@@gladysshulters7055 You can absolutely make the pvc longer and add multiple cups. I would think you could install nipples as well as long as they can connect to the pvc. I don’t know what their fittings look like since I haven’t used them, but I’ve seen photos of them installed on buckets, so I would assume they should work. 😁

We currently have flocks of 5 on each one and they last a week in the hot summer and longer in the cooler temps. We’ve had up to 8 and it still lasted a good while. Definitely recommend keeping them in full or partial shade. We have moved since this video and at the old house, in the shade we had no algae issues, now they are in full sun and some algae does grow. Not a big issue with me, but thought I’d mention.

@@katiecerda7042 I know this is a year late reply, but someone mentioned they used screw on end caps so they can use a bottle brush to clean out the pvc pipes. Pretty good idea for easy cleaning. I haven’t experienced any mold, but I have seen some algae build up in the coolers that sit in full sun.

They were just eating the algae in the tank. My husband said it's possible you may not have Amanos and could have Ghost Shrimp.

Does it seem you there is any concern about the chemicals in the sealants? Having made a few yourself at this point, does it seem to you there's any chance any of it could leech into the water? I was thinking of doing this and putting warm-ish water in the cooler in the winter and am wondering if I should only use it with cold or room temp water.

Nope, the lids are not super air tight. We do not have any trouble getting the water to flow. 👍

We live in north Georgia and don’t have super harsh winters, but we do get down into the teens. So far the water hasn’t frozen over. Not even in the pipes. However, I’m sure that would be different in a colder climate.

IB4D If I remember correctly, since this was a few years ago, we moved the baby into a small container and placed it where the parents ran off to. We think the parents came back for it since it was gone when we went to check on it.

Phil Rosenkrantz If I remember correctly I just used the needle nose and pulled it out. It was tough, but with a wiggle it came out. We no longer have this vehicle or I’d go try it again. I hope you’re able to work it free!

@@charlierose2104 Simple answer is yes, this is just what we did for us(I'm the hubby). Just double the length of your pipes(for the cups) and space your cups accordingly.

Absolutely! We ended up removing the mulch and laid out all the old roof shingles off our barn we tore down. We then mulched over them and it worked perfectly!

They actually can be bred in captivity :D just need salt water for the larva's as they mature into shrimp in which u slowly acclimate back into freshwater

We’ve been attempting to breed them for some time. We’ve had about a dozen or so survive. They grow great until the 30-60 day mark and then start to die off. It’s like they refuse to morph! It’s frustrating, but there’s not much info out there on breeding them. So, we’re not sure what is stopping them from morphing.

B Melian you’ll be happy to know most of them are still alive and thriving. We have even started to try and raise the eggs that hatch from all the healthy females we have! So far we haven’t had a 100% successful hatch rate, but we have had some live and we are so hopeful to keep trying and reach that 100% rate!!! Thanks for the watch and comment!

Glad you got an idea! You're welcome!! If you're asking the size of the play area I believe it's 24 ft by 32 feet. We've updated it since then. We dismantled our old barn and took all the old shingles from the roof of the barn and spread them all over the ground of the play area and going to mulch over. It's perfect for keeping all weeds and grass from growing up through the mulch. Way better than any garden fabric that's for sure!

I should do an updated video. They have gotten so big! Especially the females. All are happy and healthy! Love these little amazing creatures.

They cleaned that tank so quickly! They seriously are algae eating machines! We tried breeding them and took 3 hatchings to finally have some success. Out of thousands of hatchlings around 20 survived. Not many at all, but we were very excited any survived! We hope to have the proper set up to have a much better success rate! We just love these amazing creatures, as I'm sure you do too! :D

How did you breed them? Don't they need salt water for the babies to live?

Yes, but only until they morph into a shrimp. The eggs are shed in fresh water, when the eggs hatch the larva are transferred to saltwater, they stay there until they morph. The tricky part is making sure the salinity is balanced just right and that they have plenty of phytoplankton to feed on.
