Choice is a blessing. Gearbox snobbery is rampant with “purists”. Dare someone buy the paddle option, they’re bombarded with “why?” or “should have got the manual” or “for people with no skill”. All the while, the same people worship the #Porsche GT2 and 3RS.
I don’t get hung up on such things. PlayStation vs Xbox, Marvel VS DC, M vs AMG… manual vs #PDK. I like to enjoy the whole spectrum, particularly when each has it’s own charm!
Now apart from that, though the 718 seems like a nip tuck, there are huge changes in the 718 version GT4 vs the previous gen. The engine for starters, is a whole new bespoke unit based on the current 992’s 3.0 turbo, but with the turbos removed and borred out to 4.0. Despite the size and stroke, its not related to the GT3 engine at all.
In the PDK it gives some amazing figures. 414BHP, slightly higher torque at 430NM, and though it’s 30KG heavier PDK GT4 does 60 with an official figure of 3.9 seconds… which is not true. Its much faster. Shorter ratio 7th gear, meaning slightly earlier shifts. Lower revs on motorway driving too, so the whole thing has more breadth of ability.
Further enhancements made to mechanical locking rear differential: in traction and overrun modes, it achieves locking values of 30 and 37 per cent as compared with 22 and 27 per cent - improving longitudinal/ lateral dynamics as well as traction!
Aero has been improved too, with 50% more downforce vs the previous model at 122kg of downforce! The diffuser is the big change, with a rising duct that helps air travel so fast through it, the car is literally sucked on to the road. And of course the Wing is larger than before, with 20% more downforce. Finally the chassis is essentially a mid-engined version of the older GT3’s.
The result is a time at the Nurburgring of 7:28, 12 seconds quicker than before, though that’s the manual time and not the PDK, though it’s likey to be similar.
After this comes the GT4 RS: 500 BHP from the 4.0 engine, likely PDK only, Swan neck wing 3RS like Naca ducts, new Center lock wheels and much more!
But how will it fare on the road, with both the new engine and PDK? Today we explore:
- 981 GT4 vs 718 GT4

Amazing launch control time! Smashed my M2 CS which could only manage 4.0. Can’t wait to see what the 4RS does: do you like the render? I think I’m 99% accurate! 😈🔥
Love what you produce in this channel. Nice to hear someone who expresses their own opinions, appreciates different options and doesn't jump on the manual purists bandwagon
🔥
I like your videos but Porsche bores me to death.
Render is on point
Now that we're no longer a part of the EU does this not mean we're going to get the American spec i.e. without the petrol particulate filter or the EU deep state low decibel exhaust noise? They are all EU regulations and the US spec cars don't have them...
The editor is killing it, great videos. how come this channel is so underrated?? I don't understand.
Thanks man! I actually do all the editing myself. 😆 Channel is growing nicely, just need more people pressing the sub button!
This is probably the highest quality channel on YT and I look many of them!
Probably others buy their way up because this channel deserves millions of subscribers!
The editing is out of this world. the cgi blows my mind
Yeah the editing is seriously impressive. The GT4 RS and BEV Boxster looked real
Biz de burdayızzzz
As an amputee above the knee I would be more than happy with pdk
Me to bro😁
@Dutch Berry it's a better experience for people that retain both legs...
Still can’t believe this channel doesn’t have 1m subs. Keep grinding man!
I remember when Raz was at 50-60k and now he’s up to 300k. From here to 500k won’t take long.

I dont have a million either.
Maybe he only review ultra luxury or sport cars that most people will never afford in their life.
I appreciate how how you left the “Bat-Rang” stuck in the wall at the beginning!
Had to pull it out mid-take 🥲
"look how good it sounds"
I'm trying... 🤣
😂😂
Vibrating eyeballs
Absolute legendary editing. It made me appreciate this car even more. I'm really amazed haha
Cheers mate
Thanks man!
Love the new camera angles of the driving experience. Your videos only get better and better
Always experimenting! Thanks for the feedback
i went from 718 Boxster manual - (special order) to PDK version after a Porsche event at Silverstone - I was convinced
Cayman uses rear strut suspension, the 911 uses a multi link rear. The front suspension is carry over from the 991 gt3, but the rear is unique to the cayman.
Great video and excellent review of the capabilities and changes. You do a fantastic job at comparing cars to each other.
Great review, love all the graphics. 5 stars in production value. I have the manual, no doubt the PDK is superb and faster, but manual is so engaging, and thus rewarding. I’m sticking with the manual
OMG! I fell in love with that EV render 😍
amazing content.
also: "i dont think the pdk is a point against it..." proceeds to regularly and instinctively reach for shifter during entire drive (demonstrating inner thirst to control some of the action)
Exactly. Faster shift times and better 0-60 is great for racing drivers and people who obsess over those things, but driving on the real road is more than just numbers.
i hope the manual elitists die out in the next decade or so
Well done on the RS render! 🔥🔥
I had the 2016 981 GT4 manual. It was quite a bit slower than my previous Cayman S with PDK. Race cars are all PDK for that reason. Shifting is fun but I will be getting the new GT4 and it will be with PDK, 1/2 sec quicker than the manual.
What in the editing hell was that on 3:36?
I have successfully entered another dimension of editing.
Absolutely awesome. :D
I love when you do in-video ads because I can just fast forward past it
I turned down a build slot on the GT4 thinking it wouldn't be different enough over the 981 GT4 I have. I'm regretting that decision (but am back on the list).
Where oh where does anyone accept people on a list?? :)
Every time you do a test on another new Porsche, I think……wow, that’s my new favourite . Every time, like clockwork, I’m smitten anew. I never do this with other brands. Like today, I just love this automobile. What a beauty, both in shape, and in heart and soul. I guess this just shows how easy I am to please, but also how very picky I am.
Absolute sweet spot in the Porsche range. If I could. I would have one of these and then the GT3 Touring
Love the render. Killer video. PDK outstanding...
Woahh, is that gulf orange on that GT4 RS Render?? Gulf orange has got to be one of my favorite porsche colors. You should do a video on porsche’s PTS colors
Tested a 981 GT4 yesterday and the clutch pedal is something else . The pdk might be faster , but it’s not worth it compared to the fun you’re having
My OCD is going crazy with the dirt in that gorgeous car. Superb video and accurate rendering indeed.
That’s not what OCD is, Column.
@@blueberrycobbler If you seen my 06 Z4 you would see what OCD truly is.
Great video! Pleased you like it. I’m collecting mine next week 😆
fantastic work from porsche and fantastic work from you as usual
Having the 981 GT4, and driving within LA notorious traffic at times for different appointments. I would have very much appreciated a PDK option. But waiting for the RS to be made available. Actuality saw the prototype driven on the 405.
An annoyingly huge list for that car at all my local dealers…I’m like 30th even after being a relative frequent buyer
I’ve owned a 981GT4 as well since new and have loved it, and while I’m 3rd on my dealer’s list for an RS, I’m afraid Porsche is going to kill it with the price. You know it’s going to end up being $140-150K with options, and the dealers are going to add $10-20K markup in the US for sure. That’s damn near double the $95K mine cost, and it still won’t have the real Motorsport 4.0L GT3 engine
@@993mike might as well buy a gt3 at that point
@@993mike buy it and sell it. The just get the ref gt4 or gt3.
To me, the GT4RS will be the spiritual successor to my Scuderia. Same weight and HP, better electronics, suspension and aero. Hopefully the GT4RS will be as raw and sharp. Anyway, I have my name down for one a hope to get it in 2023.
I thought the launch was late this year with delivery next year?
epic cars!
Gt4, my favorite machine and has to be a manual...its not about the times but the connection you get
Agreed
confirmed
This is really great content. I appreciate the opinions and clear details of why you like and dislike options. Subbed
Waitlists across the board for even a Cayman or Boxster are crazy. The 992 waitlist alone is almost 2 years in CA!!
Woah, awesome production value :) great watch!
Thanks!
I’ve got a 992 Carrera S first Porsche I’ve ever had & the more I drive it the more i like it. Definitely a different handling experience than a Lotus Exige that i used to have..I still think the Exige handled better being mid engined (could be the weight as well I guess)..never driven a Cayman or Boxster..but I’ve a feeling the GT4 might be more to my liking🤔
Matt at The Smoking Tire showed that the 1-6 gearing of the pdk vs manual version are almost the same, which is kind of a bummer. Also, even though Porsche has kept it quiet, there have been a significant number of engine failures on the 4.0L, and even Porsche stuck with the 3.8 for the Cludsport model
With the 4.0 on the GT4 ????
The best thing about it is the PDK in this car and the Spyder (which I have) is DIALED IN. I have been in Many high end cars with dual clutches including Porsches and none were as fast and smooth. My GT3 RS PDK behaved almost the same but the GT3 RS rattled.... This 4.0 and PDK match up amazing.
Matt watson couldn’t launch it 0-60 in less than 4 sec, good job there xD
Happens! Sometimes these cars don’t cooperate! 😅
@@somerandomfella try 6 with all that weight lol
I think 3.5 is from down hill. It could do in 3.8
interesting, i purchased exactly the same c63s wagon you tested (drifted) based on your review. And just placed an order for a PDK GT4 today after this video! Hopefully I will have an allocation by Q3 next year. Nice video
Editing on point! Made me hit the subscribe button within the first minute.
Really appreciate it, welcome to the family
Pure pleasure. Thx for sharing your experience with us.
GT4RS has the same wheels as the Speedster concept that the production version should have had
Yes they used it on the “rebel” concept too
Agree on the pdk it reminds me of my Ducati quickshifters with auto blip
FYI the exhaust on the GT4 and GTS 4.0L is identical. So you’re probably hearing the difference between the Cayman form and Boxster.
Yup + 200RPM difference but its also not noticeable, Porsche confirmed both cars have identical powertrain except some ECU
The PDK is realy, realy nice. But it reduces the fun in the car in comparison to the manual in my opinion. i feel myself more involved in my GT4 with the manual. more driving the car instead of being driven at some point. In the end - both options are great, even with the long gearing on the manual, because the car is a blast. Especially on the Nordschleife and the winding country roads around it. Love mine.
12:30 some nice solar beam yellow cars back there
Excellent review. Everything covered.
One Sweet Machine and review. Good Job!
Awesome GT! Infact the best in my books!🙌🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I can't decide between manual or PDK. I think the only way to sort it out is to rent one of each. The rear diffuser is so sick, I would get a GTS 4.0 and swap out with the Spyder rear diffuser if possible
Great car. Best sports car for under £100K. 3.5 seconds to 60MPH is so good for a GT4 PDK
C8 Corvette
@@verhu010 he said sports car not gt car
@@Dylan_Dingus Vette has been known as a sports car for 60 years and still is.
the upcoming c8 z06 or the upcoming gtr "r36"
@@NoName-js2ce GTR’s will probably stay above the $100k because of how overrated they are.
Wow. This car is a perfect spec. I have a 981 CS PDK in white. I love that car. But this would be one of free cars I would upgrade to .❤
Excellent review and pdk is fantastic 🔥🔥😎
AMAZING video! The host is very good at what he does. Really really enjoyable.
That is a mental looking car ! Porsche are really launching some great new cars.
Great video. That editing 👏
Great driving footage as always.
Well it all boils down to personal preference. To me driving any car in a manual is exciting. This PDK or automatic whatever you wanna call it just doesn’t give me the same driving experience and pleasure that a manual would. To each his own..you drive what makes you happy for me it will always be a manual.
Great review
very good luck!!
Just ordered my 718 spyder with pdk in shark blue :D
King Of The Road!
Nice video as always🔥, but I'm wondering, when the M5 CS video comes out? Can't wait
Hi from O-Town!!! (Orlando). Excellent presentation, new sub!!!
stick is fun all the time and not only when accelerating (on track)
Love this car and when you drive it you keep getting reminded why! Once again awesome content from RBR! 👍🏼😎
CGI is top, somebody's been learning Maya. PDK even on my 987 Boxster base. A normal person on circuit needs at least semi-auto, just too much to do with a manual...
great effort! subscribed!
I need some rendered image for my technical mattress , can you help ?
What would be better a m2 cs or a gt4 or bit older gt3 ?
12:28 The Sunbeam Yellow C63 Black Series and a yellow GTI
I really don't get the arument that the PDK is better because the ratios are shorter. The problem is that Porsche needs to fix the ratios of the manual car, or offer it with 2 different ratio sets.
Still waiting for my Spyder. Hopefully summer ‘22.
I wonder how the gts 2.5 liter engine will fair against the 4.0 liter engines. Is it faster...
Such a cool car 🤌🏻
How did you find the ceramic brakes compared with the steel ones?
I am curious about this as well. I ordered my 2022 PDK GT4 with PCCB's, but sometimes I question the cost. I do love the feel of the PCCB's though.
I hope the GT4RS will come with a 4.0 like the GT3RS
Very cool Porsche, great video
Aight thanks to your editor, you got a new subscriber!
Edit: I love to see the GT4 RS but I honestly don't think it'll get 500 hps cuz if that happens, the GT3 will serve no purpose in their lineup. I think the power will be buffed to about 450-460ish horses just like the GT3 and GT3 RS's power difference. This is just my opinion though and I could be wrong.
You are reffering to the "old" GT3. There will be a 992 verion of the GT3 and the stats are gonna be pretty mind boggling
I completely agree. 500... no way, they will never do it...
@@DoggyEffect the 992 GT3 is already up and running and it has 510 bhp already.
@@rickvesny5541 Yes I think so too. 500 would mean that the GT4 RS will be a direct competitor to the 992 GT3 and that wont be good to Porsche itself.
Ya no way GT4 will get 500 bhp, who would buy GT3 especially cayman is mid engine.
Would you pick a brand new 2021 GT4 PDK or a used 2018 AMG GTR? 🤔
Lazy with the PDK I'd take the Manual for FTD and control than sitting there..
Always liked this car, if they would just get rid of that bold-on side air intake and integrate it properly!
Love to hear your thoughts on the Evora GT/410. Wow, You have no Lotus love on your channel at all?
I would be interested in a review of the Lotus Emira
I'm not a purist but manual is more fun
that's why this car will never go down in value!
How does this differ from the 718 Cayman GT4? I thought they were the same car at first.
Nice edits. But how do we know you have the car and not edited a camry?
"The exhaust system on that one (GTS 4.0) sounds nothing as exciting as this one does". Bro, it's literally the same exhaust. They sound exactly the same. Listen to them side by side (I have).
Are you sure? I thought is louder?
should I review my s65 final edition
Hi. Do you think porsche will create porsche GT4 electric ?
Brilliant.
WOW!! What a car.
It looks like 0-60 was timed on down hill so probably a little bit misleading?
Would the 718 Spyder sound as good as the GT4? The GT4 sounds glorious!
They are identical cars apart from the roof
If the GT4RS does become a reality with those specs.....it will be be sold out before the first body panel hits assembly line
This needs a NETFLIX series💜
Would you trade one of this for the new m4csl?
This is the car you buy strictly just to tune the engine and unlock what it really can do. Easy 3.5 second car
Bring on the GT4 Touring. That would be the car to get.
It's already available. It's called the GTS 4.0
@@security_threat the GTs is more comfortable than the GT product, more suited to touring so not a proper touring in that regard but the closest we have at the moment!
Nice video now paint the bench please it’s looking tired 👍
Porsche could've done better with GT4's m/t gear ratio for all-around driving
