WHY THE SUICIDE SQUAD IS THE BEST DC MOVIE
Vložit
- čas přidán 16. 08. 2021
- The Suicide Squad has hit theaters and HBO Max and it's gotten a pretty strong reaction from fans.
Now I'm here to tell you just why I think it's the best movie in all of the DCEU.
From returning familiar faces like Harley Quinn and Captain Boomerang to the brilliant new additions of Peacemaker and King Shark... I cover it all.
What was your favorite moment from the movie? Did it hold up for you? Was it AT LEAST better than the first Suicide Squad?
Let me know in the comment section below.

Harley’s bullets turning to flowers and that whole scene actually serves a purpose. It’s to express how she sees things. It’s to take a peek at the beauty she sees in the violence. Or maybe even how she copes with the horrors she lives through.
It reminds me a bit of "meet the pyro" from tf2
Or she just had a lot of weed mixed with a little bit of shrooms right before
Or it’s just fun for the audience
It’s also a callback to the video game _Lollipop Chainsaw_ which James Gunn co-wrote.
@@Wyck1349 it's not there for nothing. If it was just there because, so was Poke-a-Dot-Man's mom showing up in random scenes. This movie is deliberately utilizong the surreal in order to peak into the perception of the characters' minds.
Milton wasn't just some throw away character. He was a valued member of the team.
Who was Milton? His name doesn't ring any of my bells.
Who?
wha-?! Milton he’s been with us the whole time!!! How could you forget??
Yeah guy was a bad ass edris Elba nailed it
I love how when Milton got shot up I was like "wait...that guy was still here?!" And then I saw analysis and spoilers reviews of this movie and I caught Milton walking up in the rain with the team like the Badass he was...The perfect way to explain a throwaway character
Love how polka dots man freaked out when he went into the dressing room of the club. It was so subtle but he saw the topless girl and probably saw a topless version of his mom and he said “oh god” and got more aggressive with the thinker yo get out of there.
It's so many little easter eggs and subtle character choices you miss in the backgrounds due to looking at the main action it's perfect
Like when PDMan gets all weirded out by the dressing room and Thinker turns around like "Aye it's a party mate, what you don't like girls!?" And PDMan starts frailing the gun around, David D def doesn't get a lot of respect
@@distinguishedallureproduct879 I just watched an interview he did the other. I didn’t realize how many DC things he’s been a part of. He’s def becoming one of my favorite actors.
to me - they turn harley bullets and violence to butterfly’s to show how her psyche works. i think it works really well
To me - her presence made Peacemaker thus Bloodsport redundant.
Your right i read that somewhere that's exactly why they did the flowers n stuff..i thought it was cool
100% agree
Harley Quinn Is an acrobatic clown not a psychic I wonder what kinda hack writing it took for her to do this...
@@KennyJ702 wtf, bruh look up what psyche means. also she's psychotic. don't know what you're talking about psychic
Fun fact: the rat that rise on her shoulder is not CGI it was actually two different rats one trained to sit on her shoulder and one that was trained to stand up the other rats were CGI but not the one she carries. That was actually part of what James Gunn required of the actor who is going to play that part, the person had to be comfortable with having rats on her.
I actually yelled "No!" when they killed Polkadot Man. They actually made people care about POLKADOT MAN. That alone deserves an Academy Award.
My favorite part is when Harley gets emotional when Rick said they were coming to rescue her
My favorite part was when she snapped that guys neck with her thighs...
@@alexanderchippel same. A nice way to die.
@@alexanderchippel That's EVERYONE'S favorite scene.
@@alexanderchippel down bad
My fav scene is when they killed the resistance lmao
James Gunn purposefully just put a "The" in front of the title, he thought it was funny, and the studio loved it.
6:09 I completely agree! She makes you hate Amanda Waller exactly how much you should hate her & yet still shows why someone like her is needed for her job!
she was a spot on comic accurate amanda waller....love they kept her afro from the comics too
Seriously she was fucking terrifying I forgot that this was a fictional character especially when she threatens to blow the heads of the squad
The reason for Harley Quinn's bullets becoming flowers is that James Gunn worked on Lollipop Chainsaw so he wanted an element of innocence combined with over the top violence
Speaking of Lolipop Chainsaw, I hope Suda makes a Suicide Squad game sometime in the future.
Underrated game with good boss fights
It also doubles as a look into Harley's Psyche.
They indeed did mean to recast Idris Elba as Deadshot, they decided midproduction to change him to Bloodsport so that Will Smith still has the option to return. In terms of the movie itself it was a smarter decision.
David Ayer gave Jqi Courtney the best advice for playing Captain boomerang. " Unleash your inner Bogan"(Aussie equivalent of a British Chav or the US Jersey Shore type)
And then james Gunn just killed him
@@Maxwell-gt3ww good, made the movie more unpredictable and created actual stakes, unlike that 2016 abomination.
@@Maxwell-gt3ww Knowing Gunn I am sure he has something for Jai and hopefully Captain Boomer
@@distinguishedallureproduct879 Captain Boomer will just complain about millennials for 2 hours
@@Dr._Mantis_Toboggan_Md. apparently in the original cut of 2016 SS, Diablo survived, which means the only death would've been Slipknot, and the movie wouldn't have lived up to its title at all
Peace Maker feels like that Cena heel turn we never got😂
Oh my sweet summer child, John China already turned heel.
@@johnsnow04 boo hoo
@@johnsnow04 As he said the real...Cena heel turn we never gotten...if the WWE did something like this audience would of loved Cena more
@@distinguishedallureproduct879 And as I said, John Xina already turned heel when he cucked to CCP and China for movie. So as far as I am concerned, he is already a heel.
@@johnsnow04 urgggh get your head out of your ass, other actors do this constantly for Hollywood/Bollywood and others...
My only two complaints are the killings of polka dot man and how fast boomerang died
my only complaint was: Why did amanda waller let them go save harley quinn. she put her on the b team because she's an obvious liability: why did she let them go save her?
Comms were jammed at the time so she probably didn't notice.
@@ChyraLye I thought that was later in the film
I also didn't like the bestiality jokes the thinker made
@@alexskelton4150 *Well that's the point though. You're not supposed to like everything they do because at the end of the day they're villains/messed up people/morally questionable characters.*
@@johnelmartagbago3764 it's not that, i just didn't find it funny. Most of the jokes in the film were tasteless and I loved them, I just thought those references in particular missed the park.
2016 might have been a Suicide Squad, but this is The Suicide Squad. The definitive article you might say.
I fully agree with you on the fact that this was definitely DC best movie. 👌
Besides Shazam?
@@kaymarzo5507 fk of shazam it sucks
@@3266393 “well that’s like your opinion man.”
kinda funny they needed a director from marvel
At this point, there is hardly any competition.
Sebastian is not a CG rat. He's a real one.
"source"?
@@wisconsinking323 can’t give exact source, but I remember seeing somewhere that Sebastian was played by two separate rats, one of which being named “Crisp Ratt”
@@wisconsinking323 just type suicide squad set videos .
@@wisconsinking323 they celebrate Ratcatcher 2 birthday on the set... I saw there that he is real not CG
looks fake for a real rat
I’d also add that Polka-Dot Man had an arc of his own. He sort of faced his childhood trauma. He came out of his dark, reclusive shell and became friends with everyone else. We were shown his true compassion for others when he was the only one that cared when Milton died. And then he ended up becoming a superhero in the end, but got what he wanted at the start: to die.
Before correcting me:
Tom Hardy was originally signed on to the role of Rick Flag in the first Suicide Squad movie.
Which is why I referred to Joel Kinnaman as “NOT Tom Hardy”
I KNOW it’s not Tom Hardy because I have eyes.
Sebastian was played by rats BUT he is VERY OBVIOUSLY CGI in a bunch of shots... including the scenes that require him to wave and hand Bloodsport a leaf.
So... I can correct you... now?
Wait... you have EYES?
Where'd you get them?
I could use a pair of those fuckers...
" Why The Suicide Squad is the BEST DC movie "Says the DC fan 🙄
@@Shatterglass23 ... yes?
Should of said "not robocop"
I kinda hope Viola Davis hears your kind words. She really is great.
I don’t think viola Davis watches vee infuso but I could be wrong lol
I don't know why Viola Davis was so familiar to me. Because she wasn't in anything I remember watching (until I saw her in "Prisoners."), but then I remembered that I simply saw her in the cast list for Ma Rainey's Black Bottom (Chadwick Boseman's last movie.).
Yeah I remember Starro the Conqueror from the Superman animated series of the 1990s. Seeing him briefly in the excellent two-parter The Main Man aka Lobo. Then he was on a Batman Beyond episode. When he had taken control of much older Superman.
He was also on an episode of batman brave and the bold, from what i remember that was an amazing episode
Starro is a badass.
It's also the ultimate antagonist in the Injustice universe.
Wouldn’t it be kinda kick ass if they put lobo in this movie?
@@kaymarzo5507 Yes it would be.
I never thought watching a man whose terrified of rats pet one that sleeping on his leg be the most heart warming thing ive seen this year.
viola davis as Amanda Waller is absolutely perfect casting
Chocolate Starro and the Harley Quinn flavored bath water." Words i Never thought I'd ever have to type...
😂
V. Davis absolutely kills her role. Amazing. The whole movie was awesome. One of my favorite CBM ever!
They should make black deadshot into bloodsport in the "Arkham universe" suicide squad game. That way they can still have the comic accurate deadshot.
That’s not gonna happen. Apparently the black deadshot killed the white one because he was an imposter or some shit? Yeah, a stupid excuse to tokenize a character that was originally white in the arkhamverse.
They killed Boomerang. Best character in the comics. Theory: What if Deadshot got Boomerang and a few out and is making an anti-squad?
That theory has one hole in it....
The fact that Boomer got ninja-blendered into puree...
We saw his body
@@alanbinuraj #releasetheboomercut is this how the internet works?
SAM3 Okay boomer fan.
To counter the “he died” argument…
There is another
Starro is also in Young Justice: Outsiders, where they are explaining Vandal Savage's backstory. He defeats it in the exact same way, by destroying its eye
Thank you for mentioning Viola Davis excellent portrayal of Amanda Waller. She's almost as good as CCH Pounder voicing Waller in Justice League Unlimited.
I knew going in i was probably gonna like this movie more than the first. I just didnt realize how much i was gonna love it and thats the real treat.
I give THE suicide squad 9/10 and the only reason it doesn’t get a perfect ten is because they killed polkadot man
Margot does a really great job as Harley probably a top 5 which is very high praise. Cena usually does very well from an acting perspective
"King shark is a shark."
-King Shark
It feels so good when no name characters give rise and fame to a comic cinematic universe.
you got some stuff wrong:
-first squad didnt die in a "mission gone wrong", they were there to distract the army(also waller knew there was a snich and that they were going to die in an ambush), so that the main squad can get behind enemy lines
-every character in this movie(minus harley/flag/waller) is from the bottom of the comic book world - throwaway character, that is to show us how expendable they all are(suicide squad)
-the big bad villain is not the presidant and when harley kills him, it is to remind us that this chick is crazy/not stable(when she has that monolog after shooting him) also this a reference to the relationship she had with the joker
-the crazy flowers and shit, is a pov of how harley sees the violence and the world
We need to start talking about Viola Davis as Waller being top 5 best cast comic book villains in movie history
If we ever get Suicide Squad 3 I want to see Dead shot vs blood sport that'd just be awesome
Also thank you for the Ryan Johnson shade also ratcatcher II was probably my favorite character in the movie. Also despite not being comics accurate I actually felt like watching a comic book come to life. In a similar way to Alita battle Angel felt like watching a manga come to life and leap from the pages
Or how George Lucas and dave filoni used the clone wars to pop back to the Prequels fix them with the clone wars and due to that making them even better. This is like that
suicide squad 2 u mean ?
right loved that a surprise is great when it works with the story the characters the world and the vibe of the overall movie you are in ..... every one of his choices in star wars did not but hey everyone has an off movie after all knifes out was fantastic.
@@Endlessvoidsutidos I fail to see how the last Jedi doesn’t work as a movie when Rian Johnson literally just followed what The force awakens set up to its conclusion. People act like the Luke stuff just materialized out of thin air as if TFA didn’t already set things up. There is nothing surprising about the last jedi events or things didn’t match with the universe set up, the difference is that many folks still have their image of certain characters stuck in 40 years ago.
@@CaptainPikeachu fair point on the Luke stuff The last jedi did set that up to some degree i was more referring to the other aspects of the movie like continuing to give no information on Rey and hae that pass as character development and killing off Snoke in a scene that was just silly rather than continue to develop him as a character there were many other things I think did not work in the movie like the whole casino planet stuff the stupid slow space chase breaking the rules about what hyperspace actually is and so on but your right its not like he just made up everything out of nothing.
Ratcatcher 2 is my favourite character in the movie as Actress Daniela Melchior nailed the role in her first American movie
i agree with nearly everything you say except for your stance on milton. in my opinion he was one of the funniest characters just by existing he was just there in so many scenes and no one noticed to the point where even when he was in trailers no one said squat
The thing I loved the most was that I was never really sure about what was going to happen next.
Sebastian is best rat!
And king shark is best jaws!
Also this movie gave us the best Harley!
This was all everything we needed from this movie!
Omg that outro was amazing! 😂
Harley: *shoots a classic revolver*

That default character joke you made about Jai Courtney, I made the same joke about Karrion Kross on Raw. 😂
Dear God do I want to apologize for what I said about Karrion Kross. Jeeeesus this get up he’s wearing tonight. 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️
Chocolate Starro and the Harley Quinn flavoured bath water
Will Smith punching the air rn😂 the ONE DC movie he don't do gets good reviews 😂
Glad you gave Pam Grier a reference when talking about Waller. She's a close second. Plus she's a legend. I was also hit hard when Captain Boomerang died. He was my favorite part of the first film. A surprise to me too.
him and rick's death had me in tears i aint afraid to admit it
WB: We have countless comic book titles for a sequel. I got it , we'll call it The Suicide Squad!
Great video Vee as always, I’m a new fan of yours that’s been watching ya videos for the past few days. Love them and decided to subscribe , have a blessed one
Chocolate staro in the Harley Quinn bath water, so this is my first comment ever on CZcams and I got to say I think you're spot-on except I really did appreciate the music choices except for maybe the Kansas song. Matter fact I put this movie on when I'm getting ready for work and just watch it while I'm doing stuff around the house. It kind of reminds me of Kong Skull Island every time I watch it I just appreciate it more but not so much for the special effects of the story but for the characters, this is definitely a character-driven movie and everyone does an amazing job with their characters.
Their chemistry was just so good.

GREAT VID DUDE!
I’m so happy you made this video.. I loved this movie. It was so good. I liked the gore! They wanted a James Gunn movie.. I’m happy they made one
13:37: throughout the movie my mind was wondering this question, was ratcatcher the 2nd taken
Waller is also unequivocally painted as a villain in this and that's important. She'e taking advantage of people and killing them in service of a flawed system, willing to do WHATEVER it takes to complete the mission. A Lawful Neutral character if ever there was one, and she's the worst
im glad Vee understands the sadness of boomerang that i felt
Rat Catcher 2 is the best hands down
I fuckin love her. And hope she's introduced in the Comics. Possibly any DCAU Continuation as well although Timeline wise should be post Return of the Joker flashback.
Yes Daniela Melchior was great in her first none Portuguese role I really hope she comes back in another James Gunn DCEU project because I think he’s the only one who can properly write that character
Polka dot man's death was way more sadder than Superman's death in BVS
This is my favorite DCEU film.
It was amazing. It was goofy, it was gruesome and it was pretty funny. Although I knew about characters like Polka-dot Man, King Shark, and The Thinker, I had never heard about characters like Peacemaker or Bloodsport, and this movie did a fantastic job in making these characters stand out.
I also like DC's recent take on the cinematic universe concept. They exist in the same world, but they don't have to be directly connected to each other, and they can go full-on with separate films. The Suicide Squad wasn't perfect. It still had the 3rd act CG monstrosity problem (although Starro was way better than villains like Doomsday or Ares). But, it showed a ton of potential for future DCEU films.
I thought I would have had to wait till The Batman to get a good DC film, but boy was I wrong. This movie restored my faith in the DCEU.
I hqvent had this much fun watching a movie in a while. I couldnt agree more that this is one of the best comicbook movies and the most accurate comicbook movie of all time.
Dang,i was scared on community post that ur gonna hate it, amazing video
Harley has her own rival, and her name is Punchline, can't wait for her arrival in cinematic Universe
Imo The Dark Knight, Joker and The Suicide Squad are God Tier DC movies. S Tier would probably be Batman Begins, Shazam, Superman 1978 and Batman 1989. A tier would be Snyder's DC movies, except for BvS, and a couple other DC movies.
Superman 1978 is actually GOD tier and the grandfather of all
Not bad list
@@thetwilz9792 yeah i agree. Dk why i put in at S Tier lol.
Good list. Outside of the Snyder cut the dceu was awful.

Can’t wait for the video on the peacemaker show
Your commentaries ARE DOPE AS F
This is one of my favorite DC movies. This and Shazam are my two favorite DC movies.
*Actually both Groot and Baby Groot are some of the most violent characters in the MCU* 🤣🤣
This was a great movie, unlike every Marvel movie, this is rewatchable.
And one if not the best DC movie.
Same IP, mostly the same characters, mostly the same actors...
Having an actual filmmaker instead of a focus group completing a checklist MATTERS.
I can't believe they made an entirely new song for this movie just to put it in a small scene with a car.
I told someone who loved the 2016 suicide squad to watch the new one because if you liked the first one you'll probably most likely love the new one......she said I was gatekeeping and her and her friends yelled at me
There was no Katana D: Who’s gonna have Rick’s back?
You have to do a follow up and show everyone our lil Sebastian
Chocolate Starrow and the Harley Quinn flavored bath water hahahahah that made me day
Thanks for doing this video.
I saw another youtuber yesterday who made a totally asinine video how the movie was bad because he didn't like comic book movies, and thus the movie was bad.
Idk why but it was funny when weasel was drowning and Amanda turned to her staff because she didn’t really do a background research on if he can swim
The only 3 famous starfish I know of is starro, Patrick and the starfish from nemo
While I know for most people the M.V.P. of the movie will either be Poka-Dot Man, Peacemaker, or King Shark, I've got to say, personally, Joel Kinnamin's Rick Flag really stole the whole thing for me! I liked him fine in the first one, but, here, he really felt like the one true hero on the team. What a shame!
Having watched the movie I loved it, it’s not as good as Snyder cut but it is right under it. There are only a few things to fix. Removing the joke of harley slapping javelin. Then adding the staros infecting suicide squad 1 dead bodies to make the fight bigger. And last have pokadot man survive to be a big end fight where he, rat catcher and Harley are the heroes
It's not as good ? Mate, I ain't gonna shit on your opinion, but this film is leaps and bounds better than the snyder cut, everything and I do mean everything is handled much better in this film....

David Dastmalchian also plays a disturbing psychopath in the show HAPPY.
But why did Captain Boomerang and Rick Flagg have to die? 😭
Crazy how WB realized Gunn made the two best dceu projects and immediately just gave him the entire thing
I didn't know the actor who played Boomerang before the movie.. But i think the same, he just nails the character and it was shocking for me that he died in the very first scene of the movie

Rat Catcher 2 and Bloodsport's heart to heart moments are worth the watch
BvS was my favorite DCEU film for the longest time and then The Suicide Squad took the number 1 spot. I Love this movie

I just wanna say before i write this, i have never watched a suicide squad movie.
Ok so the weird guy in a light grey suit with different coloured dots, isn’t he the guy from Gotham that was the leader of the Jerome cult thing?
edit: just got to the part where he got to the Polka dot man now i understand
Sebastian the rat is my favourite character in The suicide squad
I thought the soundtrack worked very well. Especially with “people who died” at the start and “hey” when they walk in the rain towards Jotunheim. “Rain” is also an amazing new song that was written for the movie.
I need to watch it again now.
15:23
The gun Harley Quinn used was a colt 1860 army revolver
I love this movie sm, and personally need more polka dot man in my life
Legit every single reactor I've watched immediately knew what the scene with Harley was, I'm surprised you didn't get the message. Man, such a shame, that was like one of the best scenes in the movie, because it displays her psyche and how she perceives the world. It's not like the flowers were real. Not only was it beautiful and stylistic, but it displays who she is and how she is feeling in that moment, and her views on killing.
Like I just don't understand what people have against visible representation, not everything has to be literal or "real", especially if it's supposed to be a representation of someone's mind, something you, y'know, can't physically see..
This movie has become one of my all-time favourites. I love everything about it
Any thoughts of reviewing Doom Patrol?
Why'd Vee say Tom Hardy when talking about Rick Flagg (Joel Kinneman) just curious.
