All-new Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Review - The perfect driver’s car?

After a day in this new GT4, he came back to the office, dropped off the keys and announced that he’s getting a tattoo of this new Porsche. And that’s pretty much everything you need to know about this new Cayman.
With a naturally aspirated 4-litre flat-6, mounted midships, with power running through a 6-speed manual (Porsche’s double clutch PDK is also available) to the rear wheels, the recipe for a proper driver’s car, on paper at least, is pretty much perfect.
In reality, the recipe is sublime.
One of the most difficult things about reporting on this particular Porsche is what do you compare it to? The BMW M2 CS costs similar money and offers similar performance and power, but it’s a very different car, with it’s engine up front and much higher centre of gravity.
No, the Cayman GT4 is in a class of one. In this video, our video guy Ciro De Siena takes our very yellow test unit out for blast and returns feeling similar to Ashley, except he doesn’t like tattoos.

I've always just loved the shape of the Caymans more than the other Porsches.
I’ve always thought caymans were certainly the ugliest of the bunch, I really try to love it though, front end looks amazing, the rear of caymans though.... 🤮

What struck me about the 718 is the value for money. Couldn't believe that it was below R2mill at PORSCHE JHB (The ones on the showroom floor at least) fully decked out with the carbon seats, roll cage and all the bells and whistles its a hair above that. How do you pass on it if you are considering the c63s or the M4???? Its pure Porsche pedigree for almost the price of a performance sedan/ Coupe
There is no turbo and it’s not faster than the other cars

Great video Ciro. As a lucky GT4 owner I can say, many of your comments are spot-on. If you get another chance at driving a GT4, get some track time. It really shines on a track.
Something else to keep in mind, there is no quick grocery store run in one of these. It sucks you in and makes you want to drive drive drive. Its a very addicting ride, for which there is no cure. Other than more driving.
Porsche is providing you with a treat of a lifetime, a month ago was a Turbo S your next treat is Taycan!
You said all that, whilst alone in the car. Hahaha you are the best. This car made a grown man cry.

There's an engineering shop in the states that builds a shorter ratio diff for this gearbox brining the top speed in 2nd down to like 110 or something. This, allegedly, also makes it feel much quicker and torquier(?)...

Great a six speed manual that you won’t use gears four, five or six cause you will be way in excess of the legal speed limit.
Of course u gonna use it lol, don’t wanna cruise around at 7000 rpm just imagine the fuel cost and the engine temperature . Tbh most power of this car is in 2nd or 3rd gear. 4th to 6 th gear is mostly for fuel economies (in the city range of course)

R 1.7 MILLION for this Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 in SA - but FOUR of the ten switches on the centre console are BLANKS! Why not just space the 6 switches provided EQUALLY AT THE TOP - and reshape the trim panel further down from them so that it blends in neatly after that -thereby concealing the fact that you haven't ticked ALL of the available options boxes (of which there are MANY to choose from)?
The blanks DON'T even have the chrome trim on them to help them blend in and make them look similar... they're just plain 'el cheapo' BLACK PLASTIC plugs that you would expect to find in a Datsun Go or Renault Kwid and CERTAINLY NOT in a Porsche...
They could even have gone as follows as well - switch - blank - switch - blank - switch - on either side, to space them out & separate them neatly.
You heard it people the party is at 5000 rpm.
The Jaguar is a better daily but as a special occasion, what the GT4 offers is very hard to beat.

@@Carscoza Such a difficult question. The GT4 is a wonderful drivers car, but given a South African setting (and such beautiful, wild, rugged remote places to visit) I think the last few kms of a journey might not be ideally suited to a low slung sports car. If I lived in SA and my pockets were deep - given journeys are about destinations - I would be very interested in driving something that would be happy on a rough road and therefore whilst it would be compromised, a Ranger Rover Sport SVR would perhaps be my choice.
You should never drive a car that costs more than you're house. Economics real talk!
There is nothing more outdated and cheaper than a manual gearbox on a 120k car. Its a shame how porsche cheat their customers with extra packages. Nothing better than a pdk gearbox, faster top speed, better fuel economy , launch control and in my opinion it should be included as a part of stock equipment.
The Cayman is a driver's car. They offer the GT3 RS with PDK if you concern is maximum speed. Driver's cars are about engagement with the driver.
@@bryantharris5914 :-) 420hp is for calm people who wants a daily driver experience and does not need dual clutch gearbox, thats the reason of not include pdk as stock equipment.
@@MD-qp8gj Nobody doubts about Porsche quality, however one of their main ways of being more profitable is with their expensive extra packages.
They sell excelent engineered cars but with poor stock equipment even thought their incredible high prices. A good sample is this 120k
car, with manual gearbox so if you want pdk you must adquire it apart. When you buy a car, some amount of money is destinated to car
transportation from factory to your dealership, but Porsche do a better bussiness ( its a like a joke ). Do you want to save us money
and come to Stuttgart to get your car? Ok, we will charge you because this is an extra too!
In South Africa the PDK gearbox is a no-cost option. You choose your poison...
