a walk in cooler before. It was bad... 30+ lbs. live and learn. You should invest into the reverse bender attachment for your yellow jacket bender. A little pricey for a piece of metal but makes bending in tight spots manageable.
Like others commented we all screw up, its what experience is made up of. Him admitting it and you handling it well are both signs of professionalism.
Wow, I give you kudos Mike. Great job and patience with Zilla. I love your content, I watch all I can. Sorry, I rode you yesterday. I watch guys all day long criticizing and degrading fellow workers, not critiquing and helping. We need to build the next generation of hands on techs. It’s embarrassing the males of today. Not a clue on how to hammer a nail, never mind brazing copper. Keep up the great content.
Godzilla is learning how to breed flame now LOL fire extinguisher nearby
Godzilla, if you heat the bottom of the fitting, you shouldn't have to move the torch all that much. Start with the heat at 6 o'clock and the most you'll have to move is to 8 o'clock and 4 o'clock. Start with the brazing rod at 10 and/or 2 and it should flow nice for you.
No, you're a good teacher. Lots of patience for sure.
@@PipeDoctor think you explained it pretty well. Just takes practice.
Brazing, not the same as soldering, a little more heat on the line will make that silver solder flow better. Only time I ever heard my boss cuss (he was a church pastor) was when our install crew cut loose the wrong unit at a church. You handled that really well, good job.
The rose bud works really well on bigger pipes, I usually carry a #4 tip to do up to 3/4 and 7/8, but if I am doing commercial work were it is 1 1/8" I will use the rose bud tip
Damn that was content. You all are the real deal. Mike, the learning moment with zilla was classy.
Whats with all the wires?
We installed a 5 ton heat pump and 100thusand natural gas a month ago very quiet going to try to do more. Ooohhh no Godzilla , not as bad as what I did 16 years ago drilled into a 10 ton hanging a disconnect. And yes got my ass handed to me. Keep the videos coming
Your patience with Godzilla will reward you with a good technician in the end but you need to keep pushing him to do better! He admits to his mistakes and that is good! Now he has to learn from them and not repeat them! Great installation not so rough as attic installations go ! Better now than in July!
Stand-up Guy, that Peter Smart 👍🏻
He doesn't care He'll NEVER be back. DEMINIMUS! Snug those packings on the torch. Get it hot first don't swipe at it. Remember the HEAT draws it in. Steven is a Learner. Good Job
Nice video. Should also have Godzilla practice brazing on scrap copper in the shop to hone in his skills.
Mikey pipes! Bless me with some bad bunny tickets!
The number you see on the display of the Bosch unit, without hitting any buttons, is the percent capacity that the compressor is running at
You do know that you can take the blower fan and the coil out to make the air handler a little lighter!
I appreciate saint mike immensely akways helpful and generous so tell a friend about MIKEY PIPES
Why did you break R i always tell the guys to break Y because you want to have some type of air movement. You'll know when you don't have cool air blowing out of the vents. Personal preference "Tell Godzilla keep up the good work he'll get it the more he practices!"
Watching him braze the filter dryer had my butt clenched so hard. "Too close! Move it around! It's burning a hole!"
🥵
@@PipeDoctor Not hating that at all. I appreciate your patience and your willingness to look past minor things to focus more on making sure he learns properly.
I might be starting a helper job soon, and I hope my ride along is as chill as you Mikey.
If we dont teach someone right from wrong, then the responsibility is on us. Everyone needs to learn and nobody knows everything. We all need to have have a slice of thee ole humble pie from time to time.
Nice job always learning from your videos
What a nasty attic job! Great work Saint Mike and Godzilla. I usually take out the blower and coil individually then fold up the cabinet and it makes those tight nasty places a little more manageable. Great work fellas, love the channel as always!
Good video, however it may have been prudent to let Steve practice on scrap in the shop before going ‘live’.
IS that a fire breathing Godzilla I see. Rose bud is over kill. Tiny tip acetylene has more control. Well worth the watch. Great video
I agree
godzilla better hide the EPA police are coming for him. Critical mistake.
@@PipeDoctor well only one way to learn. im sure he will be triple checking it before he cuts the rest of his life. glad he did it on your dime lol
Mikey, you did a good job with the teachable moment. I taught various medical procedures in nursing school (I’m a 25 plus year RN) and, although not complicated to me, to a newbie it could be (such as enemas, catheters, injections, sutures and the other nice things they do to ya). You were calm and a very good teacher. Yelling just frustrates and pisses the student off and they block you off.
Here’s Super tech comment... should put micron gauge above the line so no oils or contaminants leak down into the sensor. That’s why the micron gauge coupler is at that 45 degree angle to keep sensor clean 👌
Ya braze only flows where the heat goes🙌🏼
Great video, that attic was a giant cluster with all that crap running everywhere.
Mike nice job as usual. Use mars disconnect with built in surge protector also weigh in charge and remember you do not need gauges to charge Bosch 2.0 use circuit board much more accurate than your gauges.
“What are you a fucking blow torch like Rambo” 😂😂 tough attic but turned out nice.
Scale is important. If you’re not weighing you’re guessing. Maybe Explain hydrostatic tanks to good old Zilla.
Be careful of those gorilla condensate emergency drain pans, they dry rot and brake.
I don't use them anymore.
Love the videos.
In the words of another famous CZcams plumber "what a sh*t show Momma!" Great work.
"And they should". Lol.
And then no one gives him any crap.
Godzilla has mastered the craft of public relations.
It's nice to see you make a teachable moment from Godzilla's mistake. As you said, he needs to do his homework, as it seems clear that he is lacking some background knowledge in HVAC. Stick with him, he'll get it.
looks like a scene from a chrome plated terminator movie.
The Filter needed changing, Godzilla knew what he was doing. 😉 but his end should have been reamed besides the pipe .
Big stones Mr. Skinny Jeans you owned up to your mistake. That shows true character and I’m absolutely sure you will learn from and not make that mistake again. Now be a good fella and buy the Mikes lunch. 👍 👍 🇨🇦
Got an install coming up, same everything.
I use both; liquid gel spray and wet rag.
I only use wet rag once and through away.
If you have not cut the WRONG line set; you have not done enough installation's.
Hey Mike! My husband had me watching your show now...., you guys got me laughing.. especially Gozilla messed up 🤦♀️lol. We will definitely be watching this Great Videos!
Gotta just say you guys are scaring the crap out of me brazing without safety glasses...and I have no clue how you both handled the air handler swap out 😂😂😂...you bring up a good point though: when you sell a new system, do you normally include a 10 year parts and labor warranty? I got one with my Trane S9V2 furnace and A/C...curious
Just for future references those evaporators and drain pans are able to be flipped for either orientation.
In Refrigeration cycle it is necessary to debur and clean the sharp edge cutting whenever you cut Copper pipe by any tube cutter so the oil and Refrigerant liquid could flows easily and passes back to condensing units easily .
Shit happens man just fix it and move on cant let the whole fucking day revolve around it you handled the issue good mike
Godzilla movin on up... good job I’d take u to work on any day I could🤘🤘
nice that you didnt get mad at your help 4.5lbs of r410a lost what we have here is failure to communicate tight attic my back hurt just looking at it make GODZILLA pay for new drier and the 410A he wont be so quick to use the tube cutter next time
You can wire the ahu to 2 stage cooling . And the unit will stage up and down according to the blower speed
I'm suprised you didn't break the air handler down.
Great job . Nice install.
@@PipeDoctor i hear that
LOTS of DIY low voltage wiring?? Oops!!! lots of units lots of pipes.. have to work smarter (even if it means slower). to double check.. learning to braze is a huge skill.. Godzilla you are doin it!!! awesome!! Let the pipe melt the rod not the flame
You’re videos are fantastic. Very helpful and educational. 120 microns. That’s insane. Those blue hoses make a difference. It almost looks like you collapsed the liquid line at the air handler. I didn’t watch the whole video so not sure. But amazing job, keep up the great work.
Pulling vacuum from both sides is kind of redundant plus it really doesn't help to me anyways..
All you need to do is use a vacuum only hose like a Appion 1/2 with 3/8 and 1/4 ends. 3/8 to vacuum pump and 1/4 on the VCT. Place vacuum on VCT on suction side, then place micron on other side connected with a vct. This way you can isolate and release refrigerant without gauge contamination.
I don't know how the YJ vacuum gauges are but the Fieldpiece goes bananas if you get any refrigerant or oil in them hence why i always connect them via VCT's.
This video has it on liquid side without a vct, but after i always used one, my other was messed up so i had to but this shows how to ensure you have a solid leak proof seal because if you pull from suction port and it reads on liquid port, you know the complete line circuit is leak free and sealed.
Go easy on ya tech.. Accidents happens, could have happened to the best of us. Ya get busy, forget to check etc.
VACUUM VIDEO: czcams.com/video/VgGEKGGBqKY/video.html
@@PipeDoctor That just pulls from both sides to make vacuum quicker. I have had talks with Jim Bergman and he admits the way i am doing it gives you the best accurate readings due to when you isolate the vacuum you are reading the entire circuit of refrigerant pipes at the source..
It kills me when i see people pull vacuums and put a gauge inline etc with the hose, you have to read the source of what you are vacuuming, which is the line set etc. Not the hose. You can see people doing it all the time on CZcams.. Like nails on a chalkboard.
By placing one side for vacuum, and the other end with the gauge, you get a perfect and precise reading of the lines you wish to vacuum as a whole.
All you are doing when you pull on both sides simultaneously is lowering the time it takes. You could still do it that way however you will lose just a smidge when you isolate the one side to install a gauge to read it, if you place it on the VCT auxiliary port, then it negates the shutoff valve thus allowing refrigerant to contaminate said sensor, hence why you have to put it on the end of the VCT instead. I suppose you could put the hose itself on the aux port but again you will lose a smidge when undoing it etc.
I bet he had something in his underwear after he cut that lol 😂
tighten up the gland nuts on the torch valves and see it will control much better!
Dang G...you started him off with the rose bud huh?....you gone learn today.....HVAC on my guy....
Tough one but great job.
Cut out them cigs lol.😂
I’m jealous of how quiet that seems.
I learned basic electronics soldering in order to get better at my hobby, which is collecting and restoring pinball machines and classic arcade games. Good soldering is a must for that. I practiced, A LOT, on bad/discarded parts before trying on PCBs worth hundreds of dollars. If I had just jumped in "on the job" I would have fucked up too. Have Godzilla practice off-hours using scrap materials under your guidance.
I've watched a lot of your videos and I'm very impressed about your workmenship but with this install you took a shortcut. By bending the line set and kinked it. I was disappointed that you did not fix it properly. Sometimes its better to take your time then to work fast. Keep up the good work
I also notice the kinked high pressure 3/8” copper line by the air handler.
Does the 3/8” line @47:05 look a bit odd?
Also it was great you used the “oopsie” moment to teach :). Overall great video thanks
Hi Mikey,
Why they have so much heatpumps by every house there in your state/country can't that be done with one or two heatpumps?
And when I see dose attics with all the flexducts and cable/wires I can cry 😢
Don't you haven't any inspection over there.
Ps greetings from the Netherlands 🇳🇱
I love your channel keep on going.👍👍
Glad u kept it togheter with the mistakes some ppl forget what its like to be new however if u train alot of people u get to recognise the different type of people u can get. There are people who will totally crumble if u yell at them in that situation and they need a saint like u to build there confidence, if they are worried about beeing yelled at it takes up space in their mind that could be used for learning and then u have the people who seem not to care ( i personally cant train these people ) they are the ones that seem to need a stern hand and if u dont put the fear of god in em they just dont do it, i feel its more of a 50/50 if they ever learn to become a good technician and at worst they just become this asshole that thinks they know because they are to stubborn to admit that they are wrong. And u have the gentle giants, good hearted ppl who want to learn but just cant, they will fuck up every day and seem to retain no info, its very sad when u have to let em go but it is what it is. Of course this is not black and white and people land somewhere in the middle but there is no one size fits all way of teaching people. Just my 2 cents.
Another good and informative video. Mike, the new Bosch brochure describes the 2.0 as able to modulate between 36 and 130 % compared to the brochure it replaced which indicated the 2.0 would modulate between 25 and 110 5. Did Bosch change compressors for the 2.0?
@@PipeDoctor Understand. The low amp usage is an attractive feature
In the last video, Mikey Pipes asked, 'What the fuck is this, Steven?". In this video, *I* ask a similar kind of question: "Why the fuck are neither of you wearing safety glasses while brazing?" Do you want to take the chance of flying hot metal hitting one or more of your eyeballs?
That board scares me with the rain. I hope that part is water tight
Godzilla needs to take notes and watch your videos on how you do it so that he can learn quicker.
I use 10 acetylene,40 oxygen easy to remember 10-4 good buddy
That is not quite tight it gets tight when you are crawling over the flex and can’t even sit up and yes you must install a full size air handler in such a cramped space up in the attic they must’ve installed when the roof was off.
Godzilla Brother you should have remind Our Brother Mike to remember deburing and clean the internal sharp edges cut by Copper tubes cutter. That called " Present Mind " dear Godzilla 👍👍😇
Sucks Godzilla had to make such a mistake on social media and be beat up by all the keyboard techs. Mike the way you handled that is the way I have handled things as people don't learn by constant yelling and belittling, to me that is only called for if stupid mistakes happen over and over. If that becomes the case then we know it is time to sever ties. AT LEAST HE HAD HIS BOOTS TIED TODAY!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 JUST HAVING FUN! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.
It was so obvious that line took a right turn into the other condensor, I believe godzilla gets over zealous and doesn't view his surroundings, I believe he did this before. You can Get hurt that way, especially the eyes in this business, we get eye level when cutting.

Good job. My boss is the same way when I mess up!! Maybe zilla should change hands when brazing.
At least it was flex. We have tons of super tight attics and it all damn hard pipe 😢😢
That was not a 20AMP breaker. There were two tied together, to make a 40A. 20A might run a vacuum cleaner, but not much more.
Hey Mikey there is a test button on that bord and I've seen as high as 12 amps on that heat pump when it goes full capacity it depends on the load inside so much for efficiency on that especially if you are not using heat pump option.
You really got to be kidding me!
That huge cost increase over a standard 16 seer unit and huge costs to repair after warranty, it's hard to justify the investment with not much of a energy savings. Neat systems for those with the budgets but I just could never advise any customer to ever buy one. Work on a ton of the commercial systems and they simply are not as reliable, parts are always special order. Work on commercial and residential VFD systems and they simple are not reliable as a basic system, repair costs are insane for what little extra saving a person sees. Never enough to justify almost double the cost for them
@@PipeDoctor Yes the technology is here and eventually the EPA will mandate them. Yet from my experience commercial and residential, they just are not as reliable at all compared to traditional system's. I talk nearly everyone out of them, there is simply more cons then pros to them. The average person will never see enough energy saving to justify the upfront cost.
They cost substantially more for just a little more in energy savings, parts are rarely available when we need them. Repair costs are huge after a warranty. Just repaired a trane inverter system for a customer and our cost for just the special order inverter board and compressor was 1700 plus freight, it cost him as much as a whole new 16 seer system. They are neat systems but a lot companies are clueless on them and have no business touching them. They absolutely need to have surge protection installed on them.
