  • We know there are many different types of chicken waterers out there, but this one is our favorite. It keeps water from freezing in the winter and from getting hot in the summer. No issues with evaporation or algae growth. You can customize it with as many water cups as needed.

    Best video I've found. You explain it perfectly and I love your quirkiness.

    Like your video. I live desert southwest 106 degrees today. I have been using cooler and water cups for a year. I drop frozen water bottles in cooler to keep water cool for my ladies. I found that I can reduce algae problems by painting lid back, then cover black paint with white paint to reflect heat.. I put screw on end caps, so I can clean PVC tubing yearly with bottle brush.

    Thats cool I might make one..I'm tired of dirty water. Although, if I may...instead of those adapters for the cups, it would be a little better to use 2 separate , 1/2" x ( 1/8"?...or whatever size the cup threads are) Tee...socket x socket x thread
    And just thread the cups right into the Tee's

    Thanks for the diy video. Wanted to share something I didn’t realize when dry fitting my pieces. The female coupler needs to be threaded on one end and non-threaded on the other end for the extender piece of pvc pipe to got into it.
    Made a coupe of these today using a 5-gallon igloo cooler and a smaller 2-gallon igloo cooler. I used the self-filling cups from RentACoop.

      Does it seem you there is any concern about the chemicals in the sealants? Having made a few yourself at this point, does it seem to you there's any chance any of it could leech into the water? I was thinking of doing this and putting warm-ish water in the cooler in the winter and am wondering if I should only use it with cold or room temp water.

    Thank you I used your idea and modified it. I can wait for it to dry so I can try it out😊

      Bird's Eye View can you make the pipe longer and add two more cups? I’d like to have 4

      @@charlierose2104 Simple answer is yes, this is just what we did for us(I'm the hubby). Just double the length of your pipes(for the cups) and space your cups accordingly.

      Nice job on a simple watered. You could even add ice for super hot summer temperatures!

    Just what I was looking for, it's a shame they don't make one like the nipple waterer that I just bought unfortunately my girls don't like it. It just screws in, in replacement of the spigot. Thank you!

    How do you clean out the pvc pipes to make sure you don't get any build up from hard water for example?

    • @birdseyeviewfamily
      @birdseyeviewfamily  Před 3 lety +2

      We have well water and haven't had any clogs. However, you can always unscrew the water cups to clear out any clogs if needed.

    Where do you buy those types of watering cups with the half collar that fits the PVC pipe?

      I am so sorry this reply is so late. Like really late! here's the amazon link to the cup adaptors. The original ones we found are not available, but we bought these later on to make more waterers. www.amazon.com/dp/B00MW5CHWK?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_dt_b_product_details

      Amazon now has cups with PVC t-fittings if you need both the cups and adaptors.

      That was a mistake. I was making 2 separate waterers and I said x2. haha I actually didn't realize what I did until now. geez! hahaha

    How many birds can it take care of?

    • @birdseyeviewfamily

      We currently have flocks of 5 on each one and they last a week in the hot summer and longer in the cooler temps. We’ve had up to 8 and it still lasted a good while. Definitely recommend keeping them in full or partial shade. We have moved since this video and at the old house, in the shade we had no algae issues, now they are in full sun and some algae does grow. Not a big issue with me, but thought I’d mention.

    How does this work in the winter??

    • @birdseyeviewfamily
      @birdseyeviewfamily  Před 2 lety

      We live in north Georgia and don’t have super harsh winters, but we do get down into the teens. So far the water hasn’t frozen over. Not even in the pipes. However, I’m sure that would be different in a colder climate.
